knlam··on Why my projects keep failing
The only advice I can give op is to find another person to help marketing/grow stuff.

I also fell into the trap of making products without thinking about sale/marketing (or I thought I could do it myself). Turn out the mindset of the creator and the mindset of the hustler is widely different. I am sure many others out there can do both, but it is better for me and OP to accept that as fact and find a cofounder. You will be surprise how changing the narrative can change how customers perceive your product.

knlam··on Goodbye CSS Modules, Hello TailwindCSS
Don't use tailwind for your design system(that is a very bad choice). You can find all the argument here

https://sancho.dev/blog/tailwind-and-design-systems/

What I find work for me is using tailwind in addition to css modules. All the utility class with css scoping

knlam··on Building apps in minutes, not months
Honestly if you frame it that way, the framework is very well done. OP, if you can read this, this is the way to market your product.

From the developer perspective, I would not call this production ready also

knlam··on Ask HN: How has GraphQL panned out for your organization?
I have been using graphql since 2019 and it has been great for me. Overall if you have a big team, it is much more easier to manage. The graphql ecosystem is growing and tooling are standadized (nowadays the N+1 can be easily solved)

But one thing will always remain and you have to remember is that graphql is slow by design. If performance is critical to you, don't use it

knlam··on On Depression and Founders
> "There's no one else who can fix it but you"

True, I have failed 2 startups (and on my way making the 3rd one). Finding inner peace is what held you together. After some struggling time after my 2nd failure, it get better for me.

One trick I told myself is that realizing the failure last time is the lowest point in my life, and eventually the dots will connected

knlam··on I’m now in charge of Audacity [video]
I would like to say thank you to all the contributors of Audacity. Thanks to your work, we have a treasure like Audacity
knlam··on The joys of creating Xcode project files
> You know, I really wish this file was XML instead.

Enough said. Xcode is the worst devtool I ever used

knlam··on Super Resolution
Well, I can't. I didn't choose to use this shitty software, my company is using it. Even if I make a statement to replace it with something better, my clients are still using it. I hate it with the passion, but it is hard(impossible) to change habit of others
knlam··on Why I don't like Tailwind CSS
Look, I don't like Tailwind as much as author but I think author make several weak points about tailwind weakness (apart from the hard to read part). Here is the better argument about why you should not use tailwind:

knlam··on Can't uninstall Adobe apps without an account (2018)
The adobe apps acted like malware. Open your TaskManager(Activity Monitor on Mac) to see how much craps run on your computer when you installed Creative Cloud.
knlam··on API pagination design
Cursor based pagination and offset base pagination are two different approach for different purpose (hence not interchangable).

Cursor based is good when you know exactly where the next page go (Eg: chat message when you want to load previous messages). Offset based is good when you want to browse data randomly (Eg: you want to go to page 10 when you are in page 1)

knlam··on Why not use GraphQL?
Compare to REST, GraphQL have many advantages. However, IMO the tooling is still not there yet (Especially the caching, batching/data loaders are PITA).

One of the biggest selling point rarely come up is that you get the API docs for free through the playground. No more Swagger bad API

knlam··on Wirecard CEO exits as search for missing billions hits dead end in Asia
Sorry for my ignorance, according to the source, Wirecard hired KPMG last year to conduct an independent audit to address allegations by FT.

Why would anyone who run the fraud hired an auditor to expose their fraud? Do they think they can get away with it? Why not just ignore the allegations?

knlam··on How to Kill a Startup Idea with Google Keyword Planner and AdWords: A Case Study
at face value, this seems plausible. However, the dating dynamic is unique among other marketplace ideas. Case in point, tinder is profitable (whenever people find their soulmate through it, tinder loses customers)
knlam··on How to fight back against Google AMP as a web user and a web developer
This should be higher. By googling, you are using way more data because of AMP pages, that is big minus especially if you are on mobile plan

knlam··on Airbnb Is Moving Faster at Scale with GraphQL and Apollo
Actually you can directly read and write the cache with the readQuery command. You can see it here https://www.apollographql.com/docs/react/advanced/caching.ht...
knlam··on How Sketch Took on Adobe
Recently I had to use XD because the designer use said tool for their design and oh boy I can assure you no developer want to touch anything adobe related. Just to use XD, I had to install so many craps from Adobe in my Mac.

I can't wait to finish this job and purge my Mac

knlam··on The Discord Store Beta
This is an interesting move. Mark my words, Valve will acquire Discord soon
knlam··on Show HN: Paired – Connect nearby people and share knowledges
Hi guys, I am a creator of this app. It is built with react-native & grapqhl, so if anyone has questions regarding about the technology choice, feel free to ask me

Actually, this is my first app ever, so I think it's not optimized, there are probably bugs and missing features. Would love to hear feedback and suggestions from the community

knlam··on How to GraphQL – A Fullstack Tutorial for GraphQL
I am sorry but you are using Graphql the wrong way, it should be stressed that GraphQL never and never could replace your SQL(it is a wrapper around your SQL backend)
knlam··on Ask HN: Do we still need native apps?
Yes. I build apps/website for a living so here is my thought: PWA is still very early and buggy as hell. I try to ship PWA version of my website and it did not work well under many circumstances

I also build a React-native app. Although the experience is absolute amazing, it is a little bit laggy compare to other native app (and beautiful animation is a pain)

So yes, for now we still need native apps
