The total consideration for San Francisco-based Instagram is approximately $1 billion in a combination of cash and shares of Facebook. The transaction, which is subject to customary closing conditions, is expected to close later this quarter.
When CarrierIQ was dubbed one of the Fierce 15, they were working with seven of the top ten major OEM’s, as well as Verizon Wireless, AT&T, and Sprint. Currently, Trevor has found CarrierIQ in a number of Sprint phones, including HTC and Samsung Android devices. CarrierIQ is confirmed to be found on the iPhone or on feature phones, but Trevor has found RIM’s Blackberry handsets and several Nokia devices with CarrierIQ on board as well.
But that was a passing mention and I haven't found anywhere else to back up that claim.
If you haven't read the book (you should): Apparats: It’s a wonderful invention that ranks everybody. When I enter a bar in downtown Manhattan, my entire history is broadcast to everybody, and immediately everyone knows I’m the eighteenth ugliest man in the room but I have the fourth-best credit rating.

Groupon floated a record-low percentage of its total outstanding shares among U.S. Internet companies, helping to stoke demand. Only 4.7 percent of the stock was made available to the public, based on the offering terms. That’s less than in any U.S. Internet company IPO of more $200 million since at least 2000, Bloomberg data show.

He told me he began to appreciate the power of intuition, in contrast to what he called “Western rational thought,” when he wandered around India after dropping out of college. “The people in the Indian countryside don’t use their intellect like we do,” he said. “They use their intuition instead … Intuition is a very powerful thing, more powerful than intellect, in my opinion. That’s had a big impact on my work.”
Also, nitpicking here, but for (at least some) New Yorkers it is confusing for a site called Midtown Row to open with a giant image of a prominent SoHo intersection.
Edit - the page you linked to has that image. Didn't notice I wasn't on the index.
Arrington: 'I don’t claim to be a journalist,' Mr. Arrington said, though he breaks news and writes prolifically. 'I hold myself to higher standards of transparency and disclosure.'
Armstrong (could have been more careful with his phrasing): 'TechCrunch is a different property and they have different standards', said Tim Armstrong, chief executive of AOL, in an interview. 'We have a traditional understanding of journalism with the exception of TechCrunch, which is different but is transparent about it.'
After that the bloggers started coming to us.
People also did seem to like our video as an 'outrageous' pitch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACh-FqQqU4Q
Right now you can get Galaxy Tab from verizon with a 2 year data contract for 199. So the idea exists..but do people want 2 year contracts for a 2nd device with their carrier?
Even then - you need a phone. You don't need a tablet. I think aside from the operating systems, you're really looking at two entirely different situations

- The plain simple language bullet admits that of course there will always be legalese
- Real support. I've never had trouble at any hour getting a human being on the phone, empowered to deal with my issues. Facetiming or Skyping with my bank? I really don't see the point.
- Mobile from the ground up - Chase has great mobile apps that allow you to deposit checks by taking a photo. I believe other banks do as well and it seems like this will probably be pretty standard going forward.
- No fees. In four years I've been hit with a surprise fee once. It has been resolved.
"We provide access to the largest fee-free nationwide ATM network and our mobile app will locate an ATM closest to your current location." Not sure what that network is but is it more ATMs than Chase or BofA or Wells Fargo have?
Senator Carl Levin, releasing the findings of a two-year inquiry yesterday, said he wants the Justice Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission to examine whether Goldman Sachs violated the law by misleading clients who bought the complex securities known as collateralized debt obligations without knowing the firm would benefit if they fell in value.
The Michigan Democrat also said federal prosecutors should review whether to bring perjury charges against Goldman Sachs Chief Executive Officer Lloyd Blankfein and other current and former employees who testified in Congress last year. Levin said they denied under oath that Goldman Sachs took a financial position against the mortgage market solely for its own profit, statements the senator said were untrue.

I think language matters equally as much - especially if you have primary and secondary text in the button - but these are all hunches, hence the testing. Found a ~80% uplift with 99% confidence just by flipping the primary and secondary text of a button on our homepage (not our primary landing pages) last week. Testing color variations on the improved text now.
source: http://www.formstack.com/the-anatomy-of-a-perfect-landing-pa... (note I don't agree with all of this but there is a good color breakdown). also had some real world advice given to me from a convo with a 500 startups founder a few months back related to orange.
I wonder what the reason for sticking that option over there is? If it had been on the app's settings/profile tab I would have set it a while ago.
The Wiki article is in the context of Marxism; I never learned this concept from that POV but the concept holds.
It's interesting to see the roles different technologies have played in these waves. Go back to 1848 and the industrial revolution and resulting urbanization are certainly one of many causes.
SMS played a key organizing role in the Color revolutions, especially in Ukraine. And now we're seeing Twitter/Facebook play a role. I think some people are exaggerating that role, but the role is there.
The whole premise of this piece doesn't make sense to me - coffee, whatever else is in Redbull - provide energy, not focus. That energy can be used to focus on something you don't want to focus upon. You also can let your mind wander at the frenetic pace stimulants like coffee, ADHD meds and others facilitate. So back to the beginning - Jonah Lehrer is very good at nicely framing a point that he isn't actually making.
