kappi··on Geoff Ralston taking over as President of YC
Do you have plans to invest in real tech rather than toy stuffs like Peter Thiel tells?
kappi··on Low-earth orbit satellites threatened by debris from Indian anti-satellite test
https://sattrackcam.blogspot.com/2019/04/ most of the debris will stay on orbit for several weeks to months: by half a year from now, most of it should be gone however, except for a few lingering pieces.

Probability is very low similar to the one in the below article.

Odds of hitting is 1 in 300 Trillion https://www.livescience.com/61955-chinese-space-station-reen...

kappi··on NASA: Indian satellite destruction creates space junk, threatens safety of ISS
Former DRDO scientist Ravi Gupta told TOI, "Such comments by the Nasa head are discriminatory and irresponsible. It's more of a propaganda. India's test was conducted at 300km altitude and the ISS is at much higher altitude. There is a remote possibility of debris moving upwards and even if some pieces are moving upwards, they will ultimately fall down as they will lose energy or momentum they gained during the missile-satellite collision. Second, the US is blaming us but it itself had conducted a lot of A-Sat tests in the past which generated thousands and thousands of big size space debris, which already pose danger to all space assets of every country, including ours. Likewise, a lot of space debris was created during the similar tests conducted by Russia and China. https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/nasa-says-a-sat-te...
kappi··on U.S. to ground Boeing 737 Max 8
Don't understand the need for banning. I forgot to copy the link of news article.. Anybody can easily see that it is an official or news language and not a comment from me. It is copied from the below bigger article

kappi··on U.S. to ground Boeing 737 Max 8
Boeing 737 Max 8 has a different software system. That software is now a focus of investigators. The Max 8 is outfitted with bigger, more fuel-efficient engines than earlier 737s, and the weight and positioning of those engines shifted the plane's center of gravity forward, increased the potential for the nose to pitch up after take-off. To counteract this risk, Boeing developed software known as the Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System, or MCAS.

Max 8s come equipped with a sensor that reads the plane's angle relative to the wind flow, prompting MCAS to automatically trigger the plane's nose to angle downward if it gets a specific reading.

However, problems could arise if the MCAS system gets erroneous sensor readings. The system automatically pushes the plane's nose down, potentially surprising pilots who are unfamiliar with the system and overriding their commands. This is what investigators believe happened to Lion Air Flight 610 before it crashed in October

kappi··on Did Sam Altman Make YC Better or Worse?
Somebody who got a free ride because of just having connections. Why do we hype these useless folks.
kappi··on The Planned Obsolescence of Old Coders
Non engineering departments in tech will be white male majority.
kappi··on The Planned Obsolescence of Old Coders
Human beings went to moon before we had this coding test. this online coding test itself is indirect age discrimination..this is insanity needs to stop..except for few high end jobs most jobs don't use any of these need deep algorithmic knowledge..this has led to a cottage industry of books, websites etc..some younger folks prepare for 6+ months, go for weekend mockup tests etc...older folks don't have time or motivation to do any of these.
kappi··on A listing of companies that don't do whiteboard job interviews
The theoretical coding interview based on undergrad CS topics has become a cottage industry by itself with books, online sites etc. Very few people know that this is used for indirect age discrimination to favor young folks. Not sure when this insanity will stop. Human beings went to moon before we had this coding interviews.
kappi··on Harder programming questions do a worse job of predicting outcomes
Another use of these kind of interviews is age discrimination to filter out of older candidates who don't have time or motivation to prepare for this BS. This is just another fad.. In late 90s there was fad for MSFT style puzzle interviews..then it went out of fashion.. this will also go out of trend.. just wait for couple of more years.
kappi··on Top 100 Foods to Eat Before You Die
maybe the title should have been top 100 Mediterranean/European foods
kappi··on More Google Employees Are Losing Faith in Their CEO's Vision
It is a paradox that Google who boasts themselves to be very technical, gave CEO job to someone who was never software engineeer or written single line of code. His path to fame initially was product management of IE plugin. Smart enough to suck up to founders and give a perception of no threat to them, assured his path to the throne by kicking down others and grabbing successful projects from other leaders.

kappi··on How tech baffled an elderly Congress
Putting term limits for Senators is a good way to get rid of this old club and bring new blood. Some senators are there for their life.
kappi··on Tesla Autopilot HW3 details
There are many startups coming up with solidstate lidars that will be commercialized in the next two years. Teslas of today without lidars during that time will have big disadvantage compared to the competition. I am assuming Tesla will also release one with Lidar in 2020 though Elon Musk publicly say it is not needed. Like Steve Jobs he will change his statement when Tesla releases one with lidar.
kappi··on Chip wars: China, America and silicon supremacy
I am not Chinese. I work in chip company and vast majority of EE engineers are Chinese. White americans may be 1-2% percentage at the junior level. It may be less than 10% overall. There are some older white americans but they all will retire soon. Like I said before, nobody to blame. Follow the easy money.
kappi··on Chip wars: China, America and silicon supremacy
Story that all chinese technology is stolen is not true. They have lot of talent and hardworking folks in cutting edge technology. Vast majority of employees in US chip companies doing cutting edge technology are also Chinese. Most of US engineers chase easy money in web technology etc. Same concern was raised by Peter Theil about VC investing not in hard tech. Ycombinator is also classic example of investing tons of money in only short term tech. Most of silicon tech needs 5-7 years or even more.
kappi··on Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey Accused of ‘hate Mongering’ in India

This is the problem when startups are founded based only on the founders name. Foolish idea shouldn't have got a penny of investment.
