k__··on The Dilbert Afterlife
I found Dilbert in 2013, when I was working in a dead end dev job in a small software company. Felt nice to see others seem to have the same issues.

I quit that job and started freelancing. Not only because of those comics, but at least they didn't give me any doubts about that endeavour.

What I learned: engineering skills give you power, but it's not the only thing you can be nerdy at.

You can be nerdy about anything.

It just happens to be that software engineering is something that people with much money are willing to pay for.

Just imagine you're history nerd. Not much options to profit quickly from that.

Same goes the other direction. If you happen to really like financial markets and math, you might find ways to make even more money with less work than an engineer.

k__··on Prime chains
Interesting!

Does anyone know other innovative PoW chains?

k__··on Danish Armed Forces expand their presence and continue exercises in Greenland
The conversion could include a doctrine change.
k__··on Danish Armed Forces expand their presence and continue exercises in Greenland
Yeah, maybe this will make the case for converting France's arsenal to an EU arsenal.
k__··on Danish Armed Forces expand their presence and continue exercises in Greenland
It's about what happens globally after an occupation

k__··on Scott Adams has died
Yeah, at least in China noone can vote out The Party.
k__··on Scott Adams has died
They were building an imperium themselves before and after.
k__··on Scott Adams has died
Pride made it worth it?!
k__··on Xfce is great
Yeah, everything on my notebook is quite small.

But now I have so much screen real estate, I'm almost considering using a tiling window manager.

k__··on Conbini Wars – Map of Japanese convenience store ratios
A few years ago, I was in Wroclaw and it was full of convenience stores.

Where I stayed, you could go to a store and from there see the next one already.

k__··on Embassy: Modern embedded framework, using Rust and async
Last time I checked, I couldn't get my dmic running. Something about PDM being missing.
k__··on Embassy: Modern embedded framework, using Rust and async
I was pretty stoked to find this a month ago.

Sadly, I bought an nRF54L15 board to start my embedded journey, which isn't 100% supported yet :/

Now I have to wait. I'm not gonna go back to C :D

k__··on Web Browsers have stopped blocking pop-ups
Brave made this more bearable for me, by blocking cookie banners by default.
k__··on I canceled my book deal
Somehow, I miss the time when I was writing a book. It's nice to do the work and research and also nice to refine. Getting money later without doing much anymore was also cool.

But my consecutive attempts of writing a book failed because of my ADHD and missing guidance. I can't do employment, but I really need someone to "nag" me 2-3 times a month to keep focus.

k__··on I asked AI researchers and economists about SWE career strategies given AI
It all boils down to whether AIs can become more than just correlation engines.
k__··on Fahrplan – 39C3
Honestly, I'm surprised he's still alive.

Hope he gets well soon.

k__··on Spaced repetition for efficient learning (2019)
Yes, me too.

It seems to be a thing with practicing motion sequences.

k__··on Spaced repetition for efficient learning (2019)
Learning to play an instrument feels like magic.

You fail the whole day.

Don't have the feeling anything sticks.

Then, the next day it works right from the start.

No new insights, nothing, it just works.

k__··on Avoid Mini-Frameworks
It's the same with app, application, program, software, tool, etc.
k__··on Garage – An S3 object store so reliable you can run it outside datacenters
Half-OT:

Does anyone know a good open source S3 alternarive that's easily extendable with custom storage backends?

For example, AWS offers IA and Glacier in addition to the defaults.

k__··on I ported JustHTML from Python to JavaScript with Codex CLI and GPT-5.2 in hours
Maybe tape?
k__··on Common Rust Lifetime Misconceptions
How does this lead to confusion?
k__··on The Rise of Computer Games, Part I: Adventure
Terraria and Stardew Valley show that it isn't just about graphics.
k__··on Obscuring P2P Nodes with Dandelion
Yeah.

I had the impression that onion services are exactly that: protection inside the P2P network.

k__··on Size of Life
A week ago, I learned that animals weren't bigger in the past.

Sure, there were dinosaurs that were quite big, but they weren't living all at the same time. So there was maybe a big one, that died out, and the next big one would evolve much later.

As this project shows, the biggest animals and plants are living right now.

Also, we're living in the time with the biggest spiders in history. Somehow they don't get that big on average. Turns out, the high oxygen levels in the past didn't affect arachnid sizes as much as insect sizes.

k__··on Nimony (Nim 3.0) Design Principles
I had the impression, the creator of Nim isn't very fond of academic( solution)s.
k__··on Cloudflare outage on December 5, 2025
"tripping on their own feet" == "not rolling back"
k__··on Launch HN: Phind 3 (YC S22) – Every answer is a mini-app
It did so extensive online search.
k__··on Launch HN: Phind 3 (YC S22) – Every answer is a mini-app
Before it was a fast AI chat that would explain tech stuff and help me with issues.

I used it quite often, even instead of GH Copilot.

Now, it's much slower and has some kind of solution view that gets updated with every new message.

Found myself to resorting to GH Copilot chat quite often today, because Phind felt like a different/worse service.
