kurtoid··on Show HN: A store that generates products from anything you type in search
Relax, I have no interest in testing any of this. I'm just shocked that there's so little room for interpretation

Sorry if I'm acting dense, it's not on purpose. What am I missing?

kurtoid··on Show HN: A store that generates products from anything you type in search
It would have to go before a court. I think it wouldn't be too hard to convince a jury (or judge) that a head-in-a-basket AI art + description is expression (first amendment) and not a threat

Edit: your first link is a genuine threat. the second one is a picture of someone holding a photo-realistic, mangled head. The head-in-a-basket is neither

kurtoid··on Show HN: A store that generates products from anything you type in search
I think a head-in-a-basket image is easily an artistic expression. I've seen worse

They can visit all they like, but what else can they do?
kurtoid··on iPhone OLED supplier BOE to be banned in US for stealing Samsung trade secrets
This sounds like bad news for Framework. The BOE display in my Framework 16 is pretty nice
kurtoid··on Framework Laptop 16
Choice is good, IMO. I've had good experience w/ Nvidia cards with the new open drivers on wayland
kurtoid··on Framework Laptop 16
I just bought a Framework 16 7840HS last week and now it's 7% off. Guess I should have waited a little longer. Glad to see they're committing to upgrades for it, though, so I guess it was still a good investment
kurtoid··on Google will allow only apps from verified developers to be installed on Android
How does this affect installing an APK to an offline device?

Will there be a local override?

kurtoid··on Anubis_offload: Userscript to offload Anubis PoW to native CPU or GPU code
I use the extension linked in the README. I had to patch it to handle a few sites, but it's seamless otherwise
kurtoid··on Vanishing from Hyundai’s data network
good?
kurtoid··on Web fingerprinting is worse than I thought (2023)
If you find the right API endpoint, you can spoof the `Forwarded` header to get different results. Big PII leak IMO but they seem to think it's intended behavior?
kurtoid··on Web fingerprinting is worse than I thought (2023)
tried the form for shits and giggles - 6 days ago and no response yet
kurtoid··on Web fingerprinting is worse than I thought (2023)
Their opt-in doesn't work - go to a few of their customer sites (listed in their blog/success stories) and they make a lot of calls to revenueroll IPs without asking. Some of those call contain PII responses too. Trying to contact them, but they've been brushing me off
kurtoid··on Unsafe and Unpredictable: My Volvo EX90 Experience
I'm shocked that that didn't trigger any kind of warning or alert
kurtoid··on Vector Tiles are deployed on OpenStreetMap.org
Here's how I understand it: Previously, OpenStreetMap's tile endpoints would serve pre-rasterized PNG images, so zooming in on a tile could cause it to get blurry, until your client requests a new, zoomed in tile. Now, they can serve tiles in SVG format, which scale better
kurtoid··on Perplexity Comet
Solve the captcha/scraping problem by scraping directly in the browser. Genius
kurtoid··on How Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) rewrites the rules of search
SEO and it's related fields are a net-negative for the Internet (and maybe humanity in general)

kurtoid··on OpenAI tells judge it would buy Chrome from Google
Oh no - I could see them do something WEI combined with Turnstile
kurtoid··on Windows File Manager (WinFile) repository archived on March 1, 2025
Not continuously. They revived and open-sourced it in 2018
kurtoid··on Ask HN: Is Washington Post correct in saying Signal is unsecure?
I think the "unsecure" is relative - instead of something in-house, locally hosted, and up to the required standards for classified information
kurtoid··on Privacy Pass Authentication for Kagi Search

So I guess you _could_ share them, but only with so many people or so many searches.

Not on devices from verizon, though
kurtoid··on Discord’s advertising push continues

nowtoknow.com has no contact info, and only has a halalboyz link in the about page. It looks like all of their articles are stolen.

kurtoid··on TabBoo – add random jumpscares to websites you're trying to avoid
I suspected something would happen, but I still jumped when I pressed"What is a jumpscare?". Well played.
kurtoid··on What does "supports DRM and may not be fully accessible" mean for SATA SDDs?
Some Garmin Marine units use SD cards for map updates (Bluechart), which also seem to use the S in SD
kurtoid··on Mysterious New Jersey drone sightings prompt call for 'state of emergency'
A _lot_ of hobbyists (me included) disagree with you on this one. I think the current Remote ID law (controversial, yes) is a reasonable balance.
kurtoid··on OpenWrt Community question: What do you want to see in OpenWrt?
Yes. Bought a recent Linksys to replace an extender, which was running OpenWRT. The new Linksys doesn't support OpenWRT (bought it in a hurry), and apparently Linksys doesn't support SMB[0] if the device is extending another network, which is BS since we were able to with the OpenWRT device.

kurtoid··on Senators say TSA's facial recognition program is out of control
My 2c: I use precheck, and fly regularly between RDU and PBI. Opting out of the 3d face camera has always been easy, and I never had pushback from them. PBI has well placed opt-out signs, but I hadn't see them at RDU.

I expect that one day it won't be optional, but I'll avoid it while I can
