kayodelycaon··on Top UN legal investigators conclude Israel is guilty of genocide in Gaza
Out of curiosity, how would you plan to do that?

You know nothing about me.

kayodelycaon··on Top UN legal investigators conclude Israel is guilty of genocide in Gaza
Given all the hatred that is going around, I believe the genocide is real. And if it's not real yet, it will be if someone doesn't put a stop to this.

But all the reporting does not add up.

Half the pictures Hamas shows of starving children aren't legitimate. They're children with medical conditions, not in Gaza, or from a different conflict.

The number of people starving to death each day are in the single or low double digits. If what was said was really true, there would be tens of thousands of people dead by now.

And I don't believe a single thing Israel says either. How many tunnels were actually found under hospitals? Definitely at least one. Definitely not all of them.

A little truth makes all the lies more believable.

We have bombed their leadership. This is an entirely different war. Hamas was/is the government of Gaza. They're part of the people there, not outside it.

You're trying to fight an organization that is part of the civilian population, not above it or outside of it. And that organization is deliberately using human shields to blur the lines even further.

It's not easy to figure out who's a random Palestinian or who's going to fire a rocket into Israel five years from now. If we want to keep bombing our way to victory, that's going to continue down the road of genocide.

Humanity needs to be better than this. We need to be better than this.

I have an Ultra Mobile eSIM as a second line on my iPhone. Costs $3/mo and you can buy cards to top it up or add a credit card. My primary eSIM is a regular phone plan.

It works surprisingly well. I can easily turn off the second line in Settings without removing it.

I could’ve bought an unlocked phone with cash somewhere and used the SIM in that. They wouldn’t know who I was.

I didn’t do that because it was inconvenient and it wouldn’t be anonymous once I started using it for SMS authentication.

kayodelycaon··on I feel Apple has lost its alignment with me and other long-time customers
Agreed. I’m going to be very sad when I have to replace my red Apple Watch.
kayodelycaon··on Samsung taking market share from Apple in U.S. as foldable phones gain momentum
I think these features are or can be implemented. But they are definitely not obvious. And it’s possible they weren’t there when you first used an iPhone.

To clear all, swipe down on the top left to show Notification Center. You should see an X button right of the words “Notification Center”.

If you want to launch an app from control center, open control center (swipe down from the battery icon), press and hold on a clear area until you’re able to edit it. Add a control. Scroll down until you see the Shortcuts controls and pick Open App, then pick Settings.

1. A lot of people won't go to a doctor in the united states

2. They may be so used to pain they don't think to mention it.

3. A lot of people lie to their doctors for one reason or another.

You might want to read the entire article. His depiction of bipolar is completely accurate. In fact it is so precisely accurate in every detail, and conveyed with no extraneous information, is indicative of someone who knows the disorder very well.

When I write fiction or important emails, I am precise with the words I use. I notice these kind of details. I’m also bipolar and self-aware enough to be deeply familiar with it.

I write fiction and use proper em-dashes all the time in long form writing. It's option + - on macOS.

kayodelycaon··on A teen was suicidal. ChatGPT was the friend he confided in
Mental health is a lot more complicated than that. A visible external cause isn’t necessary. Things are completely normal people wouldn’t have any problem with can be extremely traumatizing to someone else

Teenagers may not have the life experience to handle what adults find simple.

Neural divergence can be a major factor as well.

Telling a child with ADHD they just need to try harder is a recipe for life-long self-hatred.

Reddit was a cesspool before social media became big.
kayodelycaon··on A teen was suicidal. ChatGPT was the friend he confided in
It’s way more common than you think. I’m in a bubble of anti-AI people and we can see people we know going down that road. My family (different bubble) knows people. Every group of people I know knows somebody doing this.

For context, my friends and family are in the northern Midwest. Average people, not early adopters of new technology.

kayodelycaon··on A teen was suicidal. ChatGPT was the friend he confided in
It’s even more horrifying than only sharing his feelings with ChatGPT would imply.

It basically said: your brother doesn’t know you; I’m the only person you can trust.

This is absolutely criminal. I don’t even think you can claim negligence. And there is no amount of money that will deter any AI company from doing it again.

kayodelycaon··on A teen was suicidal. ChatGPT was the friend he confided in
A noose is really basic information when it comes to tying knots. It’s also situationally useful, so there’s a good reason to include it in any educational material.

The instructions are only a problem in the wrong context.

kayodelycaon··on A teen was suicidal. ChatGPT was the friend he confided in
I suspect Reddit is a major source of their training material. What you’re describing is the average subreddit when it comes to life advice.
kayodelycaon··on A teen was suicidal. ChatGPT was the friend he confided in
Pretty much. I’ve got my account customized for writing fiction and exploring hypotheticals. I’ve never gotten a stopped for anything other than confidential technical details about itself.
kayodelycaon··on Marshal madness: A brief history of Ruby deserialization exploits
I thought Marshal and non-safe yaml are fundamentally unsafe. You’re allowing input to instantiate arbitrary objects. It’s relatively easy to find an exploitable class.

Python’s pickle function is equivalent and has a warning about this.

kayodelycaon··on Gutenprint Discontinues macOS Support
Yes. Even better, you also get officially supported drivers from the manufacturer.

Sometimes you need them to fully utilize the printer, like my Canon Pixma Pro-100.

Trauma is not an excuse or justification for the level of hatred described and especially not for years.

Unless someone is completely incapable of rational action (which has happened to me), there’s some level of personal responsibility involved.

I wouldn’t argue that conservatives are stupid and motivated by hatred. However, many people voted for a campaign of blatant hate and an explicitly stated desire for revenge. This definitely colors your view of anyone that doesn’t think this is a bad thing.

kayodelycaon··on I forced every engineer to take sales calls and they rewrote our platform
I can relate to Alt 4. Having my work email on something and finding out the person behind the desk is a customer can be unfun.

I haven’t used the products of any company I’ve worked for.

kayodelycaon··on The Rise and Fall of Music Ringtones: A Statistical Analysis
You can still make custom ring tones this way if you have access to a Mac laptop. You make a m4a file, rename it to m4r, and transfer it to the phone using finder.
kayodelycaon··on How I Made Ruby Faster Than Ruby
Neat. It automates the same kind of optimization I’ve done with ERB before (pre-compiled templates in constants). It means I don’t have to teach people were and how to optimize ERB.

To get faster this, you need to get out your profiling tools and your notebook.

Builder::XmlMarkup and strings are significantly more flexible and have many optimization points. (E.g. not escaping numbers.) They have the potential to be an order of magnitude faster. But you’ll be using that notebook to diagram where everything goes.

kayodelycaon··on GenAI FOMO has spurred businesses to light nearly $40B on fire
Well, at least AI is going to be better than the blockchain hype. No one knew what “blockchain” was, how it worked, or what could be used for.

I had a very hard time explaining once you put something in the chain, you can’t easily pull it back out. If you wanted to verify documents, all you have to do is put a hash in a database table. Which we already had.

It has exactly one purpose: prevent any single entity from controlling the contents. That includes governments, business executives, lawyers, judges, and hackers. The only good thing is every single piece of data can be pulled out into a different data structure once you realize your mistake.

Note, I’m greatly oversimplifying all the details and I’m not referring to cryptocurrency.

kayodelycaon··on ADHD drug treatment and risk of negative events and outcomes
High-functioning doesn’t mean you’re not suffering horribly every single day. It can mean you’re a strong willed and good at masking.

I was “functional” through a four month long psychotic break in which I was constantly one mistake from people finding out I wasn’t human and killing me. (I’m fine now. No lasting trauma fortunately.)

How someone looks from the outside isn’t a good measure of their mental health. How many people have been depressed and killed themselves without any obvious warnings?

kayodelycaon··on ADHD drug treatment and risk of negative events and outcomes
Same. Excellent hearing but I can’t follow conversations in noisy places. I only catch every other word. It’s like my brain isn’t filtering out the noise in real time so it just stops hearing.

Annoyingly, this can also affect video calls when people don’t speak clearly.
