kozak··on Plover is a free, open-source stenography engine
How relevant is stenography today, now that we have ubiquitous voice recording and voice recognition? What are the use cases? I'm genuinely curious.
kozak··on Reply of the Zaporozhian Cossacks
Looks like we have perfect nicknames for commenting under this post.

kozak··on A from-scratch tour of Bitcoin in Python
I'm amazed that he has time for this kind of hobby work.
kozak··on You can legally get and run WordPerfect for free
Releasing a freeware last version when a product is discontinued is a great practice that I wholeheartedly support (and I do this myself wherever possible).
kozak··on OpenHD - HD video, UAV telemetry, audio, and RC control
Interestingly, this technology can do 110ms glass to glass for video on generic hardware, but even "gaming" Bluetooth headphones (among those that don't require a special dongle) still cannot achieve 110ms of sound latency from software to speaker.
kozak··on Tesla Q1 2021 Results
When you say "in their driveway", you are already excluding everyone who doesn't have a driveway. I can recall maybe two or three people I know who have their own driveways.
kozak··on A curated list of JavaScript tooling not written in JavaScript
What might be the reason to care about that?
kozak··on Neighbour manages to pollute the 2.4 ghz spectrum with his 120 IoT devices
I chuckle when Americans say that their "5 over 1" buildings "all look the same". This is nowhere near the level of sameness that I'm accustomed to see here in Eastern Europe. To my eye, these buildings look very distinct from each other.
kozak··on Women's Pockets are Inferior (2018)
I'm buying the same brand and model of jeans for the last 10 years. Recently I put on an old pair and found that my modern mobile phone doesn't fit in its pocket.
kozak··on Early-Retirement Update
But who will be cleaning toilets in the castle?
kozak··on Vitalik escalates ETH 2.0 merge as miners plan a 51% attack
Reminds me this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schism#/media/File:Christianit...
kozak··on I bought 300 emoji domain names from Kazakhstan and built an email service
By the way, we already have an "emoji button" on our keyboards: on Windows, it's the Win+. keystroke. Try it if your Windows 10 is updated enough.
kozak··on We created a fake language to root out resume liars
"Mova" is a cool name for a programming language. This word means "language" in Ukrainian.
kozak··on Bitcoin Is Time
If you liked this article, you will probably also enjoy "Mysteries of Modern Physics: Time" by Sean Carroll (I listened to it as an audiobook, I don't know what other formats it is available in).
kozak··on Lyra audio codec enables high-quality voice calls at 3 kbps bitrate
Is LE Audio going to change this to better?
kozak··on Watching an HDD do its work through a plexiglas cover
I would happily buy such a drive (if it was new and factory made).
kozak··on Launch HN: Zaraz (YC W20) – Use third-party tools without slowing your website
"Zaraz" means "now" in Ukrainian. Awesome name to my Ukrainian ear!
kozak··on Reinventing the Python Logo: Interview with a UI Designer
Looks good to my Ukrainian eyes!
kozak··on ECC matters
I'm about to write some code that will allocate a random buffer, take a checksum of it, and just sit on the buffer, periodically checksuming it again until a bit flips. Or maybe even allocate a buffer of zeros and wait until a non-zero appears in it.
kozak··on I Forced Myself to Wake Up at 5 A.M. Every Day for a Month
As I'm lucky to have a flexible schedule, I aim to wake up early, but not earlier than sunrise (sunrise is 7:36 where I live today, for example). Thus my early-wakeup ambitions are higher in summer and lower during winter.
kozak··on Tony Hsieh has died
It's 2020, people talk a lot about self-driving cars and travelling to Mars, and yet such terrible preventable tragedies still happen even in successfull countries to successful people. So sad.
kozak··on The cost of fixed-line broadband in 206 countries
"CIS" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commonwealth_of_Independent_St...) does not equal "Former USSR". Ukraine is not (and has neven been) a member of CIS. If you want to say "former USSR", just say "former USSR". Don't try to use "CIS" as a kind of a euphemism for "former USSR", this is simply a different thing with a different meaning.

Sorry for the rant, but I think someone will find it useful.

kozak··on The Nintendo Switch uses my open source code
I'm more surprised that it uses Node.js in the first place!
kozak··on Boeing 737 Max Is Cleared by FAA to Resume Flights
I would be 100% comfortable flying the MAX if they either added a third AoA sensor or removed MCAS altogether (introducing a new type). They did neither.
kozak··on Ask HN: I'm building a video editor for Windows, what features do you need?
Support 60.00 Hz based frame rates and not just 59.97, and don't forget about 50 Hz as well. Think thoroughly about conversion between all of them when mixed source footage is used.
kozak··on Museum of Obsolete Media
The coolest one is https://obsoletemedia.org/jacquard-loom-card/
kozak··on Why Does the U.S. Have Three Electrical Grids?
I like the minimalistic explanation that it's because two phases are not enough and four phases are too many.
kozak··on Dash Charging vs. Quick Charging
Dash Charging = Tesla Supercharger, same idea?
kozak··on Facebook account banned after linking Oculus account
I got so excited by the news about Quest 2, I was certain would by it, until I learned that "Quest headsets best accommodate IPDs between 56 and 70 mm, or about 95% of adults". My IPD is 74 - no luck this time.
