jswizzy··on Progressive Web Apps Will Replace Native Apps?
The type of Apps I make can't even be done in a browser in the first place.
jswizzy··on Pentagon awards contracts to design mobile nuclear reactor
Nuclear is expensive because of design costs and regulations. Mass production would greatly lower prices. The fact is when I was a nuclear power plant operator the same WOG value you could buy at Home Depot for 10 dollars costs 300 dollars with all the certifications and requirements for safety need in a nuclear plant.
jswizzy··on DARPA Wants Millions to Design an Unmanned 'Flying Gun' Under Its New Gunslinger
DARPA is hardening our infrastructure. They just did a bunch of anti drone experiments in San Diego it was in the news. There were even some UFO articles written about it.
jswizzy··on Surf industry paradox: Surfing, by its nature, contradicts basic capitalism
Some items wear out fast. Climbing shoes have to be replaced or at least resoled yearly.
jswizzy··on Monoliths Are the Future
This is how Military promotions work for officers. No one wants to work smaller projects because performance is measured by "Led X number of troops". I see it as a contractor.
jswizzy··on What is Rust and why is it so popular?
That's how I got Koltin going at my job before it was official with Google.
jswizzy··on List of Prolific Writers
Dumas had a ghost writer or writers
jswizzy··on Software certifications; a waste of time and money (2018)
this is unfortunately true. I meet one too many people who had the certifications for a job but not the skills when I worked as a government scientist. Some people can pass any test you throw at them without retaining or learning a thing.
jswizzy··on A Sad Day for Rust
Depends on how you define web. IOT should be done in low level languages. but yeah I agree that a REST server is better of in something like GO, C#, or JAVA.

jswizzy··on Android programming, looking for good guides for beginners
Android development is a mess. Much of the documentation and resources you will find will be outdated. Last time I looked at the code labs from Google many where already deprecated. The Udacity courses are more current than the offical documentation. I'd recommend Programming Kotlin https://pragprog.com/book/vskotlin/programming-kotlin by Venkat Subramaniam if you don't know Kotlin. It's honestly a bad time to learn Android as the ecosystem is in flux with Jetpack and Kotlin and Android X changing everything up.
jswizzy··on Learn Rust the Dangerous Way
Electrical engineers write plenty of C and assembly where I work.
jswizzy··on Google Street View image of a house predicts car accident risk of its resident
Seems like a good way to legally discriminate against the poor and minorities. /s
jswizzy··on Generating a Java program with 90% less code
Sorry, Android doesn't have all of Java 8 and it's mostly Kotlin now.
jswizzy··on Generating a Java program with 90% less code
MVI is the latest evolution of MVVM. It's basically MVVM with Reactive programming.
jswizzy··on Talent May Be Shifting Away from Superstar Cities: Study
You guys are having a martian conversation for those of us who live in the States. Not driving is only an option in a handful of cities like NYC.
jswizzy··on Talent May Be Shifting Away from Superstar Cities: Study
I work in defense contracting and version control is either non existent or dated at most companies. I've gotten very good at selling git to management.
jswizzy··on FedEx responds to The New York Times article from Nov. 17, 2019
I don't trust the New York Times. They lost credibility a long time ago.
jswizzy··on Ask HN: Do you write tests before the implementation?
From what I understand about TDD it's more about getting the design right then testing for bugs.
jswizzy··on Apple commits $2.5B to combat housing crisis in California
Yes I don't see how making more money available is gonna cause prices to go down. Isn't it simple supply and demand? Now there is more money that housing investors and realtors can grab.
jswizzy··on Gitlab: don't discuss politics at work
When was it ever okay to discuss politics at work?
jswizzy··on Uber lays off around 350 more across Eats, self-driving and other departments
3-5 emails a day is nothing special. Recruiters spam your inbox and phone no matter where you live.
jswizzy··on The Nobel Peace Prize 2019
I don't think she really has done enough to deserve it. To me it seems like it is forced and just pushed to lend creditably to an obvious political puppet. The poor girl is being used and obvious is abused by her parents.
jswizzy··on Blizzard Suspends Professional Hearthstone Player for Hong Kong Comments
If you think that is scary look at who owns our defense industries now that the pre Clinton era small contractors were forced to merge.
jswizzy··on Attorney General will ask Zuckerberg to halt plans for end-to-end encryption
They did such a great job with Epstein too. Letting him go free for all those years and protecting him and then he suddenly dies when he is gonna name people in Government and the Royal family.
jswizzy··on YouTube demonetizing videos where LGBTQ keywords are said

We have politicians now saying they want to ban private health insurance.
