jurre··on Microsoft ends support for Windows XP and Office 2003
Except for our government who are paying MS an exorbitant amount of money to keep support up... http://www.zdnet.com/dutch-government-pays-millions-to-exten...
jurre··on Microsoft Open Sources C# Compiler
I really want to like AppCode but I just can't deal with the non-native java UI
jurre··on Alcatraz – Package manager for Xcode 5
Apple has reached out to plug-in developers and implemented a compatibility UUID system for plugins. What exactly are you worried might happen?
jurre··on Alcatraz – Package manager for Xcode 5
What OSX are you on? We're 10.9 only since we're using NSURLSession
jurre··on Alcatraz – Package manager for Xcode 5
There are a lot of really great plugins for Xcode, you should browse the package repository to get an idea of what's out there :)
jurre··on Alcatraz – Package manager for Xcode 5
This is not a replacement for Cocoapods, it manages plugins for Xcode itself, color themes, project templates. That kind of stuff :)
jurre··on SoundCloud Raises $60 Million at $700 Million Valuation
There's much less of a culture of posting other peoples work on soundcloud, it's much more focused on letting artists share their own work.
jurre··on iOS 7 only is the only sane thing to do
It's also really trivial to support both retina and non-retina so I don't understand the point at all..
jurre··on How to interview engineers as a startup
I've interviewed with them for an internship about a year ago and although I didn't end up getting the job, it was a very pleasant experience and I actually learned quite a bit in the process.
jurre··on Date parsing performance on iOS (NSDateformatter vs sqlite)
timegm actually already makes a huge difference, thanks! Might be useful to make a small fast date parsing library based on the sqlite source code.
jurre··on Date parsing performance on iOS (NSDateformatter vs sqlite)
I am, source is here: https://gist.github.com/jurre/6475263

My c is quite poor so if you have any suggestions on how to improve I'd love to hear them!

jurre··on Date parsing performance on iOS (NSDateformatter vs sqlite)
Yeah that would probably be the way to go ultimately if you're doing a lot of date parsing, I agree!
jurre··on Date parsing performance on iOS (NSDateformatter vs sqlite)
I was wondering the same thing since that's also what apple recommends in situations like these. This is what I got on the same hardware:

strptime_l took 58.803 seconds

NSDateFormatter took 107.570 seconds

sqlite3 took 7.022 seconds

And with MishraAnurag's suggestion of using timegm instead of mktime:

strptime_l took 21.656 seconds

NSDateFormatter took 108.163 seconds

sqlite3 took 7.096 seconds

jurre··on Learn X in Y minutes where X = Go
Meh, not really. In ruby `return x, y` is just syntactic sugar for `return [x, y]`, ie returning an array. It's also an indication that you probably need a class.
jurre··on Show HN: Spotify for Independent Music
This looks cool! Is there or will there be an API at some point so I could potentially build native clients?
jurre··on Backbeam: backend-as-a-service for web and mobile developers
USD prices don't include VAT but EUR prices do though
jurre··on Drupal on Docker
I guess Docker brings all of the good stuff you guys have known about for a long time to us mortals :)
jurre··on Tiedot - Your NoSQL document database engine powered by Go
Go seems like a reasonable choice for this type of thing though, doesn't it?
jurre··on GitHub Got Silly Rich. Next Step: 'Make More Awesome'
If you have an active open source presence then you're already using github a lot of the time, personally I don't like switching tools a lot and I guess a lot of people feel similar. Personal preference aside.
jurre··on MySQL man pages silently relicensed away from GPL
It's kind of sad seeing something digging it's own grave like that.
jurre··on Golang 10x faster than Ruby for web APIs
Overkill for an API endpoint that authenticates a user..
jurre··on Buttons with built-in loading indicators
I actually did a similar thing for iOS, I'll try to extract it from that project and open source it when I find time :)
jurre··on Ask HN: do you keep a stash of ideas?
I have a ton of half implemented projects..
jurre··on OHM2013 - a 5 day hacker/maker camp in The Netherlands
Oh this looks great!
jurre··on Poll: Which is your primary text editor?
Are we gonna have one of these every other day now?
jurre··on Poll: What Text Editor Do You Use?
Xcode mostly
jurre··on How To Prototype In Xcode Using Storyboard
AFAIK the reason that this isn't very common in the iOS community is that loading an image is often much faster (performance wise) than drawing a custom UI. What are your experiences with this?
jurre··on Bughub: A native Github Issues client for Mac and iPad
To save everyone some copy/pasting, they've all been redeemed :)
jurre··on Firefox OS phones now available from Geeksphone
Apple USD prices are excluding VAT while EUR prices include that.
