kookamamie··on Cursor 1.0
Hah ok. I then just happened to try it out during their feature rollout.
kookamamie··on Cursor 1.0
Pro does not support Claude Code, the agent. The docs say it does, but it wouldn't work yesterday when I actually tried it.
kookamamie··on Show HN: I made a 3D SVG Renderer that projects textures without rasterization
Why use SVG for this, though? This could be easily implemented as pure JS software rasterizer without all the tessellation workarounds.
kookamamie··on Cursor 1.0
You can subcribe to the Max with 90€ a month, which isn't bad considering the effectiveness of Claude Code.
kookamamie··on Cursor 1.0
This here, exactly. Cursor is late to the party with their IDE-based approach, especially after the MS-blocked extension fiasco.
kookamamie··on Show HN: I wrote a Java decompiler in pure C language
Yes, perhaps it could have a marketing slogan like "Write once, crash everywhere!"
kookamamie··on Sid Meier's Pirates – In-depth (2017)
Funnily enough, the girl looks almost like a mirrored-and-modified copy of the protagonist.
kookamamie··on Snake on a Globe
A missed opportunity naming this SnekTrek.
kookamamie··on RenderFormer: Neural rendering of triangle meshes with global illumination
Yes, the typical AI stuff is visible in the examples, which are surely cherry-picked to a degree.
kookamamie··on RenderFormer: Neural rendering of triangle meshes with global illumination
Yeah, but barely reaching PSNR 30 sounds like it "compresses" a lot of detail, too.
kookamamie··on RenderFormer: Neural rendering of triangle meshes with global illumination
Looks ok, albeit blurry. Would have been nice to see comparison of render-time between the neural and classical renderers.
kookamamie··on Superauthenticity: Computer Game Aspect Ratios
(in ancient systems)
kookamamie··on Compiling a neural net to C for a speedup
> 1,744x speedup

Is that 1744x or 1.7x?

kookamamie··on The Myth of Developer Obsolescence
> The most valuable skill in software isn't writing code, it's architecting systems.

And the most valuable skill in defending a stance is moving goal posts.

kookamamie··on Lossless video compression using Bloom filters
Sure you do. E.g. ffv1 and huffyuv are used for archiving video losslessly.
kookamamie··on Devstral
Not quite, but I do have an Ada 6000, which has 48GB.
kookamamie··on OpenAI to buy AI startup from Jony Ive
So, basically a Palantir?
kookamamie··on OpenAI to buy AI startup from Jony Ive
Altman ain't no Jobs, though.
kookamamie··on Watching AI drive Microsoft employees insane
Many here don't seem to get it.

The AI agent/programmer corpo push is not about the capabilities and whether they match human or not. It's about being able to externalize a majority of one's workforce without having a lot of people on permanent payroll.

Think in terms of an infinitely scalable bunch of consultants you can hire and dismiss at your will - they never argue against your "vision", either.

kookamamie··on Deep Learning Is Applied Topology
To a man with only a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
kookamamie··on Deep Learning Is Applied Topology
> This has been enough to get us to AGI.1

Hard disagree.

kookamamie··on GitHub Copilot Coding Agent
Yes, so it seems.
kookamamie··on GitHub Copilot Coding Agent
Which GitHub subscription level is required for the agent?

I found it very confusing - we have GH Business, with Copilot active. Could not find a way to upgrade our Copilot to the level required by the agent.

I tried using my personal Copilot for the purpose of trialing the agent - again, a no-go, as my Copilot is "managed" by the organization I'm part of.

Also, you will want to add more control over to who can assign things to Copilot Agent - just having write access to the repository is a poor descriminator, I think.

kookamamie··on Palette lighting tricks on the Nintendo 64
We did similar palette-based lighting techniques in our shareware game in the 90s. Basically, arranging the VGA 256-color palette so that each color we supported would have a gradient of N shades of the color. Illumination within each color could then be easily altered by adding or subtracting color indices.
kookamamie··on Show HN: Real-Time Gaussian Splatting
[flagged]
kookamamie··on What is HDR, anyway?
HDR, not "HDR", is the biggest leap in gaming visuals made in the last 10 years, I think.

Sure, you need a good HDR-capable display and a native HDR-game (or RTX HDR), but the results are pretty awesome.

kookamamie··on AlphaEvolve: A Gemini-powered coding agent for designing advanced algorithms
As a tar, please.
kookamamie··on On thinkers and doers (2022)
Cookie Policy cannot be accepted on mobile. Chrome/iOS.
kookamamie··on Void: Open-source Cursor alternative
Nobody uses Theia, relatively speaking.
kookamamie··on Zed: High-performance AI Code Editor
I don't think that argument holds very well.

It supports extensions for languages such as Java and seemingly that extension can build code, too.

Zed also contains Git-support out of the box, which sounds pretty much like a lightweight IDE.
