jordanmorgan10··on Ask HN: Founders, what was the major sourcing channel for your first 100 users?

I wrote on this exact topic (literally - how I got my first 100 paying users) here: https://swiftjectivec.com/The-First-100-Subscribers/

jordanmorgan10··on Using Paid Ads to Grow Elite Hoops as an Indie and 11 Other Lessons
I have not been able to figure out tangible, real ASO steps I should take. Or how to measure them. All of the tools for this are unintuitive to me. Any resources?
jordanmorgan10··on Using Paid Ads to Grow Elite Hoops as an Indie and 11 Other Lessons
I've done both:

- ASA was awesome in the beginning for me, but a competitor came out and way outbid me. So I don't use them currently. - Meta will take time to figure out, but once it did - it has been critical for me. For example, at the start I had my targeting age around 20-60 year old, something like that. But I found out that 20-25 year olds aren't really serious basketball coaches yet, and the algo serves ads to them like crazy because they are super cheap. Basically, low intent users. Changing my age range to 25+ was like a magic switch that made me ads better overnight. Stuff like that is why you need a few months to figure it out, and you can do that without spending a toooon of money, but you do need to spend some money. Hope that helps.

It's been a huge challenge for me, because I find so much joy in building stuff. I didn't discuss it in the article, but one thing that's helped me is to just give myself a "free roaming" day here and there to just open up Xcode and work on some idea that I know won't ship. Just gives me that dopamine hit though, and sometimes a lot of that code finds itself in Elite Hoops.

I get what you’re saying and largely agree, but without result builders SwiftUI wouldn’t exist, let alone “look pretty”. You seem to be devaluing the syntactic sugar it brings, which in this case makes a massive difference.
jordanmorgan10··on How to succeed in MrBeast production (Leaked PDF)
I just couldn’t with this, until the very last page. I feel like so many founders write and expect performance like this, and they miss what he said at the very, very end.

So, I’ll give him credit for that.

Ah yes, my favorite genre of comments - parenting opinions.
jordanmorgan10··on An FDA approved device offers a new treatment for tinnitus
It took me 3 months to get into ENT here, and while they are very kind - it added nothing for me personally (i.e. we don't have a good solution for tinnitus, here are some things to avoid, etc etc). I hope your visit bears more fruit!
jordanmorgan10··on An FDA approved device offers a new treatment for tinnitus
100%! Thankfully, I am doing better mentally. I have accepted that I may always have it, and that, honestly, has been the best "cure" so far.
jordanmorgan10··on An FDA approved device offers a new treatment for tinnitus
Would you mind sending me a link to the oil? Or is it prescribed?
jordanmorgan10··on An FDA approved device offers a new treatment for tinnitus
Same except for me it was covid. It's likely caused by eustachian disfunction and they've all told me it takes so long to correct itself.
jordanmorgan10··on An FDA approved device offers a new treatment for tinnitus
35 year old male. I developed tinnitus in my left ear only after covid last December. It's been constant since December 21st, 2023.

I have an amazingly huge level of empathy of anyone dealing with this - the first few days were some of the longest of my life. Through it all so far, it's amazing how little we seem to know about tinnitus - TL;DR my doctors have said we don't have any great answers for it.

Thanks for posting the link - I will try any "trick" or treatment for this.

jordanmorgan10··on Scrum Sucks
I have never, ever worked at a company where I e joyed any form of agile or scrum. All it did was kill my joy, add more meetings and complicate even the simplest things. I honestly wish it would just go away.
jordanmorgan10··on YouTube TV, which costs $73 a month, agrees to end "$600 less than cable" ads
I’m subscribed to them for the same reason I was subscribed to DirecTV for a decade - they have a monopoly on Sunday Ticket.

Oh, how I yearn for Sunday Ticket to just be its own entity so I didn’t have to buy another service.

I mean…I don’t entirely agree, they’ve created an entire service to avoid the problems you are describing with Apple Arcade.

jordanmorgan10··on Why doctors hate their computers (2018)
My first job out of college was working in software for long term care/skilled nursing facilities. The software we were making was burdened in so many ways, it was painful. I have no problem believing people don't like this kind of thing.

There can be other reasons for walled gardens outside of capitalism.

jordanmorgan10··on Writing summaries is more important than reading more books
To each their own, I love summarizing books. I have a template in Day One to do a personal "book review" for each book I finish (yes, High School me is gagging at this thought).

I even setup a Siri Shortcut to pull out all of my Kindle highlights to stick in there: https://twitter.com/JordanMorgan10/status/130370253693587046...

jordanmorgan10··on Americans have never been so unwilling to relocate for a new job
Forever thankful for remote work. Moving my entire family is simply not an option for me.

School. My affordable cost of living. Friends. Family. Familiarity. Churches I enjoy. Sports.

All of the little bits that make life enjoyable to me would effectively be reset, and the thought of having to do that sounds like a massive barrier to entry to any potential job.

jordanmorgan10··on JPMorgan Chase and Co tracks employees to dystopian extents
I built and sold a company on "Work machine" since I've been employed here in the last 7 years. This setup only works because of the company and the culture. I can sympathize that it wouldn't work for larger employers.
