I think it's great that you created something that you find useful and works for you, and continue to create it after receiving negative criticism. I also think it's great that you're putting it out there, and wish you well with it. I'll end with that, as I don't want to be harsh or overly critical.

Familiar and comfortable syntax with C/C++/Obj-C/Java/Swift/Javascript/Typscript/Scala/etc... It's a procedural language, yet adopts functional elements. And the pool of developers is several orders of magnitude more. Your comment reeks of fanboyism.

I never like to criticize when someone creates something new. But decades of professional experience (having seen this concept come and go repeatedly over the years), taught me that HTML is your friend. I inherited a project that uses this concept, and there is no maintenance. Not because it's stable, but because it's more delicate than a faberge egg, so we never ever ever touch it.

I'm sure for some small projects with very infrequent layout changes, this could be nice to work with. But for any app of sufficient complexity, keep your markup out of your code be it through DOM construction or in string HTML. (React being the one implementation that MAY prove to be the exception to prove the rule, though it's too early to tell at this point).

Ideally, as a means of abstracting and controlling changes between your build and deploy steps and the third party tooling. Bash scripts are either too fragile for sufficiently complex applications, and therefore unlikely to be reusable. Additionally, if the script is sufficiently complex, then you have an additional complex component that you have to maintain yourself. For many projects, this is a non-issue, but for others, it can be quite the ordeal.

Grunt is as elegant as a penguin on land, and about as fast. My gulpfile is a fraction of the size of my gruntfile, and executes much quicker. Gulp has some control flow edges, and requires some workarounds that can make it tedious to maintain when you get into edge cases. Broccoli is ideal, but too difficult for all my team member to understand (and was still a tad flakey when I last used it).

I like to play with new ideas, and some of them don't end up hitting critical mass, but I appreciate their creation all the same. Often, they cause me to reconsider approaches I've taken on other projects.

I'm starting a new project tonight and will give this a go. It may not work, and all I've lost is a few hours. Creation for creation sake is what we should be about. Not everything should be about differentiators, and productivity gains. Sometimes, it's far more rewarding to just create, or to use someone else's creation. Almost every painting I have ever seen did nothing to differentiate itself in style, but I'm glad every single last one of them was painted.

Interesting that I actually don't need to know this stuff. I think you'll find that MOST developers actually don't need to know this stuff. People seem to forget that the vast bulk of developers are for corporate and in house development, single language, being English.

I know this stuff because I like to understand how this works, but for all the dev's under me, there are probably a thousand concepts that I want them to understand before they start tackling encoding beyond knowing when to call the correct function.

I'm not concerned with upsetting someone. But there is a difference between being offensive (of which I have no qualms) and inciting hate. You and I just draw the line differently, am I'm okay with that.

That isn't the argument. Racism, bigotry, exploitation, bullying are all examples of speech that has no place in an enlightened society in my view. Freedom of speech is limited in America too, the rest of us think that if you're going to have limitations, then set limitations which promotes human cooperation and understanding, and excludes speech which only serves to promote violence and the insularization of arbitrary groups.

It always surprises me when Americans think their concept of free speech is the only model. Much, if not most of the rest of the western world does not share this view of unchecked speech.

I honestly hope one of these takes off. I don't want to ever go there, I don't take amusement in other people's suffering. But seeing so much outrage on reddit from assholes bitching that they can't be racist/bigoted/loathsome on a private forum screaming about freedom of speech which belies their own ignorance makes me long for the days of gopher. I find it repugnant, and I'm glad to live in a country where I'm free to say anything, but hate speech is prosecuted.

I would expect absolutely no change at all. If you're able to ignore science, then why believe that a robot is actually on Mars anyway. Why believe that the magic box that you connect to the computer exists at all. If you're going to ignore science, then why would you try to rationalize at all. It's not like we put the smart kids in computers, engineering, physics, maths, chemistry, and physics; but then put the 'special' kids in paleontology. To believe a book over hard science because you were told to demonstrates a lack of critical thinking and a propensity to self delusion. I would expect a headline in a Christian blog to be "Scientists fake Mars life" or some other such nonsense.
