A company that claimed to have built a general-purpose quantum computer, which would speed up a lot of computationally-intensive tasks, may have actually built a weaker device that does something called quantum annealing, which allows it to solve only a subset of problems - those that involve finding the lowest value state in a field of lots of values.

Furthermore, it doesn't look like the device solves those problems any faster than well-optimized code running on normal computers. Which cost about 10k times less.

I would like to have this accident plz.

You haven't spent much time in newsrooms, have you.

But there are still a pile of references to South Korea! The Juche approach to garbage collection sucks.

No, Alan Horn's in charge of Disney Studios, which includes Pixar, Disney's regular animation division, and live-action movies.

Check out the image on their corporate site, it looks like Lucas is worried about his cat being held hostage to force him to sign: http://thewaltdisneycompany.com/

Wot, no hash check?

Currently wasting time trying to get Crowd to work with eDirectory.

Google for 4, drawn on 1. I like that the blurb at the end was all "whatever, we're still better says a survey". Marketing failure ahoy!

We're getting ready to deploy Varnish in (non-devops) work. Not having control over production and having the potential for C inline in the config was already making me a bit nervous. This thread is not helping!

At what stage is "I found my smartphone using location services" no longer a newsworthy story? I need to know to set my hibernation chamber correctly.
