juanmirocks··on Dropbox and Google Cloud integrations
So with this I would be able to edit Google office docs directly from Dropbox / see it in my Dropbox folder?

For our startup tagtog.net this is useful because we like having all centralized into our docker folder and so not miss important documents in other services.

juanmirocks··on Introducing Uber Health, Removing Transportation as a Barrier to Care
I'm extremely excited and happy for any possible innovations that may save lives / improve our health, even if just a little.
juanmirocks··on Machine Learning Crash Course
The Google AI courses are also good for old seasoned ML practitioners who want to learn more about more recent deep learning techniques
juanmirocks··on 10,000 year clock gets lowered into Texan mountain
10,000 years is a LONG time (for our modern civilization, that is).

To me the question is: how will we measure time once we become a multi-planet species?

juanmirocks··on Apple in China: who holds the keys?
Call me a cynic, but I bet China has it all. One way or another.
juanmirocks··on The Nature of Lisp (2006)
Back in 2009, when I first learned Common Lisp, I had the hope Lisp would one day become mainstream. Then in 2012 I had the same hope for Scala.

... I got older and I'm not anymore a dreamer

Legacy code and imperative thinking is heavy.

juanmirocks··on The Death of Microservice Madness in 2018
For my small team of 2, but with an increasingly more complex codebase, the orchestration of (micro)services indeed causes headaches. There is no silver bullet.
juanmirocks··on The Death of Microservice Madness in 2018
I feel you.

I managed to paint my walls, but it took me much more time than expected and my flat was chaos for some weeks thereafter.

juanmirocks··on Rocket Lab successfully launches second Electron booster test flight

juanmirocks··on New Zealand startup successfully launches rocket
This is this company's first launch and as such the company is not known for the general public. Moreover, no Elon Musk-like legend has showed up for RocketLab yet. Therefore, it is pretty comprehensible that this launch has received less coverage.
juanmirocks··on Homebrew 1.5.0
Congratulations to the authors and contributors of Homebrew. Ironically enough, it is one of the most sane Unix package managers, IMO.
juanmirocks··on Cryptocurrency bloodbath continues as Bitcoin falls below $10,000
Yes, I meant after the dollar was disconnected to gold.
juanmirocks··on No, machines can’t read better than humans
Yet.

What machines can do is to amass and discover patterns in huge quantities of data, a complete impossibility for us humans. IBM Watson, although not the most clever technology, won that way. And since then, algorithms have improved massively.

juanmirocks··on Cryptocurrency bloodbath continues as Bitcoin falls below $10,000
Relatively, it's still a very recent technology and still being developed. Just like when gold was first traded and suffered many huge highs & downs, these crypto assets are undergoing the same volatility of sentiments. Still, for the long term, 100% sure we will have fiat currency replaced by crypto currencies in one way or another.
juanmirocks··on No One Wants Used Clothes Anymore
This is eye opening. Although an opinion, and likely far from the current situation, it lays out a trend in the making.

We will need newer better ways for recycle fabrics.

juanmirocks··on iOS 11 Security [pdf]
I think people increasingly do care, and will care more and more.

Some points:

* The revelations of Snowden and all the many hack attacks in the news have impacted the average Joe * Many security experts expect more downfalls in the short future. For instance, cyberwarfare has relatively just begun. * As example, in Germany, people are much more conscious about privacy. * And think now about people who want to secure their crypto assets investments.

All in all, I think Apple is betting properly on security and it will have an economical reward.

juanmirocks··on Understanding the state of Artificial Intelligence academic research (2016)
Because:

* It is linked (vs. a post in a personal blog post which would only be indexed by search engines) * There is a large community of users on Medium, and posts are easy to share. * Medium highlights popular posts.

juanmirocks··on An Experimental Course on Operating Systems
I wonder: is there room for a new OS to truly surpass Linux/Windows ?

I would love to see more commercial success for micro/nano-kernels (vs. the staple monolithic kernels)

juanmirocks··on Understanding the state of Artificial Intelligence academic research (2016)
Poor study IMO. I stopped when I read the

> “Computer Science”, “Mathematics” and “Engineering”, obviously the leaders in research, with respectively 963274, 491191 and 352870 publications.

Why "obvious" ?? I barely think so.

juanmirocks··on Understanding the state of Artificial Intelligence academic research (2016)
Eh... extremely much larger exposure? Those playing the game of posting on Medium and Linkedin are gaining the game of reachability. That's the point of publishing out content.
juanmirocks··on India has a hole where its middle class should be
By all means, I cannot understand how cooking can be more expensive than eating out. The only possible exception is if you value the time spent in cooking much more. This I do, and I basically only drink bulletproof and soylent shakes.
juanmirocks··on India has a hole where its middle class should be
Agreed. From my experience living in Spain and Germany, at least for me and friends, eating out is not the norm. We reserve dinners in restaurants for the weekend only. Often also, we cook together, which is lots of fun. Indians cook together in big groups and I love that part of their culture.
juanmirocks··on India has a hole where its middle class should be
From my very subjective experience, and my long trip around India in 2017, I can agree on all points raised by the Economist article.

The state of education is appalling. And yet at the same time, you see tons of those in the low 90% of the population checking out Facebook in their cheap phones with 4G connectivity.

Either way, my outlook for India is very positive. IMO They need only 1 or 2 more generations to truly rival or even surpass China.

juanmirocks··on Intel Confronts Potential ‘PR Nightmare’ With Reported Chip Flaw
Considering the late Intel problems, Apple is going to be even more tempted to design its own CPUs/GPUs for the mac.

What do you think, is this realistic?

juanmirocks··on Tesla Model 3 Sets New EV Cannonball Run Record
Despite the huge importance of California, this is a global phenomenon. And the lead is in China.
juanmirocks··on Tesla Model 3 Sets New EV Cannonball Run Record
Spot on. I live in Germany and fear for its car industry. Still, I hear good things coming from Audi or even still BMW. Mal sehen.
juanmirocks··on Tesla Model 3 Sets New EV Cannonball Run Record
Arguably, Tesla & Elon Musk already achieved their goal of speeding up the adoption to EVs away from combustion engines: all car companies are working now on or have plans for electric vehicles.

Elon Musk has already succeeded big big time.

juanmirocks··on Spamnesty – A Bot to waste spammers' time
This could easily be one of the “smallest” things to have the greatest impact. Looking forward to reading statistics on how much this software takes in % of total spam time and saved money.
