kclay··on Scala 2.12 Roadmap
I always wondered how that worked with scala. Giving how complex some libraries could be with use of implicits and not explicitly defining the return time I always thought it would be a bit troublesome to try to program without any use of intellisense. Then again I guess the same would apply to dynamic languages such as javascript and python so maybe my concerns are not really concerns.
kclay··on Scala 2.12 Roadmap
With 2.11 I have noticed the same speed up so thank you for all the current optimizations that have been happening.
kclay··on Scala 2.12 Roadmap
As others are going to say, I wish they spent some of the time optimizing the compile times, yes you can fix it with multi-projects and the incremental compiler but sometimes that doesn't work to well especially when you start to throw in advance scala features like macros. But maybe they are hoping the new backend helps, from the docs it looks like it may in some cases.
kclay··on IntelliJ IDEA 14 Early Preview is Available

kclay··on RethinkDB 1.13: pull data via HTTP, push data via changefeeds

kclay··on Shrturl: Faking the web since 1942
I was on mobile when I say this and didn't even notice the url. I can see how people on mobile atleast chrome can fall for stuff like this.
kclay··on Flappy Bird in Swift
Always had a problem with Objective C, could never read it (Android Dev) but this right here is pretty impressive. I like the mixture of language features. But my only question, are you still locked to using an mac to develop for iOS. I guess since the language is closed source it depends on some osx libs at compile time.
kclay··on Introducing Swift
Maybe I'll pickup iOS dev, do you still have to have an mac to dev?
kclay··on Understanding web pages better
Giving that chrome can debug ajax request with full call stack ,I wouldn't think it would be to hard to adapt to know these things.
kclay··on Scala – The Simple Parts
This is one of my major grips about Scala, but sometimes I'm also guilty of overusing this feature how you do Google <:< or ~?> or λ. Its even worse when the api you are working against doesn't have a "normal" function for what you are trying to do. It does take a while to remember them but even worst it makes it hard for new users to follow your code. Reminds me of some for a lack of a better work "voodoo" Perl code way back.
kclay··on Ask HN: Best current Linux-compatible laptop?
Have a similar configuration on my T530 as well, wonderful laptop. But I do need to tweak my TLP setting I get around 4-5 but think I have a 6cell
kclay··on Web Framework Benchmarks Round 9
May be because Spray was merged into the playframework, also I think it plays a bit in the akka http layer as well, not to sure.
kclay··on Android betrays tethering data
Sorta like how Verizon tries to block tethering on grandfather plans. If you are rooted its not a problem. But I never understood it if you are paying for it why have to go through these tricks. What needs to happen is all the money that these mobile networks are raking in they need to invest it in a better infrastructure, its only going to get worse.
kclay··on Ask HN: What is the most difficult tech/dev challenge you ever solved?
I guess mines was back when I used to do reverse engineering. It was when I was able to patch VRay rendering system for 3dstudio max. At the time vray had all nasty checks that would rendering artifacts randomly. Once you thing it was patch correctly it would mutate on you and produce watermarks or just a black screen. Not to mention if not patch correctly the person information that leaked it could of been recovered. For me this was a pretty big accomplishment when I was around 15-16, fun times.
kclay··on Ask HN: Idea Sunday
Mobile payments for the vending Industry, yes they have card swipers but what if you don't have your Cc.
kclay··on JQuery Gantt editor. Open source, SVG based.
I had to build one of these once in Flash, how did you handle leap year
kclay··on Ask HN: Idea Sunday
For some reason I like this idea, not sure why but seems like something that could help my wife immensely as well as other mothers.
kclay··on Moving Remy in Harmony: Pixar's Use of Harmonic Functions
O how I hated to do animation, if you didn't build your character correctly you would get all types of bends and pops when trying to animate. I rather just stick to character modeling, sadly I switched majors since I realized it would be hard to get into a good job afterwards .I already did all the basic sutff, did superbowl coverage animation for news station when I interned in HS, as was at the top of my class in college but I would of needed to move to get any challenge, which I wasn't ready for at that time. O well.
kclay··on Microsoft Open Sources C# Compiler

kclay··on Portia, an open-source visual web scraper

kclay··on Reviews for Mike Judge's "Silicon Valley" on HBO
That's fine, I just get the free service for 3 months then drop it, then do it again. For some reason At&t keeps letting me do this for over a year.
kclay··on Reviews for Mike Judge's "Silicon Valley" on HBO
After presenting at the last TC disrupt last year me and my business partner was contacted by someone planing the show. They wanted to use our material and or us as extras when they recreated Disrupt. Not sure what happened but we lost contact with them. Been waiting to see how this show turned out.
kclay··on The startup freelancer
Depending on my workload sometimes I do that.If the client has more then enough work to keep me busy I wont hesitate to make room from them. As for how long, some have been short as a few months, others 4-6months+ the longest was around 2 years.
kclay··on The startup freelancer
I've been doing this for the past 7 years, from big data to social sites, to single page apps to chat/video applications and more. I have to say its been the best way to learn about different technology and to solve new problems. Also the fast pace environment is something I like.
kclay··on RethinkDB 1.12: simplified map/reduce, ARM port, new caching infrastructure
I feel your pain, If I had to do it all in java I would of cried to no end.
kclay··on RethinkDB 1.12: simplified map/reduce, ARM port, new caching infrastructure
I could provide some assistance, I've did the scala driver and was making it work with java . When I get some time I'll submit a pull request.
kclay··on Squants: The Scala API for Quantities, Units of Measure and Dimensional Analysis
Nice, seems like this would fit well for cryptocurrencies.
kclay··on Angular 2.0
The new DI system looks promising, looks like they are trying to make a JS version of Guice which I love in java. The whole thing of using annotations in javascript seems a bit out of place though especially when ide/text don't support them. Also the logging framework, seems they are making sure that they cover some "enterprise" concerns.
