If it was just a simple matter of "what was available" these lenses would be an interesting footnote in Photography history. But that's not the case, people still buy them for their unique properties 50 years later and the fact a company exists to re-house them more than proves their legendary status in my mind.

As someone who was played every entry since the 90s I can't even imagine how you could come away as Pokemon games being "grindy", assuming you're talking about just playing through the story. EXP share has been a standard mechanic for the past few generations that have effectively eliminated any grinding.

I'm also not really sure where you're getting "massive amounts" of RNG from either. Sure, moves can miss but it's never consequential enough that it could ruin a run or something. At most you lose a few minutes having to run back somewhere.

Some devices are/were only vulnerable during the initial pairing but a key point from this talk was that most of these devices were vulnerable during normal use.

The RACE protocol could be accessed even if the device isn’t in pairing mode. Then once you have a target device’s key you can carry out the attack at anytime, when they’d be unlikely to notice.

It can be fixed if the manufacturer releases a firmware update for the affected devices.

It allows the pairing key to be exfiltrated from the compromised device and an external, attacker controlled device to perform any function the original device could. This includes retrieving the paired devices phone number, answering phone calls, and receiving the audio. They live demo hijacking a whatsapp account using this.

Important to note that usage of an Airoha chip doesn’t imply being vulnerable, so each device has to be checked individually.

It’s possible they weren’t vulnerable to begin with, it’s also possible they silently patched it.

Yeah, the passkey provider management is absolutely horrendous and is the biggest blocker to passkey adoption in my eyes. I have 3 different sources (iCloud keychain, Yubikey, and Enpass) and in the best case it's some extra clicks like you mention, in the worst case it just simply won't let me select the correct provider.

I've resigned to registering a passkey into all of my providers and just letting the most platform native option win for now.

I'm not sure if just this individual is upset, or if he's speaking on behalf of the entire community he's the leader of.

I think it's clear that Mozilla wants machine translation to take a bigger role in producing localized content, and this new process will be a large shift in the way things have been done. I think it's fair for Mozilla to do this, but I also think it's fair for the maintainer to be upset with this decision and no longer want to volunteer his time to clean up slop.

The initial response feels premature and tone deaf which is why people are irked by it.

Given that Mozilla "shot first" so to speak, the onus is on them to take action first e.g. disable the bot, revert changes to articles, etc. Only after doing this can discussion on a path forward happen.

Hence why I said "from my read". This is how I view the situation, and why the lead is reacting the way they are.

And at what point are all of the translations done by machines and the work the community is doing no longer needed? At the very least, the nature of their work will change and I think they're not interested in participating anymore.

I'm in a similar situation. I really wish there was a way to stop YouTube from suggesting me auto-dubbed videos.

I've really disliked Reddit's auto-translation. I'm bilingual (English & Japanese) and when I search for things only to get an auto-translated reddit thread it really is bizarre. The references, flow of the conversation, etc. are all just off and it feels weird.

I've been studying Japanese for 15+ years and have really come to loathe machine translations from English. While generally the meaning gets across, they're very unnatural and often use words in contexts that sound weird or are just flat out wrong.

From my read, the software didn't go wrong. It did exactly what they intended it to -- machine translations replaced handwritten translations provided by community volunteers. Seems like a pretty big middle finger to those volunteers.

The lead realized that Mozilla doesn't care about their opinion (they did this without discussing with them) nor do they care about the work they were doing (by replacing their work with machine translations). A "quick call" doesn't solve this.

His stance is less that pods don't perform, and more that powders perform just as well and are less wasteful.

Don't get me wrong, gaming on linux still has many sharp edges and anti-cheat is definitely one of them. I just felt "almost all (if not all) games" was misleading, and some 40% of the games with anti-cheat are indeed playable on linux.

Yeah, totally understand it isn't that simple but that's also my point. "Game has anti-cheat so it doesn't work on linux" is an oversimplification and people should check the specific games they're interested in. They could very well work if the developer allows it.

This is simply not true. Most anti-cheat software does work on linux, but many games choose not to allow linux.

It's quite interesting to see this data, but I can't help but think that there's some overloading of the words and a bit of a false comparison. The overrepresented categories could be seen as such when focusing on the aspect of "cause of death". But murder, terrorism, etc. as topics aren't simply that someone died but that another person caused it. A sad reality, but the news tends to highlight the criminals, not the victims.

The MNT Reform does not use Li-Ion batteries, resulting in much poorer energy density. It's going to depend on the cells being used but this is what I could see from the Reform Next detail page: 8× LiFePO4 cells (16000 mAh total). Assuming 2200mah cells, I think this nets you around 56 Wh in a 4S2P configuration, Li-Ion cells would be closer to 65 Wh.

According to Apple's website it seems a 14 inch macbook pro has a 70 Wh battery.

TVs in Japan let you do exactly this. You just plug in any sufficiently fast USB mass storage and can record tv to it. There’s some sort of encryption scheme bound to the tv though so it’s not portable. There may be someway to transfer the recordings to other tvs but it’s limited.

There’s even a companion app that will stream recordings on your tv to your phone.
