This would be great for on-boarding tutorials, troubleshooting, etc..
If you could add text bubbles (similar to Youtube) that would be superb :)
Since this will be a side-project (and your time is limited), try automating as many aspects of the business from the beginning. I am not implying that you should BUILD automation into the onboarding process, but use services like Zapier to make your life a bit easier.
1) Keep the blood pumping - Ensure you have enough money in the bank to sustain the business as you grow or until you raise.
2) Attract top talent - Create a story so that you attract top employees who are willing to make your business succeed.
3) Shared Vision - Make sure each employee knows the overall objectives of the company so that they can execute without your direct oversight.
1) Yes, "Hardware Engineering" is a very broad term. You'll have multiple levels of Hardware Engineers all working on different aspects of a design. However, this isn't much different from Frontend + Backend (and their associated languages).
3) Multiple parties working on one device, remotely, is possible (see: http://www.protoexchange.com - shameless plug). We've worked with multiple engineers on a single hardware device. The hard-part is that the debugging typically requires each party to have the same piece of hardware physically available.
It would be interesting to chat more about OSHW if available :)
Github (same-sided platform): publish your repo, users can download and contribute to your code. More code, more branches, repeat.
Youtube (two-sided platform): Published content provides entertainment. Users can respond to others video to provide additional relevant content. Each publisher promotes their own channel for recognition (and in turn, promotes your platform).
I'd recommend reading: http://platformed.info/ The author really dives into Platforms vs Marketplaces and how to increase your chances for success. It's the only blog I've ever subscribed to.
Side-project: A/B Testing tool that compares metrics between two completely different websites!
Affiliated as they are my friends and have a solid team
