joeevans1000··on Pipelining might be my favorite programming language feature
As well as a lot of flexibility on where the result of the previous step feeds into the current one.
joeevans1000··on Pipelining might be my favorite programming language feature
And with the Emacs Enlighten feature the second version enables seeing the results of each step right in the editor, to the right of the step.
joeevans1000··on Pipelining might be my favorite programming language feature
Clojure threading, of course.
joeevans1000··on Raspberry Pi Lidar Scanner
I noticed that you can't use it commercially without contributing. How much do you have to contribute for that and where would someone do it?
joeevans1000··on Raspberry Pi Lidar Scanner
This is amazing! Thank you!

It may be in the project as I just scanned through i (but will read through it properly soon), but do you have any of the data for accuracy? Say, over 10M (Or less, if this lidar doesn't work at that distance).

I'm familiar with the FARO scanners which have a different type of mechanism. Their accuracy is good enough for building things.

I've discovered there's several markets for scanners… among those are people who need accuracy and people who are creating content for media like games.

Thank you so much for sharing this project. It's truly unbelievable.

joeevans1000··on Why I don't discuss politics with friends
> How can you prioritize limited resources with deadly consequences without understanding utilitarianism vs deontology (i.e. the trolly problem)?

Can you explain this to me?

joeevans1000··on Installing air filters in classrooms has surprisingly large educational benefits (2020)
i'm sure it's because they were white noise generators essentially.
joeevans1000··on GIMP 3.0
Oh yes... yes... yes. I hate to be enthusiastic about this for a lame reason... but I can't believe the bloated labyrinthine expensive hellscape of Photoshop. With the myriad extra software one needs to install just to make it work. Thank YOUUUUUUU!!!!

> This is the end result of seven years of hard work by volunteer developers, designers, artists, and community members

Gratitude!

joeevans1000··on Show HN: We built Lovable for Mobile Apps (uses Flutter)
Won't sign up with Google or Microsoft, lol. Ever. And just a pro tip for getting other users that won't be bothered by that: after one types in the app idea it goes instantly to a sign up and feels weird. You should tease the user with some output to get them to want to sign up.
joeevans1000··on Athena spacecraft declared dead after toppling over on moon
Ah, cool. I'll look those up. I just looked at the Athena and I'm tempted to armchair quarterback a tiny bit. I mean, that thing looks extremely top heavy. And it had hundreds of millions of dollars of equipment on it. I also wonder if these companies are patenting their approaches so that other companies can't use working solutions.
joeevans1000··on Athena spacecraft declared dead after toppling over on moon
Not being critical here, just a question from my curious naivety (lunar exploration is hard): these landers seem spindly and unforgiving, landing-wise. Are there bouncy ball type craft that could be made, or something that can reorient or push itself up after landing? I have a vague memory of something like that being used on Mars.
joeevans1000··on Mistral OCR
I've found that the stunning OCR results so far were because the models were trained on the example file category. Is that the case here? Or can this recognize various documents?
joeevans1000··on Mistral OCR
Can someone give me a tl&dr on how to start using this? Is this available if one signs up for a regular Mistral account?

wow.
joeevans1000··on Grok3 Launch [video]
How can anyone repeatedly use a question like this without new models getting trained on it via online discussion?
joeevans1000··on From C++ to Clojure: Jank language promises best of both
This. Is. Awesome. Please keep moving forward with it. If it works well it will be a total game changer.
joeevans1000··on From C++ to Clojure: Jank language promises best of both
You can compile a native program. Not one that requires the JVM. And it also interops with a number of more native graphical tools (as opposed to having other use things that require/work-from java). To those coming to this thread who might not be familiar with Clojure: Clojure already can sit on top of javascript (as Clojurescript) and there was work making it work on top of, if I recall right, some of the C languages. But those latter ones don't seem to be anywhere near the capabilities of this project.

joeevans1000··on How we scaled Slack to support 1000s of developers
Regarding various comments here preferring email... let me say that I far, far prefer chat (and the instant notifications!). I would prefer Discord, but I'm just glad it's chat.

After saying that, let me share that Railway is incredible and very affordable.

WTF! This is absolutely so cool. Thank you!!
joeevans1000··on Nvidia-Ingest: Multi-modal data extraction
How is this different than elasticsearch and solr? That’s not any kind of challenging question… I really don’t know that much about these different tools and I just want to know what this one is about.

Also: I noticed that it mentioned images… does it do any kind of OCR or summary of them?

joeevans1000··on Doing Hard Things While Living Life: Why We Built Vade Studio in Clojure
And for superpowers. :-)
joeevans1000··on Why we built Vade Studio in Clojure
Is there a technical reason I can't sign into Studio with email? I'll really try to avoid signing in with other platforms, but I'll consider Github if there's some reason it has to be. I'll never sign into a service with Google.
joeevans1000··on Why we built Vade Studio in Clojure
In my case, it was definitely worth becoming uncomfortable for a bit to learn Clojure because I was very uncomfortable with the experience of many of the other languages. It’s also great to have endless backwards compatibility and little reliance on changing external libraries baked in.
joeevans1000··on Java in the Small
Take a look at Clojure and also Clojure Babashka.

I'm just trying to become literate in AI. Does anyone have any tips or links for how I could use the vectors for building a RAG?
