joshbaptiste··on Does OO really match the way we think (1997) [pdf]
famed Youtube programmer Brian Will also dislikes OO https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QM1iUe6IofM&t=2096s
joshbaptiste··on Launch HN: 70MillionJobs (YC S17) – Job board for people with criminal records
Your friend just needs to say he was doing consultant work for himself during these periods.
joshbaptiste··on Ask HN: What is your password management solution?

joshbaptiste··on Best Practices for Building a Microservice Architecture
Indeed this was a great read, felt like i was reading the O'Reilly Microservices book all summed down into a blog.

joshbaptiste··on Facebook is an attack on the open web
ah a "Why FB is evil" article, here come the slew of HN'ers to proclaim their deletion of FB years ago. I myself have no issues with the social network, I keep up with friends, family and it isn't a time suck for me anymore than HN.
joshbaptiste··on Ask HN: Good Go codebases to read?
Honorable mention of https://www.goinggo.net/

William is one of the Authors of "Go in Action" and a great teacher.

E492: Not an editor command: Wq
sigh Story of my life
joshbaptiste··on TFS: A file system built for performance, space efficiency, and scalability
Exactly, BcacheFS, HAMMER2 are other file-systems that are being worked on by some REALLY good programmers for years and years to come. It seems like a file-system takes longer to stabilize than a kernel.
joshbaptiste··on Ask HN: In the next 5 years which markets will grow the most and why?
All I need is a browser and a terminal since my development environment consists only of tmux/vim via Crouton chroots and Plex Web/Youtube/Google Music for entertainment.
joshbaptiste··on Ask HN: In the next 5 years which markets will grow the most and why?
I see the browser becoming the OS period. I didn't realize this until I got a ChromeBook and realized (with crouton) I can do everything I normally do on my Linux notebook.
joshbaptiste··on Ask HN: What's your working day like?
Legitimate question as it was also quite surprising for me to see a firefighter respond to an ask HN. Though op does have apps in the app store and tinkers with Python so this is their hobby I take it.
joshbaptiste··on Kodi: Open source TV app inspires full-blown copyright panic in the UK
I knew these pirate IPTV streams were in trouble when I noticed people springing up everywhere wanting to buy Amazon TV sticks to have it "hacked" to include Kodi streaming plugins. There's actually a market for pre-loaded Amazon TV sticks with Kodi.
joshbaptiste··on The Evolution of Container Usage at Netflix
Ditto, for this case I youtube-dl prior and watch on mobile VLC
joshbaptiste··on [dead]
How much money can your site make by placing it behind a CDN to help with HN traffic spikes.
joshbaptiste··on Espresso – Google’s peering edge architecture
Yep.. the CEO of Fastly has some cool presentations on YouTube of their SDN configuration which does away with the traditional router/switch combination for the switch/SDN server combo, which provides a much smarter network at a fraction of the cost. The only caveat is your engineers need to understand and tube the SDN software stack from the network card to the kernel.
joshbaptiste··on Why F.E.A.R.’s AI is still the best in first-person shooters
The best FPS AI I've played was the PC game "No One Lives Forever" back in 2000, created by this same studio Monolith Productions.
joshbaptiste··on Hacking DNA: CRISPR, Ken Thompson, and the Gene Drive
sigh for the life of me I never remember the expanded acronym of CRISPR off the top of my head.
joshbaptiste··on Own your identity (2011)
The only thing I can think of when paying for your own domain name and/or email service is what happens when you eventually die? Corporations can outlive human beings hence keeping our content online for the foreseeable future.
joshbaptiste··on Simple command-line snippet manager, written in Go
Very cool, just need to add a centralized server feature, might have to fork this and try that.
joshbaptiste··on PEP 308 and why I still hate Python
I rarely see PEP 308 in code bases
joshbaptiste··on Show HN: Gitly.io – high performance Git service with a 10s installation time
no issue with the name.. small and I can easily differentiate from other hosting services.
joshbaptiste··on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Review
Woah, thanks for this link, never heard of Cupheads before but now it's a definite day one buy.
joshbaptiste··on Writing an Interpreter in Go: The Paperback Edition
Purchased an ebook copy (jfltech), while I will likely use Nim for my future toy language, this will help me immensely.
joshbaptiste··on WhatsApp launches Status, an encrypted Snapchat Stories clone
The problem is my mom, and non-technical friends are NOT on Telegram, so Whatsapp it is for the foreseeable future.
