jorjordandan··on Next.js 2.0
The link is wrong for the Koa server example. It points to the Hapi example, it should point here: https://github.com/zeit/next.js/tree/master/examples/custom-...
jorjordandan··on CacheP2P – Distributed caching platform
Would it be possible to make a completely serverless webpage? Or a website that has a server to bootstrap, but all assets are 100% distributed?
jorjordandan··on The real Soylent sickness
Predictable reactionary article. Did they claim there was something wrong with the philosophy of people who produce spinach when that caused massive outbreaks of e-coli? Or blame the modernity of beef producers when mad-cow disease broke out?

Our culture is full of manufactured food that doesn't even attempt to provide nutrition. While it would be lovely if we could all eat out of our own private gardens and vineyards, something like soylent seems like a step in the right direction.

jorjordandan··on Lost Diamonds: How our current system is failing underprivileged talent
He got a second chance where most people in his position wouldn't. He got lucky - his point is that most people don't get a second chance. Also, I think more than the facts of the matter, he's talking about the feeling of not being able to mess up even once. Also the fact that he was haunted by that one mistake - not getting some trivial forms in on time could have ruined his life. Pretty harsh if you think about it.
jorjordandan··on Sunspring, a short science fiction film written by algorithm
to be fair, I felt pretty much the same as I did at the end of Primer
jorjordandan··on Show HN: The missing Oculus Home user reviews site
Oculus Home has no user reviews, so people getting their rifts have no way to see what other customers think of the available games and experiences. I built this so that the VR community can share their opinions. Pretty basic, but I'll add features if people post more reviews :)
jorjordandan··on We are ruthless on code reviews
This reminds me of people who say, "People don't like me because I'm so honest." No, people don't like you because you lack basic empathy.
jorjordandan··on The New Google Logo and Kerning
I'm pretty sure google isn't "anti-design"
jorjordandan··on The New Google Logo and Kerning
I must admit like google's version better... That space between the O and L looks waaaay too far out to me. I guess it's pretty subjective.
jorjordandan··on Building a better WordPress
Meteor is not tied to any single front end technology, nor is it a front end technology. It has an optional templating system, but lots of people are using react now instead. I love meteor, but using meteor with wordpress sounds like a nightmare. I think it was probably suggested more as an alternative.

jorjordandan··on Most Down-Voted Stack Overflow Questions
For some reason some of these have tons of UPVOTES like the question about formatting Javascript dates. Something went wrong somewhere!

Actually several of the questions have a bunch of upvotes. Certainly more than I've ever gotten on SO...

jorjordandan··on Introducing Pebble Time
Huh. When I ask my name, it says "Your name is <name>. That's what you told me, anyway."

Seems a lot more suspicious of me for some reason..

jorjordandan··on An Open Letter to Tim Cook Regarding the App Store 70/30 Revenue Split
Hey guys, Fake Tim Cook here. Just thought I'd chime in.

Here at Apple we pride ourselves on our developer friendly ecosystem. Apple has led the way in creating more value for developers. Plus, we have a monopoly on the developing for iOS, so it looks like you pretty much have to do whatever we say. Between you and me, we could change the split to 50/50 and it wouldn't really hurt us any.

It may not seem like a lot of money is at stake to you guys, but we didn't build a collosal mountain of cash by participating in race-to-the-bottom economics. Our pricing scheme was built to get developers to our platform. It was probably too generous, but we can't go back now, until we finish going thermonuclear on android.

Pretty soon we will have enough money to buy Earth. The new earth will be the best earth yet, redesigned from the literal ground up. Till then, we have to deal with pesky problems like robot, er android, or whatever. Anyways, keep cranking out those golden apps.

My benevolent smile be upon you,

Fake Time Cook

jorjordandan··on My Love-Hate Relationship with Stack Overflow
As users of stack overflow, product hunt, & hacker news, we have to subject ourselves to the tyranny of the upvote. We have effectively banished unpopular questions and ideas. Or great ideas conveyed in an unpopular manner.

Unfortunately, there is no better way to self-organize and moderate large masses of user generated information..

jorjordandan··on RapidShare is Shutting down
I like the "187,864 users trusted rapidshare in the last hour" in the bottom left corner of the announcement...nice touch lol
jorjordandan··on Several thousand MongoDBs without access control on the Internet [pdf]
I meant they are definitely not meteor tutorials.
jorjordandan··on Several thousand MongoDBs without access control on the Internet [pdf]
they are probably all Meteor tutorials.
jorjordandan··on A Scientific Family
Remember to spellcheck, nasa.
jorjordandan··on Decomposing the Human Palate with Matrix Factorization
educational and funny, great intro to matrix factorization. Thanks!
jorjordandan··on Curry On Prague 2015: Academia and industry need to have a talk
Fair enough. I would definitely drink some beer if I went there. Some of my favourite beers are czech.
jorjordandan··on Curry On Prague 2015: Academia and industry need to have a talk
So why not say 'have a few glasses of wine'? Guys like wine.

jorjordandan··on Nazi Monks Against the Panama Canal (2012)
Wait... Nazi monks in the Amazon... is this guerrilla marketing for a new Wolfenstien game?
jorjordandan··on Curry On Prague 2015: Academia and industry need to have a talk
Why does every tech conference site have to mention drinking beers? I like beer as much as the next guy, which is kind of the problem. It sorta seems like conferences feel like they gotta bro it up.
jorjordandan··on Harvard stores 700 terabytes of data into a single gram of DNA (2012)
That is a great philosophical question! To answer it you might have to consider, What is philosophy? and, What is data?, and What is information?
jorjordandan··on Harvard stores 700 terabytes of data into a single gram of DNA (2012)
It's weird when you read about tech advances that are so profound, you have to stop and consider the philosophical implications. I have a dime on my desk that probably weighs 2 grams... something that small could contain more raw data than a person could possibly read in their entire life... that could contain 1.4 million hours of cd quality audio. Insane!
jorjordandan··on Why Elon Musk Really Fears AI
I think that of all people who could be automated away, musk is probably not one of them. He probably would be happy to get rid of BS jobs. The problem is that once an AI gets to the tipping point of being able to improve itself, it will a) get super-intelligent, and b) start optimizing everything for it's programmed purpose. There was a great discussion with Nick an the Partially Examined Life podcast. The point of the investment is that we don't know what will happen when AI hits that point, or when it will be. So it makes sense to think about it..
jorjordandan··on Cooking Patterns
... or else just use chef ...
jorjordandan··on Cooking Patterns
Nice! Now we just need to be able to deploy lunch with `git push table`
