jordsmi··on Ask HN: Does anyone read posts below the first 10 on the homepage of HN?
Yes, but I don't usually read alot of posts total. I'll flip through a bunch of pages, opening interesting threads in a new tab. Then I look at the comments, and depending on how they look I'll read the article.
jordsmi··on Ask HN: Would you pay to use Reddit?
If it kept all of the same people and info, yes.

If I was going to pay just for there become a free alternative elsewhere, no.

Teespring and Facebook work together very closely. The majority of teespring traffic comes from facebook and they want to make sure they don't run into any issues with facebook.
jordsmi··on Did anyone actually get any good deals from Amazon Prime Day?
I got some protein powder. Wasn't any cheaper but they gave out a $25 gift card
jordsmi··on Ask HN: I keep trying and failing at startups, what am I doing wrong?
I think you need to spend more time and money on marketing. You need to split test various ads to see what actually gets people in, then spend good money to that. $50-150 can be gone in no time if you aren't targeting correctly/using the right creatives.

Without good marketing none of your apps are going to take off. You can't just make them and hope it fills with users

jordsmi··on Ask HN: How do you deal with social media pressure on your GitHub project?
My god those comments are a shitshow
jordsmi··on Ask HN: Freelancers, how do you track your income?
Quickbooks online self employment edition. It tracks income, expenses, and does quarterly taxes for you.
jordsmi··on Ask HN: Share your best personal productivity tips and tricks
Number 1 is a huge. The biggest thing with procrastination is actually starting on the task. Usually it's something I want to do, but just can't get myself to do it for various reasons. If I just do something as simple as saying I am going to write one line of code, I usually get sucked into the project.
jordsmi··on Is SQL pronounced "s-q-l" or "sequel"?
Is saying "Ping" actually a thing? I've only ever heard "P-N-G"
jordsmi··on Ask HN: Why is there such a divide in new languages for webdev newbies to learn?
This isn't something you see in just the webdev community. Us humans like to be apart of groups or cliques. Rails vs Django. vim vs emacs. iPhone vs Android. This team vs that team. Everyone has an opinion and they think that their opinion is fact.

Do your research. Find what tool fits your needs and go with that.

jordsmi··on Ask HN: Learning Web Development, where should I start?
Nothing is the overall "best". It all depends on what you need to build, and what you enjoy working with.
jordsmi··on Ask HN: What's the best way to invest in Bitcoin?
Depends where you are from.

If from US just sign up at coinbase, add bank account, and buy them.

jordsmi··on Ask HN: Is Rails really dying?
It says 2007-12-31
jordsmi··on How Plentyoffish Conquered Online Dating (2009)
Tinder is more for hooking up than dating, which is the big difference between the two.
jordsmi··on Ask HN: Windows vs. Ubuntu/Linux for Coding
It depends on your language(s) of choice, but I prefer to use some form of linux. My go to lately has been Linux Mint.

If you enjoy windows for your day to day business, then just code inside of a linux virtual box.

jordsmi··on Ask HN: Do you take nootropics?
Just caffeine and L-theanine. Mixture of coffee and caff/l-theanine pills.

I like the pills instead of all caffeine because I end up with bad jitters if I have too much caffeine in a day.

jordsmi··on Ask HN: Do you take nootropics?
Adderall is not a nootropic
jordsmi··on Ask HN: Web IDEs with hosted VMs?
I tried nitrious.io for a little bit and had an enjoyable experience.
jordsmi··on Ask HN: Favorite podcasts?
I've been a fan of these since he started them, but I often end up wishing they were longer.
jordsmi··on Ask HN: My idea is already taken. What should I do?
Almost every idea is taken. Do it better than the people who have done it before
jordsmi··on [dead]
I can not do this for you, but thank you for reminding me that I forgot to pay for the verified status. Don't want to miss out on a free $1k credit.
jordsmi··on Airbnb referral program lost them my business
Also says $75 here https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/84
jordsmi··on Ask HN: My Netflix got hacked – I found out who sold my credentials. What now?
People sell accounts that are from phishers and botnets. Which is mostly less work than using stolen CCs

You can buy the accounts for $2 or you can pay $20 for unlimited accounts. They sell programs that you click a button and it just gives you another hacked account from their database.

jordsmi··on Ask HN: My Netflix got hacked – I found out who sold my credentials. What now?
Not even that.. You can buy netflix logins for $2 a piece
jordsmi··on Show HN: JumpChat – Skype without accounts
> Skype's killer feature is that it has a list of people I know that I have added,

This so much. The only reason I use skype is because that is just where everyone already is. No need to get people to make new accounts, get them to download new apps, etc.

jordsmi··on Ask HN: I am a copy/paste programmer, is that bad?
To be honest I think alot of programmers copy and paste, unless it is something that they use often. If there is a module that you rarely use, or have never used before, why would you know how to use it off the top of your head? Also, some things you may be able to do on your own but copy and pasting could save you the time that it would take you to type those X amount of lines.
jordsmi··on Ask HN: What would we need to pay for?
Servers and marketing are the two big money hogs.

Also you need to think about the time spent and income being made. Getting investments mean you can treat it as your full time job and not worry about dipping into your own savings after your 3rd month of advertising without getting much return.

jordsmi··on Ask HN: i'm not chasing my passion and feel like a failure
If you have a decent paying job and are supporting yourself, I don't see that as a failure. We all dream of going out and making our own startup, but in reality it doesn't work out for everyone. Sometimes it is safer to keep working at your not so great job until you have more room to work on your own stuff.
jordsmi··on Show HN: Monthly earnings of 23 Twitch streamer
I find it hilarious when the girls have their camera covering up more screen than the game. Obviously they know what people have come for.
