k__··on Brain has five 'eras' with adult mode not starting until early 30s
I tried it a few times, but smoking in general was very unpleasant, so I never started smoking anything.
k__··on Three Years from GPT-3 to Gemini 3
Yeah.

I worked with Grok 4.1 and it was awesome until it wasn't.

It told me to build something, just to tell me in the end that I could do it smaller and cheaper.

And that multiple times.

Best reply was the one that ended with something algong the lines of "I've built dozens of them!"

k__··on Brain has five 'eras' with adult mode not starting until early 30s
Same.

I always felt like I'm 10 years behind.

k__··on Shai-Hulud Returns: Over 300 NPM Packages Infected
Maybe, we have to rethink depencies from the ground up.

Implementing everything yourself probably won't cut it.

Copying a dependency into your code base and maintaining it yourself probably won't yield much better results.

However, if a dependency would be part of the version control, depends could at least do a code review before installing an update.

That wouldn't help with new dependencies, that come in with issues right from.the start, but it could help preventing new malware from slipping in later.

A setup like that could benefit from a crowd-sourced review process, similar to Wikipedia.

I think, Nimble, the package manager of Nim, uses a decentralised registry approach based on Git repos. Something like that could be a good start.

k__··on Disney Lost Roger Rabbit
Sure, but what about 10 or 15 years?
k__··on Disney Lost Roger Rabbit
35 years seem quite excessive.

Taking half your life to get your stuff back?

k__··on The realities of being a pop star
Who in the top 20 wouldn't you consider conventionally attractive?
k__··on Show HN: F32 – An Extremely Small ESP32 Board
I just learned about XIAO boards from Grok a few days ago, lol.

The Sense versions are pretty rad. Now I only have to add a battery and a touch sensor and I'm good to go.

k__··on Run Docker containers natively in Proxmox 9.1 (OCI images)
Is this similar to what FlyIO is doing? Running containers as microVMs?
k__··on Gaming on Linux has never been more approachable
My current stack: LG Gram, Manjaro, Steam.

I'm mostly playing MtG: Arena and it works like a charm.

I could even install Steam via the package manager.

k__··on Basalt Woven Textile
So, I can sew a battle west made of rock?!

k__··on Experiment: Making TypeScript immutable-by-default
While TS allows easy integration with JS, this doesn't work well with other languages that compile to JS.

You lose all type benefits of libraries that are written in TS.

k__··on Experiment: Making TypeScript immutable-by-default
I'm still mad about Reason/ReScript for fumbling the bag here.
k__··on Do not put your site behind Cloudflare if you don't need to
I've learned this the hard way, by putting an Arweave gateway behind Cloudflare.

The gateway was checked regularly for random data and the client would stop a download after 1MB, causing the gateway to stop sending the rest of the file.

However, Cloudflare CDN wouldn't stop when the client stop, causing the gateway to send the whole file. Some files are multiple GBs big, so I suddenly got an invoice of 600€.

k__··on Boa: A standard-conforming embeddable JavaScript engine written in Rust
Awesome!

I'm always on the lookout for embeddable JS engines.

How hard would it be to make Boa deterministic?

Like, with seeded randomness, etc.

k__··on Comparing the Latitude of Europe and America
I always thought it was funny that the north of the US becomes as snow paradise in the winter, while most of Germany, which is at Canada level, just becomes a bit colder version of autumn at that time.
k__··on Hiring a developer as a small indie studio in 2025
To be fair, "outside of budget" and "didn't qualify" are pretty much catch all.
k__··on Ticker: Don't die of heart disease
Good point.

I've forgotten that blood pressure is another word for it, as all medical papers use hypertension.

Thanks!

k__··on Ticker: Don't die of heart disease
There doesn't seem to be any mention of hypertension on that page.
k__··on The human visual system: image shape and binocular vision
Can't we filter out fisheye distortions digitally, if we know what lenses caused them?
k__··on Ask HN: Freelancer? Seeking freelancer?
SEEKING WORK

Germany, remote only.

My latest endeavours led me to Effect-TS while building a decentralised web crawler for a grant.

Before that I kept the docs of a cloud provider up-to-date.

I'm also volunteering as the editor in chief of a public goods foundation.

k__··on Some people can't see mental images
The details get better or near photorealistic when I'm about to doze off.

When I wide awake, parts of the image are "gone" when I'm not focusing them.

Also, the sensation of seeing in my mind does feel different. It's like there is some different place where that image is showing up.

Even if I imagine the mental image to overlay with my real vision, it feels like it's "added" somewhere between my conscious mind and the outside/real world.

k__··on Linux gamers on Steam cross over the 3% mark
I'm using Steam on Arch and am very happy with it.

The recurring compilation of Vulcan shaders after every update bothers a bit, but it works very well.

k__··on Some people can't see mental images
No.

When I'm fully awake, the mental images are more like someone attached a new camera with a field of view that ends at the edges of the object/scene I try to generate.

k__··on Uv is the best thing to happen to the Python ecosystem in a decade
I think, Nim is probably the best fit.

It also compiles to JS.

k__··on ChatGPT's Atlas: The Browser That's Anti-Web
They gotta do this.

If they don't put AI in every tool, they won't get new training data.

k__··on It's insulting to read AI-generated blog posts
This.

It's about to find the sweet spot.

Vibe coding is crap, but I love the smarter autocomplete I get from AI.

Generating whole blog posts from thin air is crap, but I love smart grammar, spelling, and diction fixes I get from AI.

k__··on Fast TypeScript (Code Complexity) Analyzer
Maybe because the type can be inferred and it potentially adds effort for changes in the future.
