I find Diary to be completely unnecessary and was paid for by the diary industry.
knowitnone3··on Oral microbiome sequencing after taking probiotics
interesting and well written article. I would imagine what you eat, amount of saliva, dental hygiene, and a lot of other variables would affect your oral microbiome. what would be a better test is for people with "red complex" bacteria to take this and see the results. the fact that it didn't colonize tells me this is pretty much useless like most probiotics https://medicine.tufts.edu/news-events/news/are-probiotics-a... the author concluded that they will use it again only because of the taste, not because it works.

knowitnone3··on C Is Best (2025)
who is this that you are claiming is "positioning" itself??? the Rust maintainers? No. Programmers are choosing to write something in Rust and it just so happens they are interested in rewriting something that already exists because they can. You write as if Rust is an entity that chose to position itself. What is your argument here? Rust should just go do something else? You wouldn't dare say that about Python. Also, how dare you put these languages in a corner. I've use ruby for many things other than Rails. JS is much more than a browser language now, and python is much more than data science and AI. Go is much more than Kubernetes/cloud/net servers.

if you don't think programming languages can get outdated then why is assembly, fortran, lisp, smalltalk, pascal, basic practically disappeared? programming languages are not like math, it's like the moon
knowitnone3··on Employee commits suicide after MongoDB fired her during mental health leave
so you'll take janitorial after your SWE job? if yes, the go for it but what happens you become disgruntled because you're no longer getting paid the same? You think it wise to keep a disgruntled employee?
knowitnone3··on Employee commits suicide after MongoDB fired her during mental health leave
"right before a mass layoff to avoid paying her severance" if that was the case, wouldn't they have done that for everybody in order to avoid severance pay? Also , according to the Labor Board, "There is no requirement in the FLSA for severance pay. Severance pay is a matter of agreement between an employer and an employee (or the employee's representative)." So if they didn't want to pay a severance, they didn't have to. Her parents failed her more than anybody and they are only trying to turn her into a paycheck.

they are worst than ads. Onedrive runs automatically and all of a sudden, your files under Documents are all stored by Microsoft without you even knowing.
knowitnone3··on Linux is good now
so you're saying you'd have to download some obscure software just to remove defaults from the OS and that's a plus? The fact that you even know about such software tells me you've already gone thru steps to neuter Microsoft.
knowitnone3··on 50% of U.S. vinyl buyers don't own a record player
if they don't play it, what do they do with it - toss it under the bed? If people wanted to pay artists, a t-shirt is way more practical or just send them money.
knowitnone3··on What you need to know before touching a video file
You should make up your own mind. why bother reading comments at all? why bother reading reviews? I bet you watch every movie and never comment on how good or bad they are because you'll be telling everybody else what to do and that would be hypocritical. I wonder how you stumbled upon VLC in the first place - perhaps you read about it somewhere and followed that advice?
knowitnone3··on What you need to know before touching a video file
the author never talked about power savings or cooling bills, they talked about quality so they are still correct.
knowitnone3··on What you need to know before touching a video file
VLC has left me hanging many times. It's play a file wrong or not played at all while mpv plays it no problem. Do not use vlc.

knowitnone3··on OrangePi 6 Plus Review
the high end of the performance is impressive and this has idle power similar to the processors in it's performance range(AMD Ryzen 7 4800H idles at 45W). This is certainly not meant for lower power computing.

you keep insinuating PRC yet you don't realize you're already pwned just running their hardware no matter the OS.

name one pure communist country that has thrived. China has 516 billionaires.
knowitnone3··on AI will make our children stupid
Our children are already stupid and have been for a while. Watch Jay Leno asking questions on the streets or Veritasium asking the scale of the universe[1]. Looking at the setting, this was asked on a college campus! Then, colleges are having to teach remedial math because college students even can't do basic math[2]. 1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fG8SwAFQFuU 2. https://nypost.com/2025/04/05/opinion/harvard-univ-the-ivy-l...
knowitnone3··on Firefox will have an option to disable all AI features
I don't know. What if the AI can remove all junk from the page, clean it up, and only leave the content - sort of like ublock origin on steroids?
knowitnone3··on Linux computer designed with AI boots on first attempt
So computers should be much less expensive then? Fewer engineers needed should mean much lower cost computers...Right? RIGHT?
knowitnone3··on Thousands of U.S. farmers have Parkinson's. They blame a deadly pesticide
These farmers reap the benefits using pesticides and then sue so they get double pay. They knew what they were getting. Who would have thunk chemicals cause disease. And who do the consumers sue having eaten all this pesticide laden produce for all these years?

knowitnone3··on Roomba maker goes bankrupt, Chinese owner emerges
how hard is this to understand. you have a roving camera/microphone in your house and you think that is OK?
knowitnone3··on Roomba maker goes bankrupt, Chinese owner emerges
American companies can be held accountable and we've seen many companies getting sued. Try holding a Chinese company accountable.
