joshlegs··on Ggplot2 for python
heh, no worries. thanks for the link.
joshlegs··on Ggplot2 for python
hm. i've never even heard of R .... it's a graphing library ??

Also, seems like that's a lot of dependencies for ggplot2. I'm wondering if this is really worth switching off of matplotlib. Sounds like all it's really doing is changing the method that you call ?

joshlegs··on What is it like to be a mathematician?
i'm pretty sure that title should be "mathemagician", cuz that shit is freakin mysterious
joshlegs··on Soon, Drones May Be Able to Make Lethal Decisions on Their Own
So, what you're saying is "Eagle Eye" might come true soon then?
joshlegs··on The Georgia Tech Online Master of Science in CS is now accepting applications
heh. > It's unlikely that you're a brilliant student because you chose to study journalism. I made the same mistake.

i don't see the line of logic there, but oh well.

i just signed up with the course era python course, and i'll probably do a few more of those courses. So you think several of those in conjunction with full time programming will get me ready for a master's (or any other degree?) in a year or so?

joshlegs··on The Georgia Tech Online Master of Science in CS is now accepting applications
i would love to apply to grad school to get a CS degree (or even get a second bachelor's). The problems are that my bachelor's is in journalism, and my cumulative GPA was only 2.9. And I've only had a year of professional programming experience :(
joshlegs··on Apple Under Siege
>I consider him the greatest creator and editor of products this industry has ever known,

are you effing serious? Greatest creator my ass. He took already built products and refined the hell out of them. Shit, he practically built the company on top of Wozniak's back.

joshlegs··on W3C green-lights adding DRM to the Web's standards
the hell? What were they thinking when they decided this would be a good idea ??
joshlegs··on The Arsenic DNA paper exposes flaws in peer review
peer-review scientific analysis has been an issue for some time if you ask me. As the guy points out, all you have to do is find a few people already receptive to your idea. I'm not really sure why "peer-review" is so lofty a concept anyway.
joshlegs··on After 180 Websites, I’m Ready to Start the Rest of My Life as a Coder
Whhen i first started coding, i thought i had to go revisit all my math classes that i had forgotten. Still i have that same problem. When picking up a new api or something, instead of learning just how to use it quickly, i end up trying to learn a lot of its nuances first :S
joshlegs··on Time for Gates to go, some top Microsoft investors tell board
I liked Gates' quote about both of them getting stealing from their rich neighbor Xerox. To be fair, that's all Apple really ever did -- take existing ideas and refine the hell out of them.
joshlegs··on Time for Gates to go, some top Microsoft investors tell board
heh. i just watched Pirates of Silicon Valley the other day. Such a good movie. Gave me a lot of perspective on both Microsoft and Apple.

would suck to see Bill go. But I guess it will have to happen sooner or later. Idk how much he influences direction any more anyway.

joshlegs··on Lavabit needs your help to fight for the right to keep emails private
> What if you filed for bankruptcy, and your emails to your lawyer became public, humiliating your family?

bankruptcies are public anyway.

joshlegs··on Programming is a Terrible Job
protip: every job is like this. I went into journalism because i LOVED reading and writing. Making it a career sapped the fun out of it. Now i'm coding professionally. It's much more fun than the pressures of journalism, but I do find myself sometimes thinking "this was more fun when I did it just for the heck of it"
joshlegs··on Tessel: The end of web development as we know it
anything but javascript!
joshlegs··on Periodic Table Of States
.... i absolutely read this as "US states" .... now i feel really dumb

joshlegs··on NASA paywalls first papers arising from Curiosity rover – I am setting them free
ah. was not aware. now i feel like douche. will delete original because of ignorance.

> While musicians don't get much from the average record sale, scientists get exactly nothing.

actually, that is exactly true. Scientists make $0 off of record sales. :D

joshlegs··on Give Manning and Snowden the Nobel Peace Prize
agreed. Manning is a totally different story, I think. The stuff he released didn't do much to protect innocent people, etc. Snowden I could stand behind.

That said, it would be just awesome if Manning got the Nobel Peace Prize, just, what, 5 years after Obama did?

joshlegs··on GitHub was down
does github really count as a startup still? they're not inducted into programmatic canon yet?
joshlegs··on The Pixar Theory
Oy. I've seen this now on two other social media. and twice on here. :( i am disappoint

joshlegs··on Hacker News Folks Get Long Overdue Thanks

joshlegs··on Ask HN: Has anyone here self-published a book? Any advice?

joshlegs··on Google 'down,' let's do an experiment
Yeah it's back up for me now too. CNN had an article on it, funnily enough. They are headquartered in Atlanta though so they probably all got hit with the outage. Seems the southeast and comcast users were hit hardest
joshlegs··on Google 'down,' let's do an experiment
I saw a G+ blog on it briefly as i got a search result to work. Here's the link. good luck reading it. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd...

joshlegs··on The future of Ruby, Rubynation 2013
I think there's a lot to be said for tongue-in-cheek humor. Maybe it's not for everybody though.
