kreutz··on Uber and Lyft shutdown in California averted as judge grants emergency stay
They can find work elsewhere then?
kreutz··on Uber and Lyft shutdown in California averted as judge grants emergency stay
I don't think the job market being garbage is Ubers problem to solve. If the job market was flourishing drivers would still be "unhappy" with their experience on these platforms and AB5 would likely still be a thing. Uber offers a convenience. I think drivers like that convenience so much so that it prevents them from seeking traditional employment and leads them to want to fit a square peg into a round hole.
kreutz··on Uber and Lyft shutdown in California averted as judge grants emergency stay
Why not let the market decide? If drivers are so unhappy why not just seek some alternative form of work? Uber/Lyft do not force anyone to hop online.

kreutz··on Hard Lessons Breathe New Life Into Retail Stores
They buy online because of the difficulty surrounding getting it home - with that problem fixed I imagine the Amazon showroom problem is no longer a problem.

kreutz··on My Mom’s Suicide Was Preventable
"The so-called ‘psychotically depressed’ person who tries to kill herself doesn’t do so out of quote ‘hopelessness’ or any abstract conviction that life’s assets and debits do not square. And surely not because death seems suddenly appealing. The person in whom Its invisible agony reaches a certain unendurable level will kill herself the same way a trapped person will eventually jump from the window of a burning high-rise. Make no mistake about people who leap from burning windows. Their terror of falling from a great height is still just as great as it would be for you or me standing speculatively at the same window just checking out the view; i.e. the fear of falling remains a constant. The variable here is the other terror, the fire’s flames: when the flames get close enough, falling to death becomes the slightly less terrible of two terrors. It’s not desiring the fall; it’s terror of the flames. And yet nobody down on the sidewalk, looking up and yelling ‘Don’t!’ and ‘Hang on!’, can understand the jump. Not really. You’d have to have personally been trapped and felt flames to really understand a terror way beyond falling." -David Foster Wallace

kreutz··on If You’ve Met Aliens While on DMT, These Scientists Would Like to Hear from You
The book A Demon Haunted World: Science as a candle in the dark by Carl Sagan goes in depth as to the origin of peoples propensity to believe that they have indeed encountered such creatures. I would highly recommend reading it.

kreutz··on Porn is not the worst thing on Musical.ly
This is a ridiculous opinion. The amount and vastness of content and the ease at which it is accessible have increased 1000x maybe more. Never in the history of the world never have children been so connected to topics, content, and strangers (that no doubt play a role in their mental development) as they are now.
kreutz··on [dead]
Which strains are you referring to? Your claims are completely unsubstantiated and anecdotal. The same thing could be said for alcohol and nicotine. The death rates for those substances are much higher and will continue be higher.

kreutz··on Convoy raises $62M from Bill Gates and other luminaries to transform trucking
I was under the impression YC Continuity existed for the sake of investing in later stage YC companies. Convoy is not YC company. Is YC Continuity just a generic fund now?

kreutz··on How Technology Hijacks People’s Minds
This is not specific to technology and can essentially be traced back to capitalism for every industry. Businesses have nothing to gain by making product decisions around "will this help the customers well being". If it does not help them sell more, do more, make more it does not matter. All consumer facing companies apps, games, food, travel they are all gamified to grow the business regardless of whether there is a government agency to influence them. I'm all for making product and business decisions around these ideas but these psychological tricks have been applied to consumers for decades long before the Internet.
