joshbaptiste··on Ask HN: System76 Laptop with Pop _OS as an Alternative to a Macbook for Dev?
I mean for myself a recent Chromebook that supports Android/Linux containers is good enough for my Vim/Python/Go work flow.
joshbaptiste··on WTF – A personal information dashboard for your terminal
indeed.. I don't do much more then the casual searching on DuckDuckGo and viewing Wikipedia articles and StackOverflow errors.
joshbaptiste··on WTF – A personal information dashboard for your terminal
Natted VPS's are usually very cheap (~$5/year) are low on resources by design and are great for pure terminal workflows.
joshbaptiste··on WTF – A personal information dashboard for your terminal
Familiarity and low resources needed .. I can use a $5/year natted VPS and program (via Git/Vim), run scripts, surf the web (links), chat on IRC (Weechat) and continue my Tmux/Screen workflow on basically any *nix machine with at least ~16MB memory.
joshbaptiste··on How Uber, Facebook and Netflix Do SSH
Actually I didn't know about the Facebook and Uber authentication model .. Google's I read before (here I think).
joshbaptiste··on BPF Performance Tools: Linux System and Application Observability
I have multiple books of the same subjects Python, Go, FreeBSD etc.. due to different writing styles and explanations, so for me to grok BPF tracing techniques and performance evaluation at a higher level I would need to read both.
joshbaptiste··on Rust as the New C Part 1: Building and Combining Native Libs into C API
Corporate heavyweights no.. but super smart people on the forums https://forum.nim-lang.org/ and its creator https://github.com/Araq
joshbaptiste··on Rust as the New C Part 1: Building and Combining Native Libs into C API
hmm I actually see Zig as more of the "new C" and Rust, Go, Nim as more of C++ displacements.
joshbaptiste··on I’m not saving ninety percent of my income for myself
Once he placed the ring on her finger he accepted her terms .. as an American who hasn’t grown up with Asian cultural norms I would never marry someone with an obligation to take care of their parents also in America.
joshbaptiste··on Understanding the fork system call in Unix
Thanks, the site itself can no longer fork ;)
joshbaptiste··on The Road to Zig 1.0 [video]
Hmm.. never heard of Chariot Solutions yet they have a lot of technical presentation videos for my consumption, thanks.
joshbaptiste··on Lys, a language that compiles to WebAssembly
Is Lys pronounced as in "bliss" or "Lice" ?
joshbaptiste··on The Zig Programming Language
Andrew does post YouTube videos of his coding sessions which teaches me a lot of Zig and gives me pointers on using Vim as an overall IDE https://www.youtube.com/user/superjoe30
joshbaptiste··on Docker Hub Hacked – 190k accounts, GitHub tokens revoked, builds disabled
Exactly.. life in general is about constant refinement.. if today's hacker could time travel to 1999, she would be in a nirvana of Bind, SSHv1, Apache, IIS etc.. vulnerabilities. Hacks happen and we learn and improve, even down to the language being used.. a la Rust.
joshbaptiste··on Boeing MAX production cut signals long grounding
ah thanks
joshbaptiste··on Boeing MAX production cut signals long grounding
The 737MAX was designed to compete with A320NEO .. why Did Boeing have to move the engines forward while Airbus did not ? AFAIK the NEOs weren’t a complete redesign either
joshbaptiste··on Implementing a NES Emulator in Rust
argh.. fixed again thx
joshbaptiste··on Implementing a NES Emulator in Rust
oops fixed.. thx
joshbaptiste··on Implementing a NES Emulator in Rust
Implementing an NES emulator is a great way to learn more about a language and the internals of the NES (which is well documented). It's sorta like a rite of passage and has been done in most of the "newer" languages like Nim (https://github.com/def-/nimes) , Go (https://github.com/fogleman/nes)

joshbaptiste··on Ask HN: Best Command-Line Applications?
It relies on Google’s translation API in GCP which isn’t free but does have a trial period. I assume YouTube would also rely on this service internally for auto captions.

joshbaptiste··on Walmart Requires Lettuce, Spinach Suppliers to Join Blockchain
Nope, a blockchain would serve a good purpose to have disparate entities share immutable data with event history, as today most companies are not giving each other access to their respective databases.
joshbaptiste··on Introduction to HAProxy ACLs

joshbaptiste··on Intel Announces Optane DIMMs
I found this PDF to be very helpful, explaining the general use case of persistent memory programming.

joshbaptiste··on Intel Announces Optane DIMMs
hehe .. indeed, the Linus you were expecting would have been a mailing list post.
joshbaptiste··on MacOS command line version of the WireGuard VPN is now available for testing
ah gotcha.. ok I'll setup wreguard tonight as there is really no need to route everything via a "tun0" if I don't need to anyway, when I think about it.
joshbaptiste··on MacOS command line version of the WireGuard VPN is now available for testing
Indeed.. There's no way at "OlderCorp" where I work would be able to move to this "YOLO BeyondCorp" public ip everything, we would be owned in seconds.
