karol··on Show HN: A guide to all HTML5 elements and attributes
Can you help with a community driven website content as well? http://docs.webplatform.org/wiki/html
karol··on Oxfam: World's 8 richest as wealthy as half humanity
The real issue is here is how much assets with finite supply and cruicial to human existence (e.g. food and water supply, real estate, cruicial technology) can be brought under control of few individuals with such wealth. For example if someone buys the majority of land, there will not be an easy way out even if the monetary wealth distribution will change.

I am wondering why isn't it more often discussed that wealth yields assets that yields even more wealth, because this is how capitalism is set up. This means that the situation cannot be easily improved because wealthy individuals have supeior knowledge and assets to enrich themselves further.

karol··on Ask HN: Why does Google put the query in the URL hash instead of query string?
Pretty sure they do it for search privacy as hash is not usually passed in "referer" header, so the pages visited from google search will not have access to the typed query.
karol··on Gravity Simulator
The source is browsable if you modofy the URL. I expect someone with create a canvas driven clone within 48h:)
karol··on Svg.js
How does it compare to raphael.js?
karol··on Chromebox
Those 2 comments really helped me understand where chromeOS and other browser-OS machines sit. The are the opposite of Raspberry PI, which is a tiny but all-capable thing for general purpose computing. They are limited by design, therefore might be more secure (not prone to OS-vulnerabilities) and suitable for anti-power users.
karol··on Visualizing Code to Fail Faster
You've got to have big ego to write, that Bret Victor's innovative ideas are not "entirely abstract art house visualization nonsense". BV's demos set the direction in which the whole field of working with ideas, including designers and programmers should be going. In 2012 programmers shouldn't have to be really good at running the code in their heads while writing it.
karol··on Basket.js: A simple script loader that caches scripts with localStorage
I am using a manifest in my new app and never witnessed a user prompt. I am testing on Android 2.2 native browser, chrome and safari.
karol··on Touchscreens have no hand
I think you touched on the underlying principle of why pictures behind glass interfaces are so popular. The only way to satisfy the mass demand and follow market rules is to master cloning of physical objects. Not everyone can afford a piano but everyone can have a piano app, because of perfect copies of software and near perfect copies of hardware.
karol··on Lifepath.me on eBay
Lifepath.me presents a completely different world view than facebook timeline. FB reminds you of your past shiny happy moments you cared to capture with a camera. Lifepath in its current form is almost a reminder of your biological limitations and that every single day counts. It caters for much smaller audience than FB, because people in general do not wish to be reminded about their death. With the lack of pictures I can see it could become a sort of anti-facebook private diary of achievements that really mattered. I too think that Diaspora with their idealistic vision of social networks would be an ideal buyer here. They could also use some design lessons from this app, they badly need it.
karol··on Computable Document Format
There is something like this for HTML + CSS. It's called tangle.js and was created by Bret Victor: http://worrydream.com/Tangle/
