kachhalimbu··on Ask HN: What's the best programming book you've read recently?
I highly recommend "Secrets of JavaScript Ninja by John Resig and Bear Bibeault. It tremendously help me level up my JS skills. http://www.manning.com/resig/
kachhalimbu··on Realistic terrain in 130 lines of JavaScript
I made a jsfiddle and added dat.gui http://workshop.chromeexperiments.com/examples/gui/#1--Basic... so you can modify the "detail" parameter to change the terrain without requiring a page refresh http://jsfiddle.net/kachhalimbu/br8Xd/1/ Full screen result here http://jsfiddle.net/kachhalimbu/br8Xd/1/embedded/result/
kachhalimbu··on All O'Reilly Ebooks 50% off today
I recently bought and been reading through "programming 3D applications with html5 and WebGL" by Tony Parisi. Extremely well written and thorough.
kachhalimbu··on Difference between JavaScript and Java?

kachhalimbu··on Ask HN: I've done absolutely no work since December 15th
I agree with this. If you haven't been doing anything in past few weeks, go do something, anything. More mundane the better but it would help you a great deal if you do someone a favor. When I'm burn out I just do the chores around house. I will deep clean my house, my car or just organize my stuff. Send letters, photos to my family. May be not the most productive tasks but it tells my subconscious mind that I'm doing things and this just carries over into the real work. Suddenly I'm back in swing of doing the things that matter.
kachhalimbu··on Ask HN: What's your desktop wallpaper?

kachhalimbu··on Top 15 Cheap, Safe and Friendly Countries | Kimeshan Naidoo
Good to see Taiwan at #8. Lovely country, safe and very friendly. I have been working here for past 7 years. I wouldn't call it cheapest but hey I come from India. Reminds of a news[1] recently that a USA police officer came to Taiwan and was shocked to learn this "Kaohsiung has a population of more than 2 million people. He was shocked to hear the city only averages about 10 murders a year. When his group visited the city of Taitung — a city with a population of about 250,000 people — they learned the last murder was in 2005." kachhalimbu··on There's a coffeeshop called java.update() in GTA V
There is also a JSP breakfast store in Taiwan http://iwannagothere.com/userfiles/pictures/0005/5397/P10409...
kachhalimbu··on Ask HN: How do you manage your photos?
Everpix sounds like a very good service. Almost too good to be true kind. I'll definitely give it try. I just wonder if I'm auto-posting from one service to others will I end up storing multiple copies within Everpix?
kachhalimbu··on Ask HN: iGoogle Replacement
He meant iGoogle http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IGoogle
kachhalimbu··on Ask HN: Is Facebook secretly keeping accounts open?
I deactivated and scheduled to delete it (the option which was so well hidden that time) my account 3 yrs ago and created a new one but with same email account earlier this year. FB magically showed me all my 190 friends in the friend suggestions. I guess they never deleted any of my information.
kachhalimbu··on PivotTable.js: a JavaScript Pivot Table implementation
This is pretty cool and fast. For Java people check out ZK Pivottable http://www.zkoss.org/product/zkpivottable
kachhalimbu··on Ask HN: So - what's the consensus on a Google Reader replacement?
Do you happen to know? Quick Google search didn't help. Are their any potential security concerns to the user if using their extension?
kachhalimbu··on A letter to my daughter, Augusta, in ruby
I'm tempted to fork this, change name to my daughter's name and frame it or make a Tee. Not sure if the author would think of it as disrespectful.
kachhalimbu··on Ask HN: Which linux distribution are you using?
Linux mint 12 at home for personal projects/open source.
kachhalimbu··on Ask HN: Best book for learning advanced javascript
The best I have found for advanced javascript to be is "Secrets of the Javascript Ninja"[1] by John Resig and Bear Bibeault. Highly recommended. Currently I am reading "Javascript web applications"[2] by Alex MacCaw and it seems to be well written and to the point as well.

kachhalimbu··on Steve's Google Platform rant
I get 7 days paid holiday here in Taiwan. and additional 1 week as a part of Chinese new year. 2 weeks/year is twice better to me.
kachhalimbu··on What should I do with my life?
You can apply this reasoning to any decision you want to make and talk yourself out of it immediately. But even then at the end of the day you have to make a decision. Why not back yourself to succeed and commit to it for a while. You can always change course later on. Life is all about experiences and learning from ones mistakes. Good luck to you.
kachhalimbu··on Ask HN: What book should I recommend to someone who just finished LPTHW?
Zed himself recommends Django book as the Next Steps[1] at the end of LPTHW. If he wants to dig deep into Python Dive into Python [2] would be a great book to start working on next. For other language I would recommend some static type language just to broaden his programming understanding. [1] http://learnpythonthehardway.org/book/next.html [2] http://diveintopython.org/
kachhalimbu··on Ask HN: Do you email your best friends?
I moved out of India few years ago and now live in Taiwan. Most of my best friends are in India but few are in US. I have tried all sorts of things personal blog, posterous group blog, google group, google site and other social networks such as Facebook and Orkut but finally we have settled on exchanging emails as the only way to keep in touch. I think it is perfectly normal. Some of us were bothered by having to to leave their inboxes and go to some other website just to check on our group messages and also email provided sort of privacy we were all comfortable with. Almost all of us use gmail for the threaded conversations (gmail) which are great for these sort of emails (photos/events/outing reports)
kachhalimbu··on Ask HN: Cost of living across the world (Ramen PPP Index for hackers)
Those numbers are pretty much spot on. I have lived 5 years in taiwan and most of it in Taoyuan county (jhongli/yangmei) and my living costs were in 10~14k NT$ range.
kachhalimbu··on Poll: Where do you live?
I'm working in Taiwan for past 5 years
kachhalimbu··on How can I keep learning on my 1.5 hr commute?
I have a 3 hr daily commute to work. I normally just take a nap or listen to soft music. Occasionally though I listen to Are We Alone http://radio.seti.org/ podcast.
