kyruzic··on Let's Settle This
Its a name.
kyruzic··on Let's Settle This
Its a name not a regular word.
kyruzic··on Let's Settle This
You realize you are actually arguing in favour of calling it like jiffy right? Because a direct reading of knife makes it kunifuh, and a direct reading of gif makes it the incorrect pronounciation as well.
kyruzic··on Let's Settle This
People for some reason think that they get to decide how to pronounce a name rather than the creator of the name. Oh well. Its an easy way to determine someone's level of internet knowledge.
kyruzic··on My First Impressions of Web3
You are massively over estimating how much a copy of the entire history of ethereum costs.

You can store the entire blockchain on a 1 tb harddrive.

The cost prohibitive nature is only running an open rpc that you tell hundreds of thousands of people about. Then you will have to deal will letting all those people access that 1tb of data.

Quicknode lets you have a private rpc with the full history of the chain for dollars a month.

kyruzic··on Stanford requires booster shots for all students
Please read what I said, you completely failed to understand. There is no science on the effectiveness of vaccine or booster shot mandates. Or on the long term effects of either.

And why is what the military mandates on people meaningful whatsoever? Review some history on what the military has mandated in the past.

kyruzic··on Stanford requires booster shots for all students
Because as I said, there are other treatments that are effective at treating covid. We can simply use those instead without need for mandates.
kyruzic··on Stanford requires booster shots for all students
This is exactly the problem. You have simply decided science isn't needed because "we don't have time". Covid is not nearly as risky as the government and media has tried to convince everyone it is. The vast vast vast majority of people are at essentially 0 risk to covid.

Eroding the foundations of democracy and modern thought in the repeated failed attempts to prevent the spread of covid is extremely stupid. I really wonder if people like you are even aware of how miserably every single policy aimed at slowing the spread of covid has failed.

1) lockdown to prevent the spread - did nothing, covid spread rapidly the moment the lockdowns ended, and we did nothing to prepare for it during the time of the lockdowns. We didn't build hospitals, we didn't train nurses, we simply wasted money.

2) Masks Mandates - A minor slow of the spread at the cost of erosion of freedoms, you don't have to be an anti masker to realize this, and the production of huge amounts of waste.

3) More Lockdowns - Same thing as first time.

4) Vaccines - We were promised this was the end, but thanks to people who think like you we pushed the idea that we don't need long term studies we can simply trust big pharma to tell the truth.

Remember this: https://www.pfizer.com/news/press-release/press-release-deta..., here they "Vaccine candidate was found to be more than 90% effective in preventing COVID-19 in participants without evidence of prior SARS-CoV-2 infection in the first interim efficacy analysis"

This is simply a lie. There vaccine literally never was 90% effective in the real world, and currently their vaccine actually has negative efficacy in preventing omnicron.

5) Vaccine Mandates - Look around you. They did absolutely nothing. 6) Booster Mandates - ... if you still believe this can work there is nothing that can be said.

kyruzic··on Stanford requires booster shots for all students
I mean your username is probably the biggest problem, and claiming he should be shot is just stupid.
kyruzic··on Stanford requires booster shots for all students
That's completely useless. Vaccines are only useful if they stop or slow the spread. There are plenty of other treatments that are successful at preventing severe illness.

So what does forcing people to get a third vaccine really accomplish? In my opinion two things, further erosion of our freedoms, and huge profits for big pharma.

As I said elsewhere in this thread, the slogan of standford is literally "The wind of freedom blows". This policy does absolutely nothing to further anyone's freedom.

kyruzic··on Stanford requires booster shots for all students
How about we stop presuming things and do some actual science. This is supposedly one of the most prestigious universities in the world throwing out the foundations for modern thought in the name of fear and profits for the greediest companies in the entire world.

Their slogan is literally "the wind of freedom blows". Has the wind stopped blowing?

I live in a Calgary, which has some of the worst winters on Earth. People always gathered during winter. Yea, they didn't do it daily but they did it as often as possible. Precisely because social isolation is literally the worst possible punishment for humans.

Why do you think northern countries all celebrate Christmas?

kyruzic··on Ask HN: Is Web 3.0 just crypto or something more?
Good luck with that. You sure sound smarter than the US and Chinese gov who are both desperate to ban it.
kyruzic··on New York City bans natural gas in new buildings
No they simply don't work either.
kyruzic··on New York City bans natural gas in new buildings
Dude, you're arguing semantics. A drill is still digging up dirt.
kyruzic··on New York City bans natural gas in new buildings
No they would not be. Or they would have been used. Do you guys seriously think you know more than the engineers and city planners that live here?
kyruzic··on New York City bans natural gas in new buildings
I can come up with napkin tier ideas too. But lets leave the city planning to the professionals
kyruzic··on New York City bans natural gas in new buildings
You can cook all your meals using a microwave too. But no one would seriously recommend that to anyone.
kyruzic··on New York City bans natural gas in new buildings
Tens of thousands of houses already exist in the city that are nearly all heated with natural gas. There is not a single economically feasible way to change those houses
kyruzic··on New York City bans natural gas in new buildings
No it is not feasible. You are not digging up ground under then tens of thousands of houses that already exist in the city in any economically feasibly way.
kyruzic··on New York City bans natural gas in new buildings
Houses will never be heated by electricity in the north. Its currently -30 degrees celsius in the Calgary where I live. Its going to be -35 tomorrow. People would literally die if you got your wish.
kyruzic··on Ask HN: Is Web 3.0 just crypto or something more?
Your stock is not hosted on the web.
kyruzic··on Ask HN: Is Web 3.0 just crypto or something more?
The uniswap router.
kyruzic··on Ask HN: Is Web 3.0 just crypto or something more?
Its a marketing term in the same way web 2 is.

That doesn't mean it isn't something new and useful though, just like web 2 was.

kyruzic··on Children develop robust and sustained cross-reactive immunity after Covid
Learning to over come loss is something people have always had to deal with. Forced isolation is not.
kyruzic··on Woke Up to an NFT of Myself
Those items do not have value to anyone except for you.
kyruzic··on Woke Up to an NFT of Myself
No the nft is not the image. That is precisely the point. If the NFT was the image how come I can download, distribute, and even sell (wether legal or not does not matter) the image?
kyruzic··on Woke Up to an NFT of Myself
They only have value if you can find a buyer. Most NFTs that are minted are never resold.
kyruzic··on Woke Up to an NFT of Myself
The language people use around nfts is a big scam. Its not an NFT of this person, its not even an NFT of the picture. Its an NFT that points to an image.

Hackernews loves to hate on crypto, if there is any part that should be hated on its nfts. Because they're a giant worthless scam.

kyruzic··on DeFi risks and the decentralisation illusion
Their entire point about defi not being decentralized is almost entirely false.

Uniswap the company is entirely disconnected from the uniswap router which is what defi really is. The uniswap router is what completes transactions on the blockchain. Not the uniswap website. The uniswap website simply provides a front end for interacting with the uniswap protocol.

You can easily, like less than 100 lines of code, write your own implementation of the uniswap swap functionality. This is why it truly is decentralized. Uniswap the company has no way of preventing you from doing that in their v1, v2, or v3 router.

Further they themselves are not running the router. Anyone who is running an eth node, or miner is running the router. So yes, uniswap has a financial interest in making a commercially successful product. But that product is uniswap.org/app

It is not the smart contract. The smart contract is what makes it decentralized.

Their only argument besides the financial interests of the companies who created the first defi products is claiming that blockchain rewards lead to concentration. Which is the same argument that has been made since bitcoin was first launched, but every single day the likelyhood of any sort of attack related to concentration becomes less likely. As more people start their own mining operations and start hosting their own node.

If someone wanted to centralize the chain they missed their opportunity. Because it is simply not feasible for it to occur at this point.

Like usual, old school economists desire to control crypto markets. But they know they aren't able to and won't ever be able to so they write ill informed articles filled with factually incorrect claims in order to misled policy makers to implement laws to attempt to regulate the industry. Which will also fail.
