Not if they can’t prove the ROI vs other ad channels. They will just move spend from Twitter to better performing platforms, or even into other marketing or sales activities entirely. For most brands, Twitter isn’t the sole place they can target their audience.

Watch him turn it into an OnlyFans clone... seems like the only viable subscription model to earn enough to stay afloat, porn. If he implemented AI Porn features, could earn more. With patrion/substack style subscription features for the non-porn content too, maybe it works?
kristintynski··on The Twitter Advertiser Exodus
Those teams help grow revenue. The more help they give, the more the advertiser is likely to increase their spend. They do a lot of heavy lifting to help educate ad teams about about new ad products and software changes.

They had figured it out to the extent that there was moderation. I’m not saying the old approach was the right one, but brands need to understand what will and won’t show up next to their ads. Right now, could be almost anything.
kristintynski··on The Twitter Advertiser Exodus
Yeah, but isn’t the issue a long term problem now? If he is committed to little/no moderation, when would things change in a direction that would bring advertisers back?

If he wants a free speech free for all ala 4chan, he’s going to have to find an entirely new way to monetize that doesn’t rely on ads.

kristintynski··on The Twitter Advertiser Exodus
The damage of a screenshot of the ads next to horrible shit going viral. Many brands probably also have concerns about potential subconscious impacts of the association, even if they would be hard to measure.

Brand teams at big companies, especially those in regulated industries, are incredibly risk averse. With Twitter typically being a small minority in a marketing mix, there’s a quickly diminishing benefit to sticking it out.

Add in a buggy ad platform that can steal your money? Lol nope.

kristintynski··on The Twitter Advertiser Exodus
Also, many larger companies advertise on Twitter simply to cover all their bases. If Twitter becomes an advertising pariah, higher ups are going to be asking the marketing team to justify staying. Given the mediocre ROI of Twitter ads in general, I think we will see many marketing heads err on the side of caution and recommend pausing until things get better.
kristintynski··on The Twitter Advertiser Exodus
Look at who advertises on 4chan. Elon is taking the platform that direction. That’s who will be all that’s left if he doesn’t figure out content moderation and get his ads team and software fixed ASAP.
kristintynski··on The Twitter Advertiser Exodus
I run a PR agency and in my experience, the bigger the brand, the more conservative they are. Many have dedicated brand teams who care only about how the brand is portrayed. Multiple independent departments would likely be weighing in on the issue. Unless Twitter was an enormously successful marketing channel for the business (it almost never is), why risk it?
kristintynski··on The Twitter Advertiser Exodus
This is so damning. Twitter always had mediocre ROI as an ad platform in my experience. Now it is literally becoming dangerous for your business. Imagine a 10-100k per day ad campaign from years ago being made live by buggy software and not realizing it...

Being in the professional closet sucks, I'm over it. AMA if you are curious about my experiences as a trans woman in the professional world, especially as an entrepreneur.

kristintynski··on I accidentally started a movement – Policing the Police by scraping court data
Nothing about PDAP is web3, or crypto based, though some community members have suggested it (especially last year among all the Web3 hype.) Turning into a web3 company is not happening.
kristintynski··on I accidentally started a movement – Policing the Police by scraping court data
PDAP is not crypto based, and there are no plans to make it so. The message you pasted here was about a meeting taken last year with someone who was proposing this. It isn't something the community or leadership was interested in. PDAP is a non-profit, not a crypto startup.
kristintynski··on I accidentally started a movement – Policing the Police by scraping court data
The community has been writing scrapers since the beginning, but it's a huge task. We've also written scraper templates, since many counties use the same systems. https://github.com/Police-Data-Accessibility-Project/PDAP-Sc...

You can find the roadmap, goals, and a lot of detail on the organizational structure and the scrapers that have been written so far are here https://docs.pdap.io/activities/our-process and here https://github.com/Police-Data-Accessibility-Project
kristintynski··on How and Where Migrants Die Trying to Cross the Border
Migrant death data is relatively hard to pin down, and is spread across a number of different datasets. Some government, some by NGOs. To better understand the scope of the tragedy, I put together a few map visualizations based on data aggregated from The Missing Migrants Project and combined it with data from the Arizona OpenGIS initiative for Deceased Migrants. While this isn't fully comprehensive, it does give a visual understanding of the scope of this tragedy over the last few years. I was particularly shocked by the prevalence of Drowning while crossing the Rio Grande. Absolutely horrible.

If anyone knows of additional reputable datasets for migrant deaths, I'd love to improve the thoroughness of these visualizations. It's frustrating this data isn't as transparent or centralized as it should be.

kristintynski··on Hating What They Love – Search Data Analysis of Republican Trans Porn Obsession
As a trans woman myself and most trans women I know, have been at the receiving end of self-hating men attracted to us. They are often the most vocal when it comes to condemning us. Most frequently they have been religious or politically conservative.

I wanted to see how prevalent this was, so I took a look at Google Trends data, and investigated if there was a correlation between political stance and trans porn search volume. I found that there does seem to be a correlation. This is that investigation.

kristintynski··on 1.7M Lead Containing Consumer Products Sold Since 2010. 89% Were Made in China
The Boyscout Neckerchief Slide one is particularly unnerving. I can just imagine thousands of Boy Scouts munching on those toxic things. Brands with missions ostensibly to do good for children, end up poisoning them with lead...

The term 3x'd this year in popularity, I took a look at popularity by DMA by scraping daily data from Google Trends.
kristintynski··on AI Imagines – War Torn NYC
Used Midjourney and Laoin 400m for these. My goal was to see how these images made me feel. I'm curious if AI could be used in this way to create empathy, though perhaps images like this stoke more fear? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
kristintynski··on DeepMind’s New Language Model, Chinchilla
It seems like internal language (thinking in language) is also a way our brains train themselves too? I’ve probably thought 100x more words than I’ve spoken.
kristintynski··on Digital Advertising in 2022
Content distribution through paid channels can definitely work well, especially if what you are running ads on are earned media placements talking about you/your content. Gated content can work exceptionally well if it is valuable enough, and not just an obvious attempt to grab contact info.
kristintynski··on Digital Advertising in 2022
Speaking as an agency owner, I've seen a massive shift of marketing budgets away from advertising and into content marketing. Adding value through content has always been the most predictable, sustainable way to build inbound customer acquisition.

Businesses are now realizing the ROI of paid channels continues to diminish (if it was ever really there at all given how fake many of the reported metrics seem to be). Instead they are finally understanding that their role isnt to shove marketing messages down peoples throats, but instead to earn their attention via the value their content can add to existing needs.

Content + PR will become the defacto way most companies market themselves, where PR is just multi-channel distribution of the content being created by the brand.

kristintynski··on Cryptocurrency scams cost owners $7.7B in 2021, driven by DeFi-based “rug pulls”
Memecoins can at least be tracked in value, the dynamics of these UGC meme driven communities, especially ones like doge, shiba uni, and now dogebonk, the exponential community growth effects are what matter most.
kristintynski··on Cryptocurrency scams cost owners $7.7B in 2021, driven by DeFi-based “rug pulls”
Dogebonk is a good example of a community taking over a token, renouncing contract, locking liq etc. fascinating to see a true community meme engine revving up.
