joshbaptiste··on How to troubleshoot hanging requests on IIS in 3 steps
Heh, I doubt much of the HN crowd runs IIS in their stack.. good to know just in case I guess.

joshbaptiste··on Why aren't you commenting your code?
Anyone have an example of well commented source code?
joshbaptiste··on Linux Mint Debian 201303 released
Currently my second favorite distro behind Arch..

brief history..

1999 - Slackware Loved compiling everything and troubleshooting

2004 - Fedora 2 - Blown away when I saw how easy it was to install packages via RPM

2007 - Debian (Sarge?) - Blown away when I used apt* for the first time and dependencies just auto magically installed

2011 - Linux Mint - Looked like *buntu without the extra cruft.

2012/13 - Arch - reminds me of my Slack days where less magic happening under the hood but with great package management tools.

If you own a Roku and install Twonky media server, you can beam (watch) the videos on your flat screen, from your smartphone.

joshbaptiste··on Show HN: Incorporate your startup online with YC's forms (built by two lawyers)
Exactly! Seriously I do not care what theme is used, it could look like Craigslist for all I care, as long as it scratches an itch I have I will use it.
joshbaptiste··on Mark Cuban: How I Built My Empire
paywalled article
joshbaptiste··on Cryptography Is Dead?
Heh, first thing I did was head to HN comments ready to skip this article as "link-baity" indeed, after reading your comments I had a read and agree this is a good read after all.
joshbaptiste··on Linux Performance Analysis and Tools and Methodologies
I consider the Joyent (Ex-Sun guys) the gods of Unix based operating systems, just reading how they ported KVM from Linux -> Illumos displays their deep understanding of what is going on under the hood. Seriously if you want to be an above average Unix system administrator, consider learning and using Dtrace with Solaris/OpenIndiana as it will improve your troubleshooting skills immensely with *nix in general. I just wish it existed in GNU/Linux (yea, yea Oracle is trying this, but still very incomplete atm), and Linux based SystemTap just does not feel as awesome as Dtrace.

joshbaptiste··on Ask HN: Anybody use BancBox?
http://www.hnsearch.com/search#request/all&q=bancbox
joshbaptiste··on Screen or Tmux? Both
"A lot of Tmux guides include telling you how to convert it to use ctrl-a as well. Don’t do this."

I do this, simply ctrl-b is just a pain combination to input constantly compared to cntrl-a.

joshbaptiste··on Single Page Web Applications - part one
Python guy here, who is looking to build a client side MVC app and so far Ember and Angular are my top 2 choices because their docs were just easier to follow (especially for JS noob such as myself) any insight on why OP chose knockout?
joshbaptiste··on Why You’re Failing to Realize Your Potential as a Developer
Good article, yet do not fret, an average developer with great ideas and execution can churn out a money making product thus hire developer rock stars to scale and improve your average code.
joshbaptiste··on Why you need a home lab to keep your job
Yep, having your own personal lab allows you to do what you want and can actually be a sort of pretest bed for applications and/or hardware you want to recommend for your employer.
joshbaptiste··on Use long flags when scripting
heh.. I have never thought of that. I basically script exactly how I construct commands in the cmd line, but the author is correct looking at my past bash scripts it would be better to use long options, good stuff.

joshbaptiste··on Show HN: Demiba - Get the most out of YouTube music
Been using http://www.mytubio.com/ for my tube mix parties.. I'll try this service, It would be great if there was a way to ensure videos are from VEVO and not a user submitted video that simply displays the lyrics.

joshbaptiste··on Are you an IT pro? It's no longer safe to bet your career on Microsoft
It wasn't safe the minute my local supermarket cashier told me he was MCSE 2000 certified a couple of years ago.
joshbaptiste··on Show HN: I got tired of using whatsapp and Facebook Messenger, so I wrote my own
Indeed.. the usefulness of Whatsapp is the fact that one can talk to friends on most devices ios/Android/BB/Windows/Nokia/Symbian. Anything else ,security, annoyances etc.. are easily ignored by non-techies.

joshbaptiste··on Show HN: Hosting my WordPress blog entirely on Amazon S3
Holy cow, $60/month for one VPS strictly used for educational projects? You can find and build 10 VPS's (US based) on http://www.lowendbox.com for less than that, granted you wont be on Amazon's network, but for small projects and testing distributed services they are great.
joshbaptiste··on Debug a running node process
Initially thought this would have dove into debugging using Dtrace node.js probes, but oh well useful nonetheless.
