Just click the "save" button in your browser - the file gets saved as a .html.
krishna2··on Announcing Pyston: an upcoming, JIT-based Python implementation
Guido works at Dropbox. I am sure he is advising - and I bet, he has seen pretty much all the previous attempts closely to let them make any obvious mistakes.
krishna2··on Ask HN: Has Google/Bing won the search engine war?
Have you tried blekko.com ? The slashtags feature specifically does what you are describing here.

Of course, using this method will not get you data from sites that explicitly ban crawling (like yelp.com).

Disclaimer: I used to work at blekko and I implemented the slashtags feature.

Why not gzip the csv file? It drops to about 7MB instead of the original 75MB.

Yes, I am planning to go Ubuntu as well.
krishna2··on BeagleBone Black: A 1-GHz computer for $45
Got mine couple of days back and here are a few tips:

- The default OS version had some issues that I was not able to ssh into the board. Once I downloaded and loaded the latest version available on the site, I was able to ssh as root.

- I was not able to connect serially (from my mac). Turns out that the FTDI driver they provide is 32 bit but (my) Mac needs a 64 bit. So you have to install the 32 bit, save the Info.plist, then install the 64 bit and copy it back and chmod permissions correctly.

- While trying to do a "opkg upgrade", be careful. Mine got into some issues installing a downloaded version half way through the process. But this also somehow broke the network connection. So no more updates. I almost thought I bricked my board. But I was able to again use my SD (from the previous downloaded latest version) to the rescue and bring it back to life again.

krishna2··on Introducing the New Yahoo Mail
Slightly off topic, the name ycorpblog sounds fugly. They have one of the biggest, most renowned internet brands - why not just blog.yahoo.com ?
krishna2··on SmartAsset, the Financial Calculator Killer
I wrote a very simple/basic calculator when I was shopping around for a home. FWIW, here it is: http://krishna2.com/test/fastloancalc.fcgi?term=30&rate=...

Disclaimer: I work at blekko and I developed the webgrep tool. Was curious to see how many links to YC there were.
krishna2··on The Anatomy Of Search Technology: Blekko’s NoSQL Database
This is the same technology that is used by the webgrepper tool [http://blekko.com/webgrep] (a grep for the web pages' sources).

Disclaimer: I work at blekko and I developed the webgrepper.

As a side note, we have used this for various other purposes - some fun ones being, store a big music collection (to extract meta data via mapjob), citizenship test q&a (to pick random questions), the 'joke of the day' (of course, this is our "hello world" example internally to new employees) ..etc.

krishna2··on Introducing Google Drive... yes, really
What a nice opportunity that Microsoft squandered - they should've stuck out with the 25GB free option (Like they had for existing users) - that would make today's announcement so little. Marketing win and perception win! (just like what gmail did back in April 2004). After all, their data did show that less than 1% of users cross 7GB - so they should've trusted that and went along with it.

Also, it would now makes sense for Dropbox to go even bigger - as in build their own data center, storage network ..etc (ala crashplan..etc). Being on top of s3 would allow one to be only as cheap as s3 can be.

krishna2··on Steve Jobs has passed away.
R.I.P Steve Jobs. Thank you for Super Breakout (game) and everything else!

And that's how I got inspired to get into computer science, learn programming, to build games like that or do cool stuff with computers.

krishna2··on Amazon Unveils $199 Kindle Fire Tablet
"Amazon won't steal Apple's customers"

- Absolutely correct. But all the other android tablet makers pricing their tablet anything over $300 will all get screwed by this for sure. [I cannot see what else they can do to justify double the price of the Fire without some brilliant ideas and innovations.]. They all refuse to do anything to the software. They also cannot match Apple's (and probably soon Amazon's) scale and huge volumes to get a good price on bulk-hardware. Nor do they have the "content" and "user base with credit cards" to match that of Apple and Amazon.

Good news is that we can expect more HP-touchpad like fire sales. Bad news is very few are going to want those even at those prices.

Amazon brilliantly played to their strengths. Kudos to Jeff Bezos and team!

krishna2··on Amazon Unveils $199 Kindle Fire Tablet
"school district can give those to every student"

How cool would that be! My library finally got the overdrive support so I wanted to check out an e-book (an audiobook) to try out on my kindle/iphone. And found a nice book that I wanted to read and the page says, "available copies : 0, library copies : 1, No. of patrons in waiting list : 23, Click here to add yourself to the waiting list".

File this under w.t.f.

krishna2··on Introducing Amazon Silk
Well, as the networks/devices get faster, the web pages will get bigger and load more javascript than every before. We have already seen how the html/js/css growth has been since early 2000s. If not for that, all those pages with 10 years of growth of network/devices speeds, we should've blazing fast web right now!
krishna2··on Daring Fireball: Amazon's New Kindles
I agree. I also think that the damage is going to be more for current-android-tablet makers, such as Samsung, Acer, Asus, Viewsonic ..etc. More so to the ones who price their tablets above $400. Everyone's going to compare them to the Fire and say, "Why even consider anything when I can get this for half the price?".

Pretty safe to say, Amazon's tablet is going to beat all the other android-tablets.

krishna2··on Daring Fireball: Amazon's New Kindles
From another daring-fireball article:

Q: How many times does the word “Android” appear on Amazon’s Kindle Fire page?

A: Once, in the following sentence: “Additional email apps are available in our Amazon Appstore for Android.” It’s a Kindle tablet, not an Android tablet.

krishna2··on Oh Good Grep Web Grepper: A New Web Intelligence Feature From Blekko
Agreed, If you know the exact js file or code snippet that kissmetrics requires - then it would be an even better grep. Wanna take a stab?

krishna2··on Oh Good Grep Web Grepper: A New Web Intelligence Feature From Blekko
We do plan to eventually support regexes but slowly introduce them with limited-support and not jump head-first with PCRE. Of course, this is only within the scope of webgrepper that I am talking about.

krishna2··on Oh Good Grep Web Grepper: A New Web Intelligence Feature From Blekko
It is on-demand. And no. of votes is not a pre-requisite (it is however helpful though). However, we do have want to keep an eye out on the number of grep-jobs we can run a day without affecting other services' performance. You should submit your grep!

Surprised that no one has yet mentioned EOPL ("Essentials of Programming Languages"). An awesome book imho.
krishna2··on Steve Jobs Resigns as CEO of Apple
So much for the AAPL is going to tank and time to short comments. The change is a blip....
krishna2··on Steve Jobs Resigns as Apple CEO (Official Letter)
I think the biggest thing is that everyone in Apple has a question they can ask themselves, "What would Steve Jobs do?". And if they can honestly answer the question and take decisions based on that, Apple with its lead and its teams and its products will stay ahead for a while to come.
