jtdev··on State of JavaScript 2020
> “In terms of data management, GraphQL holds its position on the top while good-ol Redux kept losing interest.”

Not sure what you mean by “data management” here, but fetch/REST seem like to most predominant, simple, ubiquitous means of handling external data.

jtdev··on Apple reportedly dropped plan for encrypting backups after FBI complained (2020)
But we shouldn't default to "let's compromise data security and privacy because some customers can't keep track of their keys". That would be like a shoe store only selling velcro shoes because some shoe buyers struggle with tying shoe laces...
jtdev··on Senior NASA scientist pleads guilty om China ties
“The defendant faces up to six months in prison”

It seems like this scientist was basically acting as a foreign spy... for which he could face a laughable 6 month sentence? seems far too light of a sentence to deter this behavior in the future.

jtdev··on Helping to secure internet routing
It seems like we should be more focused on the possibility of this being abused rather than asking if it’s been abused yet.
jtdev··on Helping to secure internet routing
Who is the authority on the integrity of routing?
jtdev··on Helping to secure internet routing
Does this give AWS any ability to block/censor or influence access to segments of the internet that they might not politically "approve" of?
jtdev··on Ask HN: Do we need a Google Customers Union? Could it work?
Would be difficult in the U.S. it seems... we’ve allowed corporations to convince an increasingly impoverished population that holding corporations to account is “un-American”.
jtdev··on Joint Chiefs remind U.S. forces that they defend the constitution
Who tf would downvote that??
jtdev··on U.S. to require negative Covid-19 tests for international air passengers
I'm all for this, but I'm somewhat surprised that this isn't being railed as "xenophobic"... wonder why we've suddenly had a change in heart on these topics?
jtdev··on Salesforce says it has 'taken action' to prevent further U.S. political violence
This is cancel culture run amok. At some point these tech organizations need to provide tangible evidence of bad actors actually inciting or encouraging violence. Until we see that, these acts of cancelling are merely virtue signaling, and are becoming rather McCarthy like.
jtdev··on Parler drops offline after Amazon pulls support
Do those downvoting here actually support the sentiment of the Ayatollah??
jtdev··on Parler drops offline after Amazon pulls support
Did you not read the tweet? Seems rather clear to me.
jtdev··on Parler drops offline after Amazon pulls support
Ayatollah posts to Instagram... they don’t seem to care much about that.
jtdev··on Chinese regulators to push tech giants to share consumer credit data
This is how you create “baddies”.
jtdev··on Twitter deletes China embassy's Xinjiang 'emancipation' tweet
The wealth and power of the CCP is directly tied to the success of Chinese business internationally (much like the Cuban Communist regime). Their is no private enterprise in China; the CCP quite literally owns all means of production in China.

I’ll politely refuse your invited to support the CCP (oppressors of the Chinese people) by proxy so as to not upset the people of China - you see how your logic is circular here...?

jtdev··on What Silicon Valley gets about engineers that traditional companies do not
I’m genuinely interested in hearing about any examples of such businesses you might have.
jtdev··on What Silicon Valley gets about engineers that traditional companies do not
In such an environment engineers should be working closely with these subject matter experts... you don’t just put fear in the engineering culture and throw layers of bureaucracy at the engineers.
jtdev··on What Silicon Valley gets about engineers that traditional companies do not
Those companies will die...
jtdev··on Twitter deletes China embassy's Xinjiang 'emancipation' tweet
It would seem that Twitter is fearful of the CCP, and simply removed the tweet rather than engage with the CCP in a more confrontational way like labeling their tweets.
jtdev··on Twitter deletes China embassy's Xinjiang 'emancipation' tweet
That’s entirely false. Less sales from Chinese producers to the U.S. without question weakens the CCP.

Would we have been so flippant about buying products from the third reich???

jtdev··on Twitter deletes China embassy's Xinjiang 'emancipation' tweet
When will our leaders actually condemn China (not some toothless virtue signaling) and stop the flow of money from American consumers to the CCP?

Vote with your wallet, stop buying Chinese products. Stop supporting this clearly evil regime.

jtdev··on Apple has threatened to ban Parler from the App Store
Oh wait... we don’t actually want to learn about history here unless it reinforces our identity politics mindset. Please remember this before posting logical, factual information.
jtdev··on Haskell is a Bad Programming Language (2020)
Functional zealotry seems to be at the core of most problems with Haskell. It’s unfortunate that these concepts keep being shoehorned into numerous other languages.
jtdev··on Permanent suspension of @realDonaldTrump
History has shown that censorship leads to violence in the long-run.
jtdev··on Permanent suspension of @realDonaldTrump
Trump brought immense traffic to Twitter. Jack Dorsey is simply virtue signaling now that he’s reaped everything he can from Trump’s existence on the platform... social media has far too much power, and the heads of these organizations are not your friends.

I do not support or endorse Trump or his cronies.

jtdev··on CO2 already emitted will warm Earth beyond climate targets, study finds
> “as the climate gets asymptotically closer to what it'll eventually settle on?”

Earth’s climate has never and will never “eventually settle” regardless of the existence of humans.

jtdev··on Learn Go in five minutes
> "easier concurrency"

In Node??? Have you actually written any Go code?

jtdev··on Facebook Indefinitely Suspends Trump
Sean King... Still on Twitter, advocated for violence in the name of BLM for months to his > 1 million followers.
jtdev··on Facebook Indefinitely Suspends Trump

jtdev··on Facebook Indefinitely Suspends Trump
I'm sure you were advocating for the silencing of BLM leaders who were encouraging violence during recent months too...
