ksjskskskkk··on Ask HN: How do you balance parenting with your career?
of course it will impact your careers. you're partaking in a privilege above your class so it will have hefty costs to keep society in an equilibrium.

you should reflect why being away for the entire day is not already seen as the heavy cost, but just not doing overtime is now a privilege to few. but instead you have internalized the oppression and feel good just by not being crushed under two jobs or something more time consuming than "just" full time jobs for both parents.

ksjskskskkk··on Ask HN: What has quantum computing achieved so far?
it got people to finally move away from RSA.

besides that, it's mostly quackery by pretending code to impossible low temperature calibration and sensors don't exist.

ksjskskskkk··on Jenni AI: Dropout Builds $30M Startup While Fighting Cancer [video]
this crap sent me a flood of spam email. it's so scamy i even doubt the cancer story.
ksjskskskkk··on Malware abuses Google OAuth endpoint to 'revive' cookies, hijack accounts
loging in serves as giving them authorization to track you under jurisdiction where they cannot just track you by any means available
ksjskskskkk··on Ask HN: Is it acceptable to use a date as a primary key for a table in Postgres?
how is a date unique?
ksjskskskkk··on Classwind: Ultra-fast 331B JS utility for dynamic class names
js devs keep devolving. a library for a single array.join! what's this? the next ltrim()?
ksjskskskkk··on Beep Beep
so much apple apologism.

so, beeper (multi IM client) is the bad guy because they charge $2 to offer an aggregation service.

but apple is the good guy because they keep f@+$#@ the competition in detriment of what their $1200 per year device clients want to do with said devices?

oh yeah daringfireball, let's jail those criminal beeper founders!

ksjskskskkk··on [dead]
wow, Americans still have a knee jerk reaction to hinting at communism by describing land use policies in almost all non European and non central Asia cultures? or just by hinting at inheritance tax.

it's extra funny because the guy who probably inherited nothing is arguing against the tax with the guy who is likely a trust fund baby. this is comedy gold.

ksjskskskkk··on OsmAPP – A Universal OpenStreetMap App
it's todays number one attack vector.

people who disable js (very few in this early adopter crowd) then allowlist sites to have js but no webgl.

it's something better left for games or to increment visuals. basing your ui on it like doing js only sites in 2023

ksjskskskkk··on First Look at the Hardware of Oxide Computer's Server [video]
the review we just watched made it pretty clear you cannot even power the boxes outside the rack...

so its a truly onprem cloud... as in you don't have access to almost anything but your compute payload.

i was expecting more like a sane-modular system for your own it team. not just someone to phone in their support as needed. we already have tons of companies like that.

had high hopes but seem they are just unify for data centers :( (hopefully they don't copy the ageism tiktok ads too)

ksjskskskkk··on Are EU banks just mass surveillance devices?
how much money you have on that account? my guess is that you're a poor customer they're harassing.
ksjskskskkk··on Are EU banks just mass surveillance devices?
"banks are annoying asking me questions, so i will just pay a $1000 fee per transaction and publish every single transaction i make in the open under a pen name that i hope nobody notices is me"

good luck buddy

webgl :/
ksjskskskkk··on Mozilla 2023 annual report: CEO pay skyrockets, Firefox market share nosedives
for one: not giving in to every google whim.

recent examples: address bar becomes search bar. referrer header always sent cross domain with full url. webextensions3. hundreds of apis that only benefit ad "viewability" detectors. removal of websocket permission (like you have for notification etc). etc

soon: adding Floc

ksjskskskkk··on Mozilla 2023 annual report: CEO pay skyrockets, Firefox market share nosedives
mozillian usually means mamagers. unless they are really old timers.
ksjskskskkk··on Little File Explorer – File Manager for Android 1.0 and above
app store code signing is no different than a mirror having a private ssl keys for the domain you are downloading from

or a closed source including a gpl3 Library in its packaging.

both have nothing with the license and are a common FUD argument by people who do not like the implied freedoms of the gpl when arguing for more permissively comercial licenses, so apologize if i wrongly mistook you for the more probable case.

ksjskskskkk··on Little File Explorer – File Manager for Android 1.0 and above
what are you even talking about? linked page makes no mention to any gpl3 consideration. and i don't see how distribution peculiarities have anything to do with the license.

are you just attempting a low effort gpl3 FUD or are you honestly confused at something concrete that you failed to describe?

ksjskskskkk··on Neocities – Developers API
that's technically a title change.

real world systems might have to change actual ids. like the article. or say you grow to some other use case not covered before because of new regulation etc... 301 is the only rest way.

ksjskskskkk··on Neocities – Developers API
how do you deal with id changes/renames in actual rest?
ksjskskskkk··on Reforming Unix

capros. keykos is so 1980.

i miss when osnews was still decent.

ksjskskskkk··on Ask HN: How do I train a custom LLM/ChatGPT on my own documents in Dec 2023?
RAG: having a LLM spew search queries for you because your search foo is worse than a chat bot alucinations.

or because you want to charge your client the "ai fee".

or because your indexing is so bad you hide it from your user and blame the llm assistant dept.

ksjskskskkk··on Marketer sparks panic with claims it uses smart devices to eavesdrop on people
> The company added that it does not "listen to any conversations or have access to anything beyond a third-party aggregated, anonymized and fully encrypted data set that can be used for ad placement

so, a resounding Yes.

it's so tiring how little people understand about the current advertising ecosystems. even an article about one point get that point wrong

ksjskskskkk··on Can AI replace Captcha click farms?
can? it's the only feature which is actually cost effective. all other uses are only happening because compute is heavily subsided for now
ksjskskskkk··on Twitter violated contract by failing to pay millions in bonuses, judge rules
almost everyone i know in work law agrees the only chance Twitter had was to move this under tx. despite the contraction and most time of work and place of verbal promises being all in CA.

being denied the forum change argument or the dismissal under tx is pretty much a defeat as it will go

ksjskskskkk··on YAML, Python and the Holy Graal
makefiles are awesome but misunderstood and widely abused.
ksjskskskkk··on Ask HN: Best modern file transfer/synchronization protocol?
why parellization matters if you are sending from/to points you control? that's usually from one machine's ssd to another's.
