joshbaptiste··on Big News for ZFS on Linux
Depends on which mailing list you read, the usual consensus I see is it's kinda production ready, though openSUSE has switched to Btrfs as its main file system.

joshbaptiste··on El Chapo, Escaped Drug Lord, Has Been Recaptured
No need to apologize, I get where your coming from, good or bad leaders are glorified in some form or another, especially in organized crime.
joshbaptiste··on FreeBSD Jails the hard way
Doesn't matter really, with all the complaints, ramblings of systemd.. system admins will be forced to move to systemd. An admin has no choice since the company they work for runs it's entire stack on GNU/Linux and will not switch to another OS because of an init system.
joshbaptiste··on Partial kernel bypass merged into netmap master
Great summation, although I read all of it before I had to recap. It's great that Cloudflare is open sourcing their work on the bypass network kernel space and we can be assured about how it holds in in production since they have the platform to battle test on.

joshbaptiste··on Apache Kafka 0.9 is released
Hence why I use Groovy for any Kafka endeavors.
joshbaptiste··on You should try FreeBSD (2014)
BSD Jails were built with security in mind, LXC is now improving the security model as the prominence of Docker has shed light on it.
joshbaptiste··on The Sparkling Programming Language
Looks great and straight forward, just need a syntax.vim plugin and off to races with Sparkling for me.
joshbaptiste··on Dropbox API v2 launches
Tarsnap runs fine under Cygwin.
joshbaptiste··on Rosetta finds oxygen on comet 67P in 'most surprising discovery to date'
Very cool, planning and calculating a trajectory for a machine to land on a moving comet 10 years in the future and retrieve data is truly an astonishing feat.
joshbaptiste··on Nucleon, a dynamic TCP load balancer written in Rust
hmm.. nice and small .. trying this out now for some internal socks5 hacks
joshbaptiste··on Embed Linkedin profile page to see who visited your website
Love this, and this is similar to how I surf,

Chrome + umatrix = Legit news and Google sites
  Opera = Facebook, Instagram
Firefox + FoxyProxy + Ghostery + noscript = Shady places
joshbaptiste··on New Chromecast 2015
And it sells and works very well with that niche. I know many non-techie people who just love their CC's for quickly transferring videos or images from their phones.
joshbaptiste··on Persistent “pipes” in Linux

joshbaptiste··on Linux-insides: System calls in the Linux kernel, Part 3
Oh very interesting indeed, when using strace, or sysdig I notice many daemonized threaded programs calling gettimeofday() frequently, it's good to know in Linux it doesn't incur a context switch with the vdso architecture.
joshbaptiste··on Cracking a 250-Year-Old Code to Reveal a Secret Society (2012)
Indeed.. the author breaks down in laymen terms how the cipher was broken and the journey to breaking made this piece a very good read.
joshbaptiste··on Show HN: Event-driven, user-space and highly-scalable TCP/IP stack [pdf]
Rusty is the name of the TCP/IP stack that was developed to increase the throughput of the traffic simulator. The software is written using the C++ programming language.

Awes, I was hoping (due to the name) that it would be written in Rust.

joshbaptiste··on Mobile TCP optimization – lessons learned in production
Amazing their how much data they can process by side stepping the kernel and building their own custom TCP stack in userspace. Think the BSD folks are on top of such technology of have a TCP stack completely in userspace.. great presentation.
joshbaptiste··on ABCs of IBM z/OS System Programming Volume 1
Airline GDS such a Sabre are on such systems.
joshbaptiste··on Gotty – Share your terminal as a web application
hmm.. uses hterm.js under the hood for the JS terminal, wonder how that compares to term.js.. very cool project indeed.
joshbaptiste··on Bash Pitfalls
Everything I know of bash I learned from Freenode irc #bash channel who have a very active bot that always points to this wiki, so many scripts at work I see the dreaded

  for i in `ls`; do...
Which only works due to the fact that we hardly have any files with spaces, newlines etc..
joshbaptiste··on Angr – A framework for analyzing binaries
oh very nice.. one sec while I check the EULA of this binary.
joshbaptiste··on OpenSSH 7.0 released
Yep, major version number changes usually bring about excitement to view what's new...
joshbaptiste··on Q(): Powerful debug printing in Python
Great library indeed.. thanks for this
joshbaptiste··on SQLite Release 3.8.11.1
Great, write up convinced me to use Sqlite instead of Mysql for a simple in-house webpage.
joshbaptiste··on [dead]
Just wondering how such a ban could be enforced at another location, not like they have Starbucks face recognition or something... shrug
joshbaptiste··on Dynamic port forwarding using SSH, SOCKS5 and a VPS
I Just use foxyproxy in Firefox or Chrome for fast proxy switching, good write up overall, never heard of "ufw" iptables friendlier frontend script, I will try it out.
joshbaptiste··on GoFundMe Founders Sell a Majority Stake
Just to point out that having a "stable" job tends to make me not try harder to push my own ideas.
joshbaptiste··on GoFundMe Founders Sell a Majority Stake
Heh.. every time I read one of these 30 somethings founders (as I am) striking it rich on some buy out deal etc.. I think to myself, why the f%$k am I still cranking behind this desk? Then I return to work the next day oblivious and pretty much content sigh...
