According to Inc., "Norway has more entrepreneurs per capita than the United States":

(Disclosure: I am indeed Norwegian.)
I think the more interesting question is how to create the next Google or Facebook outside the US.
It's true that large heaps (multiple GBs) can cause long GC pause times (which is one of the problems Azul tried to solve). This can be mitigated by simply running more cache servers with smaller heaps.
Repeat this key combo to fetch the last argument from further back in your command history.
I use this all the time (almost as much as tab completion).

If you pay to use a webapp, do you "own" it? Maybe they're trying to make 37signals' "apps" seem more like App store apps.

Seriously, Google is one of the big backers of Java and OpenJDK. By suing Google, Oracle risk losing contributors like Josh Bloch and Martin Buchholz. I mean, they've already skipped out on JavaOne.
1) 46 weeks with 100% pay
or
2) 56 weeks with 80% pay
This is capped at ~ $70 K, but in practice many employers pay people on leave their normal salary (or 80% if you choose the longer leave period).
Cmd-<, Cmd->: switch windows Cmd-': zoom (the green 'maximize' button on windows)
I just use Spotlight for launching (Cmd-space).
Oh, and set caps lock as ctrl. MacOS supports this out of the box, unlike Windows.

Ie. apps that only use the Java system libraries don't have to be GPL'ed, only modifications of the VM itself. Google didn't want to place this restriction on Android vendors.
For server-side web applications, VMs (and the JVM in particular) already won. Sorry. They've made industrial strength GC, JIT and multi-threading features for the mass market.
As for phones, I really doubt whether Android's use of a VM will have anything to do with its success. There are many factors which will be much more important, like fragmentation.
What's great about JavaZone is they can actually be different from your run-of-the-mill vendor conference.
Oh, and there actually are some women in there too.
Now let's hope the OpenJDK patches will be accepted and merged back upstream.
