krishna2··on Steve Jobs Resigns as CEO of Apple
I think the biggest thing is that everyone in Apple has a question they can ask themselves, "What would Steve Jobs do?". And if they can honestly answer the question and take decisions based on that, Apple with its lead and its teams and its products will stay ahead for a while to come.
krishna2··on Steve Jobs Resigns as CEO of Apple
Very highly.
krishna2··on Steve Jobs Resigns as CEO of Apple
Hm...but the salesman was able to do his job year after year only because of the awesome products. Rule #1 of marketing: Start with a gread product.
krishna2··on Steve Jobs Resigns as CEO of Apple
I am wrong. It is still trading after-hours. It's down about 6%. http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=aapl
krishna2··on Steve Jobs Resigns as CEO of Apple
Probably also the reason why the book is scheduled to be released sooner? [come on, which author ever beats a writing-deadline by 3+ months?]
krishna2··on Steve Jobs Resigns as CEO of Apple
Hmm..the time to do that would've been earlier today (before trading closed). If you do tomorrow, the pre-trading hours, the floor traders (and options traders and hence probably the institutional clients) would've an advantage of half-an-hour before us retail investors. So the opening price itself will be low enough. From then on, it would just be the crowd/herd movement. As Buffet said, "the stock market is a popularity voting contest in the short term, but a weighing machine in the long term".
krishna2··on Steve Jobs Resigns as CEO of Apple
In the short term, probably yes. But maybe folks have been putting that "discount factor" all along since January. But they have a pretty solid line up ahead (iphone5, sprint-iphone, ipad3, a new product line... and lots of others to come). Plus the iphone/ipad revenues are still growing - so that will only get better in the next few quarters. Very likely, AAPL the stock will move on higher.
krishna2··on Steve Jobs Resigns as CEO of Apple
After hours trading is over too. http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=aapl The best indicator will probably be pre-trading-hours tomorrow.

I assume you meant "Tim Cook" (the COO).
krishna2··on Learn Perl in about 2 hours 30 minutes
You can also go into the debug shell (which is REPL) by giving it some valid statement: Here is an example:

shell> perl -de 1

This will take you into the perl debug shell (after evaluating the string "1" which is true).

krishna2··on Ask HN: So, is "search" really that hard?
By Anna Patterson, "Why Writing Your Own Search Engine Is Hard": http://queue.acm.org/detail.cfm?id=988407
krishna2··on Chromebooks on sale at Amazon for $349
Imagine you have a chromebook, and imagine Google deleted your account, now do you have a very expensive paper-weight? (or is there some salvation?). I see some opportunity for two ideas: 1. insurance against the event that a company will delete your account. 2. a backup-for-orig-company.com (browser plug-in? desktop-background-app?), that backs up (and keeps track of) everything you do with company X - so you can retrieve it all someday if the need be.
krishna2··on Apple Reports Third Quarter Results
There is no rule that subsequent quarter revenue should be higher than the prior quarter. [For e.g. the holiday quarter is generally the highest revenue yielding one for consumer electronics companies]. That said, Apple generally sets the expectations way low. The street knows that. They figure out a higher number (based on the past) and make that their expectation and price the stock as such. The interesting thing though is that Apple has been beating that higher expectation as well.

krishna2··on Amazon: Ponzi Scheme or Wal-Mart of the Web? (2000)
For every one amazon.com, there is a list of webvan.com, pets.com...etc.

krishna2··on Fat, Lipoproteins, Cholestrol - very well explained
If you are hacking your exercise routine, dieting/eating patterns, health...etc. Understand the basics and you will go further than if you didn't. Did you check out some of the essays ? Extremely relevant to the today's top killers (heart attack, cancer, stroke, obesity, diabetes...etc).

krishna2··on LNKD IPO opens huge at $83
Options are available for trading only after a certain number of days (generally 60 to 90 days, but in some cases much earlier than that).
krishna2··on Skip Flash, Build Animations in HTML5 With Hype (YC W11)
If it is going to be an annoying animation that is getting in the way of getting things done, I will skip it or the site, no matter what it is built in.

Frankly, I don't miss the Flash animations - 30 seconds of nonsense I have to click through before I get to see the real deal. Thank god for FlashBlock. Now I wonder if this will make folks say "ah, so you have flashblock, eh ? how about this ? html5 animations ftw...". Hopefully this will be put to more good use.

krishna2··on Google fires employee who leaked memo on raises
Hmm..If only Yahoo had followed (or would follow) such a procedure!

[there used to be confidential VP-only meetings and information and that would also somehow end up on blogs..imagine that].

krishna2··on Google web api dead, Bing the sole survivor...
Damn, of the two search engines left, half of them don't provide an api. :)

At Blekko, we are planning to provide search apis very soon. Stay tuned.

krishna2··on Ask HN: Who Is Hiring? (November 2010 Edition)
Blekko is hiring. We launched today. And there is lots and lots of interesting stuff to do here. Full time software engineering positions. We are located in Redwood Shores, CA.

krishna2··on Ask HN: What to do when co-workers don't aspire beyond getting their paychecks?
It is only fitting that edw519 has now been member of HN for 1337 days! <wink>
krishna2··on Ask HN: Job opportunity in SF - Which Visa should I go for?
To work, I think the only option is H1-B (unless there is a trade-agreement like NAFTA for Canadians). But I think a Bachelor's degree is required. Do a quick check with an immigration web site. Good luck.
krishna2··on Find Big Mail: Have you run out of space for your Gmail account?
Well, even long ago, a lot thought 640KB ought to be enough for everybody. ;)

[although mis-attributed - but nevertheless makes a good joke].

krishna2··on Refreshing Firefox search bar
So bing gets twice the publicity as others now (since it also serves up results for yahoo!). I say unfair!!! :)
krishna2··on Facebook Granted Patent Covering Location-Based Social Networks And Checkins
All I can think of is a missed opportunity at a clever(er) title. Something involving "check in" and "check out".

My simple attempt: "Check in companies, check out the check in patent"
