jonathanpeterwu··on Ask HN: GraphQL or REST?
Context and use case are important to help determine this. If you have an existing RESTful backend, think carefully through how complex your front end data may be per page/view. If you’re requiring multiple API calls or creation of custom routes to stitch data together GraphQL can be an ideal technology choice. Definitely would recommend checking out Apollo as well as Airbnb’s Blog Posts on integrating GraphQL/Apollo into their applications.

jonathanpeterwu··on Parse is shutting down, shall I migrate to another BaaS or Parse OSS offering?
Take the time to move it to a self-hosted setup. You're already dealing with a company shutting down their own service.

Best thing you can do is be self-sufficient and self-reliant.

Kudos on hitting the ethos behind product first engineers who build w/ code for the love of creating things rather than just the code. Code is the tool you wield to build great things, not the only source of beauty.

jonathanpeterwu··on How Modern Marketplaces Like Uber and Airbnb Build Trust to Achieve Liquidity

Interesting seeing some of these "unicorn" companies quickly raising massive rounds of funding due to the relative ease of raising large rounds of private capital over the past 12-18 months.

There is definitely a trend for these companies, Quora, Snapchat, etc to raise large private rounds to avoid the stress and uncertainty of IPOs.
