krysp··on The health benefits of better air
I'd be very interested in this, please email me your PayPal!
krysp··on Get Started with Tmux
Very similar to tmuxinator, but in python:

https://github.com/tmux-python/tmuxp

I use this one as I found it easier to set up, and a bit more intuitive to script. Also if you use python rather than ruby, it's easier to understand!

krysp··on UK 'heading towards digital skills shortage disaster'
Can't argue that being a self employed cleaner would be lower stress. What's your friend charging and what kind of work does she do? I only have limited experience with paying cleaners in the uk, but she must be charging more than those I've seen.
krysp··on Vim Clutch – A hardware pedal for improved text editing (2012)
The best remap in my vimrc:

" Map jk to ESC in insert mode

inoremap jk <esc>

Once you've finished what you wanted to insert just hit jk. The combination never occurs in the English language and is right on the home row :)

krysp··on Okta to Acquire Auth0 for $6.5B
On the point about AWS, there are settings in your account to prevent that happening - whoever is managing it may have set the log out time a bit low.
krysp··on A 10-second video clip sold for $6.6M
Strangely, I can reproducibly crash my phone by playing the video on this link. It goes into a "lockdown" loop and eventually reboots to recovery mode with a warning about data loss. (Pixel 3, Firefox mobile, Android 11 with latest patch)
krysp··on Perseverance Rover lands on Mars [video]
Awesome achievement! What was the part of the mission you were most concerned about / most likely to go wrong?
krysp··on OO in Python is mostly pointless
SQLAlchemy is really special - coming from Django I wasn't convinced initially, but I think the reason it works so well is it doesn't try to hide any magic. It's simply a nice way to represent objects in your database, you still have to explicitly request it to commit / run queries.
krysp··on Split keyboards and how to build them
If it makes you feel any better, I have the Kensington with four buttons. I never use the extra two for anything - probably because, like most people in the comments, I'm trying to stay away from the mouse. Two buttons is plenty!
krysp··on Show HN: I built an online interactive course that helps you learn Vim faster
If you setup your dotfiles correctly, your vim environment should be accessible with a simple `git pull`.

The plugins are very worth it, there's no need to handicap yourself locally just so your environment matches some bare bones server config.

And regardless, the basic vim motions are always there - you don't lose much when just editing some config files on a server even if you have to use vanilla vim

krysp··on Local rules instead of global censorship
Seems like you and everyone in the replies to your comment may have misconstrued what the parent meant; if he's from Europe, socialist isn't a dirty word like the US. In most of Europe it's quite a positive thing to say your government is more socialist, or has more socialist policies
krysp··on Why is life expectancy in the US lower than in other rich countries?
That depends on the cause of death. If a "lethal encounter with police after speeding" is gunshot wound whilst being detained, a Bugatti veyron might allow you to avoid that outcome. No police vehicle could keep up, unless they brought in air support.

Also, the police are less likely to violently arrest you if you're driving a supercar, I'd wager

krysp··on Universal Basic Income is Capitalism 2.0
Your argument rests on the assumption that poor people consume a set of goods completely distinct from middle income and wealthy people. If the price of a loaf of bread increases by 200% in an attempt to take advantage of increased purchasing power, why would the wealthier consumers accept this, if their income had not increased? Competition would put an end to rent seeking behaviour.

And on the subject of low income housing, it's often highly regulated, and can't be hiked arbitrarily.

If I've understood correctly, your argument is that the inflation in the basket of goods consumed by low income people exactly cancels out the increased purchasing power, I'm not sure you can argue that's definitely the case.

krysp··on Ask HN: Programs that saved you 100 hours?
Fzf. Fuzzy completion is a godsend for working in the terminal, remembering commands is a thing of the past.

As a nice bonus there is also a wonderful vim plugin :)

krysp··on Merry Christmas HN
Merry Christmas to everyone on the best and most informative forum of ideas I've found on the internet - and here's to everyone's 2020!!
krysp··on Mast Brothers: $10 a bar for crappy hipster chocolate (2015)
Quite honestly thought that video was a joke until the final cut
krysp··on What Does a Coder Do If They Can't Type?
That really does sound like a better combination! Never done system remappings on OSX, how did you go about it?
krysp··on The Hacker News Habit
I never use the true HN site other than for comments now, the hckrnews.com interface is just so good!
krysp··on Go deeper, not wider
This is especially relevant in tech. I feel a lot of language hype and framework churn is due to this obsession with whatever is newest and most shiny.
krysp··on Simple React Patterns
I suppose it isn't really a GUI but it does manage them.
