kfinley··on Facebook's legal team bans developer of F.B. Purity from Facebook
"...Facebook is blocking direct links to my site and libeling me by claiming the site is “Spammy and Unsafe...”. Does anyone else see a problem with this, or is this justified? It feels like Facebook has crossed a line from guardian to censor.
kfinley··on We're Better At Design, And That's Not Good
I, could, agree with that. I must have misinterpreted the article; I read it as good design has become the new baseline, so it can no longer be used as an indicator of quality.
kfinley··on We're Better At Design, And That's Not Good
As a visual person I'm fine with this. I would gladly trade a little bit of insight for a better living environment. Think if someone where to say "There are too many beautiful women in this world, we can't accurately judge their personalities"
kfinley··on Who is DDOSing GitHub and why?

Pages is currently being hit with a DoS attack.[0]
I suspect the target maybe a site that is hosted on Github Pages, maybe a blog. The attackers may not be targeting Github directly.

kfinley··on Git is cheap
Yes, but the phrase "x is cheap" often means -- just use it. "x is inexpensive" doesn't have the same connotation. E.g. "memory is cheap"
kfinley··on Google rejects White House request to pull Mohammad film clip
I'm more concerned by this:

>U.S. authorities said on Friday that they were investigating whether the film's producer, Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, a 55-year old Egyptian Coptic Christian living in Southern California, had violated terms of his prison release. Basseley was convicted in 2010 for bank fraud and released from prison on probation last June.

This sets a bad precedence. "If you create something that we disagree with, you will be investigated". With the ever expanding number of laws we have in this country -- we are all, most certainly, guilty of something.

kfinley··on Buildpacks: Heroku for Everything
Thanks again slurgfest. I appreciate the way that App Engine does thing. What I ment to say, sorry it wasn't clear, is that by exposing a generic api to various services memcache, datastore, etc. App Engine could make it easier to add additional runtimes. And now that I think about it - I'm sure they are doing this to an extent.
kfinley··on Buildpacks: Heroku for Everything
slugfest, thank you for the detailed response. By "this route" I just ment creating independent isolated environments for the various runtime to operate within. Based on comments made on the GAE mailing list, I suspect they have moved in this direction. After reading your post I now understand that the issue is not allowing indiscriminate code to work in isolation, but to allow that code to interact with external services E.g. make http requests. Maybe in the future GAE will provide a generic API for interacting with the various service, but I don't know what that would look like.

Does anyone have any insight into why Google App Engine has not taken this route? Are there technical limitations within Google's infrastructure that would limit it?
