kul_··on JRuby 9000 released
So why does JRuby never got as much traction as other jvm langs like clojure, scala, groovy? I have heard good things about the ruby syntax, top that you get unparalleled powers of jvm like gc, cross platform, libs and much more!
kul_··on How I became an artist
I wonder, is art only about education? I used to be pretty good at sketching in general, But i feel i do not have the imagination to create such wildly out of the world landscapes. Is there a way to learn how to imagine? Or would one say art isnt for everyone?
kul_··on Unreal Engine 4 shots that are unbelievably realistic
Thats not very convincing, I am sure setting fire to zombies would be fun!
kul_··on Unreal Engine 4 shots that are unbelievably realistic
I have never seen very realistic fire in any games! Is there a substantial challenge in fire simulation vs say water?
kul_··on Clojure 1.7 is now available
Yes this is something clojure users take for granted. I dont know the state of Scala right now but a year back even minor version bump was horrible in scala in terms of backward compatibility. Really impressive job by clojure code devs in terms of maintaining such stable releases.
kul_··on Rust for Clojurists
clojurelings
kul_··on What Is Code?
What a cpu and memory hog that page is!
kul_··on Zero Downtime with HAProxy
Does nginx has the same problem of "small time window" downtime? I was guessing reloading would be more gracefully handled by having a single process binding on http/s ports and child processes which contact upstream servers. That way there is no "small time window" while reloading.
kul_··on Myntra, India's largest fashion and apparel e-commerce portal to go mobile only
hurmm I really dont understand this, How much it would cost for these multimillion dollar companies to maintain a desktop version!?

To my limited knowledge this is only an effort on client side as the apis to interact on server would be the same be it desktop or mobile.

kul_··on Death of a Programmer, Life of a Farmer
You my friend may just save an otherwise wasted life! Let me know if you are hiring, I guess i would be really good in picking cow dung and grazing cattles.
kul_··on Seastar: C++ framework for high-performance servers
Seems like, http problem needs to reframed as C1B(illion) now!
kul_··on Ask HN: Where do you aim to be 30 years from now?
the way things are currently going for me. To be practical i still see myself struggling for living and housing. Hope that changes.
kul_··on What makes the ankle exo so effective is its simplicity
another nice example of `less is more`.
kul_··on Show HN: Opinionated Dress Color Simulation

Great! But what about lein?
kul_··on Help HN, lets make GitHub accessible again from India
Github is accessible with ACT also.
kul_··on Object Oriented Programming is Inherently Harmful
I really find Carmack and Armstrong's quotes very appropriate. The root problem seems to be trying to do eveything the OO way when all you need is a function. Java for e.g. is plagued by this problem. Why would I want to write a class/object when all i need is print "Hello World". That being said there are problem where it fits really nicely e.g. Implementing user roles.
kul_··on Ex-Googlers CockroachDB: A Scalable, Geo-Replicated, Transactional Datastore
awful name!
kul_··on ClojureScript, Lisp's Revenge [video]
you can break hygiene in clojure macros using classical anaphoric macros. I guess that holds for clourescript as well.
kul_··on New Google lab working on quantum computing hardware
Hey no more log(N) for me plz!
kul_··on HTTPS Support Launching Now
Thanks guys for the great work!
kul_··on TimL – Clojure like language which compiles down to VimL

kul_··on TimL – Clojure like language which compiles down to VimL
Can this be used to develop plugins for vim? I would love to see someone come up with a plugin in TimL or port one to it!
kul_··on Nokia announces the X and X+, its first Android phones

kul_··on HTTP 2.0: GTFO (General Termination of Future Operations)

kul_··on Indian Startup Little Eye Labs Confirms Acquisition By Facebook, Deal $10-$15M
big dreams with little eyes :D
kul_··on $200,000 to the first person to break Telegram
Although i have limited knowledge of crypto, but the algorithm seems pretty similar to what is used in SSL with key exchange via DH and encryption via AES. Although i notice that instead of a server clients are doing key creation and exchange which is why Telegram may be calling the architecture 'decentralized'. What is new here, how is it Telegram's own encryption method? Just having a ssl like client to client security model is what is being coined as MTProto?
kul_··on Scala – 1 Star – Would Not Program Again
If nothing, at least i completely agree with complete disregard to compatibility point. Be it Scala itself or driving frameworks like Play.
