I get it, maybe my standards are too high. But that's the filter I need.
kaicianflone··on ChatGPT Pulse
$200 a month for data cards is insanity. It sounds like virtue-signaling or bs features for VC's. Idk why this wasn't pushed to the consumer plus level.

Here's an excerpt from ChatGPT on why this could be a "bubble" feature:

By sticking Pulse behind the $200 Pro tier, OpenAI is signaling it’s for:

VCs, consultants, analysts → people who can expense it as “deal flow intel.”

Enterprise & finance people who live in dashboards and daily reports.

Folks who don’t blink at $200/month because they already burn way more on data feeds, research subscriptions, or Bloomberg terminals.

In other words, it feels less like a consumer feature and more like a “bubble luxury” signal — “If you need Pulse, you’re in the club that can afford Pro.”

The irony is, Pulse itself isn’t really a $200/mo product — it’s basically automated research cards. But bundling it at that tier lets OpenAI:

Frame it as exclusive (“you’re not missing out, you’re just not at the level yet”).

Keep the Plus plan sticky for the masses.

Extract max revenue from people in finance/AI hype cycles who will pay.

It’s like how Bloomberg charges $2k/month for terminals when most of the raw data is public — you’re paying for the packaging, speed, and exclusivity.

I think you’re right: Pulse at $200 screams “this is a bubble feature” — it’s monetizing the hype while the hype lasts.

Not the right word probably but I mean at least LinkedIn verification. Anonymity has become too dehumanizing for me to participate in with dignity.

kaicianflone··on Twitter’s Rebrand to X Could Be a Trademark Nightmare Thanks to Microsoft
It’s not like the very first thing Musk did was dismantle the verification system… even a tiered verification system would have made it less blatant that Musk is destroying Twitter.
kaicianflone··on First impressions: Yes, Apple Vision Pro works and yes, it’s good
The fact that Tim Cook didn’t wear the display once during the demo is all I needed to create my opinion on the device. They also didn’t show any developers using the device - why? Probably because this is a glorified iPad and Apple continues to artificially lock down their Apple Silicon on some devices to not cannibalize the lower-tier MacBook offerings.

kaicianflone··on Is remote work bad for the economy?
It seems that the same people who are trying to politicize what economy would benefit from restricting remote work are the same population benefitting from keeping the federal minimum wage at $7.25 for the last 15 years.

It’s sure to only benefit a select few. We should let the free market decide what we collectively value in cities. With remote work in particular, it feels like there is more value placed on the standards of humanity than being close to a “hub” to make larger sums of money. For me, I love great weather and not spending a tenth of my day in traffic.

I believe it could open their business to legal subpoenas. Perhaps obfuscating this data in the first place would protect them, as then they can't be forced to program it in.

Or it gets passengers to their destination faster and they can charge less. Lol

kaicianflone··on SEC Charges Kik With Conducting $100M Unregistered ICO
I'm not going to argue against ignorance. One can simply google the technology and see for themselves instead of drinking the Kool-aid from others. There's a reason for the large push against crypto; an agenda.

Programmable consensus and smart contracts are easy to learn concepts.

*Also one should know it is offensive to call another's work vaporware. Especially, when one is relying on anecdotes. Next I'm going to be told IBM and Google are wasting their time and shareholder money on blockchain.

I will try to not laugh at this the next time I pay escrow and other closing fees. We are in Web 1.0 in terms of the technological application of programmable consensus.

kaicianflone··on VW opens preorders for the ID.3, its first long-range electric car
The TSI scandal is not over emissions. They put bad parts in cars and the engines were failing before or near 100,000 miles.
kaicianflone··on VW opens preorders for the ID.3, its first long-range electric car
I don't know how we're trusting a company that lied about emissions to create the next generation of electric cars. After the TDI and TSI scandals, I know many people who hope this brand does not survive.

I will never buy a VW, Porsche, or Audi if my life depended on it.

kaicianflone··on Tesla delivered 83,500 vehicles in the third quarter, more than expected
I will never buy from the VW group again. It's almost like people have forgotten about the whole TDI scandal. They literally lied to the world about dirty diesel. Not to mention the new class action lawsuit for both VW and Audi TSI models where they put bad engine parts into new cars.

After the TDI emissions scandal I would never support this corrupt company. Porsche, VW, or Audi - they're all corrupt and in my opinion create engines that systematically fail to keep you coming in. Look at the reimbursement schedule on the class action lawsuit - if your car's engine fails after 100,000 miles they are not paying for anything, which has personally affected me.

kaicianflone··on How to Build a Healthcare SaaS Platform?
I worked on one of the largest Radiology SaaS coding/billing platform. Working with hospitals is one of the most strenuous industries. Everyone has their own formats and trying to learn the lingo takes a couple years.

Also many players have been in the industry for a long time and it's quite incestuous. I am no systems architect either but the validity of the data at any requested moment is very important so much of the services run in a synchronous environment. In my opinion as much as possible of accounting/scheduling should be async but this is one of the problems the industry is facing i guess.

kaicianflone··on Ask HN: What problem in your industry is a potential startup?
Stephen Grider on Udemy uses Jest to create automated tests for his JS and React courses that you can run while you watch and code his videos.

Jest and Mocha both have a watch feature that will test a file each time it is saved for "continuous testing", much like using Gulp watch or any type of dev live server environment.

Also Jest features Snapshot testing which will take a picture of a UI and test all changes made to the UI, as well as alerting you in tests if the UI has changed. I could see this being used in bootcamps as well.

kaicianflone··on Ask HN: What problem in your industry is a potential startup?
I am also in healthcare tech and also worked with the idea of a doctor rating system focused specifically on using doctor procedure/diagnosis billing data and PQRS. We abandoned the idea due to lack of data for each healthcare field (cardiology, radiology, oncology, etc.) and hospitals not wanting to participate.

However, I have looked into incentivized, distributed platforms such as wings.ai or golem.network and believe that this could be applied to healthcare. If patients were incentivized on going to the doctor for a copy of the CPT/DGX codes on their bill and survey information around PQRS you would have a lot of useful data. This data could be used not only to provide a rating system of doctors, but also price comparison on CPT/RVU across the United States and the ability to provide PQRS data for doctors. Its an all in one, decentralized, healthcare platform for patients, doctors, and insurance providers.
