kingkool68··on Ask HN: To people who own smart assistants, how often do you use it?
Totally. I'm not the bad guy but the alarm is. Putting on the cleanup song helps cleaning up go faster.
kingkool68··on Ask HN: To people who own smart assistants, how often do you use it?
I use my Google Home mini and Home Hub every day to ask for the weather and set timers to alert the kids that it's bed time. We use them to play songs and my 4 year old asks Google questions about Spanish words every other day. They're neat to have around.
kingkool68··on HTML Periodic Table
Missing the <xmp> element. I know it's depreciated but it is still supported in every browser according to https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Element/xm...

It comes in handy for debugging.

kingkool68··on Ask HN: How do you organize everything you want to do?
Now that GitHub has private repos for free accounts I use issues + ZenHub as a kanban board to organize things. This helps me get the ideas out of my head and organized in one place that I can search and filter and group into milestones.

I use the same tools at the day job so why not my personal stuff too!

kingkool68··on Ask HN: How did you decide what problems to solve in your lifetime?
I ask my wife.
kingkool68··on Ask HN: Going from Developer to Manager. What should I know or learn?
Shouldn't it be called “What’s NOT working Wednesday”?
kingkool68··on Show HN: I made a script to generate self-signed SSL certs for local development
There are certainly many ways to do this.
kingkool68··on Show HN: I made a script to generate self-signed SSL certs for local development
Nice! I dig it.
kingkool68··on Show HN: I made a script to generate self-signed SSL certs for local development
Yours is a much more robust solution that I wish I had found before writing my own. But at least I got a better understanding with how all of this stuff works.

I've added a link to your project in my README.md file.

kingkool68··on Building Your Own CDN for Fun and Profit
I was using KeyCDN until I discovered bunnyCDN at $0.01/GB.
kingkool68··on Show HN: HardyPress – Use WordPress as a static site generator
I scratched my own itch and made a plugin that enables you to put your entire WordPress site behind a CDN and manages intelligently flushing the cache.

kingkool68··on Show HN: HardyPress – Use WordPress as a static site generator
You could just put a CDN in front of WordPress and presto change-o your site is static.
kingkool68··on A good resource for financial advice to share with people in their twenties?
This book really opened my eyes to the importance of savings. Really glad I picked it up when I was 18.
kingkool68··on DevDocs API Documentation
Spoke too soon. There is a way via Flashlight --> https://github.com/w0lfschild/Flashlight But there is a problem with the dependency mySIMBL and High Sierra --> https://github.com/w0lfschild/mySIMBL/issues/62
kingkool68··on DevDocs API Documentation
I really wish I could integrate this into macOS' spotlight
kingkool68··on Ask HN: What non-work task have you automated?
One of the best life hacks I found is to buy those stackable laundry baskets and sort them as you wear them instead of dumping them all in one and sorting right before doing laundry.
kingkool68··on Ask HN: What non-work task have you automated?
I have an app called Sweet Home (free) on my Android phone and my wife's Android phone to backup photos videos to our NAS. From there they get backed up off-site to Backblaze so we will always have a copy of our photos each day.
kingkool68··on Ask HN: What non-work task have you automated?
1) I've built a WordPress site to archive and backup my tweets https://tweets.kingkool68.com it fetches new tweets every 15 minutes. Source code at https://github.com/kingkool68/wordpress-twitter-backerupper

2) Whenever I post to Instagram I have a script that automatically posts it to Twitter including the image directly in the tweet like this https://twitter.com/kingkool68/status/916853781911838721

kingkool68··on CSS in JavaScript is like replacing a broken screwdriver with your favorite hammer
Couldn't agree more. I finished some refacotring of a CSS done with the DRY mantra and there were so many hidden gotchas. When I changed one thing it would end up breaking a number of unrelated things.

kingkool68··on Using Immutable Caching to Speed Up the Web
What's the difference between Cache-Control: Immutable and setting expires headers really far in to the future?
kingkool68··on Ask HN: What simple tools or products are you most proud of making?
About 1K pageviews a month it looks like
kingkool68··on Ask HN: What simple tools or products are you most proud of making?
I don't pay attention to it and I can't for the life of me figure out how much it earns monthly but there is over $800 in my account. My hunch is $10-$15 a month or so.

I just moved it to a cheaper hosting plan so it's actually turning a minuscule profit now.

kingkool68··on PageAccelerator – A very light solution to load web pages faster
I love this technique. It's how I built this image gallery for my daughter's website https://www.zadieheimlich.com/easter-2016/

Didn't use PageAccelerator or Instantclick or Turbolinks. It's just jQuery. Here is the source https://github.com/kingkool68/zadieheimlich/blob/master/js/p...

I like this way over a client-side JavaScript framework app approach because... 1) It fails gracefully if JavaScript is unavailable 2) I can keep most of the logic on the server side since the JavaScript is only fetching an HTML page and parsing for content 3) It's fast :)

kingkool68··on Show HN: Mobi.css – A lightweight, flexible CSS framework that focuses on mobile
Responsive design is the norm so I guess the answer to your question is "all the code together"
