If what you're saying is "that's what I'm looking for but I wouldn't say it..."
I dunno, that seems like exactly the sort of thing people would complain about.
Or maybe I'm way underestimating the size of the Netflix library, but my impressions is it extremely tiny by comparison to YouTube.
15k is a ton for many people and probably well more than the inconvenience this one guy suffered.
But it's insubstantial compared to the cost of this case turning into a class action and getting the city to actually have to change something, and it sounds like it's insubstantial compared to the total harm of this program. Especially cases like the woman who was nearly arrested.
Not to say this work is necessarily not worth the cost, but it absolutely costs something.
I also liked that they don't make any attempt at claiming this is for any reason other than more money. No "oh our new models are too powerful to run locally" or "oh for security reasons" or whatever. Which would be pretty transparent bullshit but I think a lot of companies would try anyways. This literally admits that the cloud functionality is identical, just paid per use.
Imo if you bought the product in this state, fine, but if you bought it before they probably ought to have to grandfather you in forever.
I kind of wonder if it's a symptom of something but am otherwise more or less 100% neurotypical so I think it's just a weird quirk.

I know you know and this is just stupid pedantry but it made me cackle
For whatever reason this feels like an especially significant step on the path towards increasingly excessive control over individuals and it makes me very sad that it's finally happening.
I suppose if the end result was that speed limits got adjusted up 5-10 mph to match the speed of the road it would be fine. I doubt this would happen in general, and I know it wouldn't happen universally.
1. Google benefits from Android, but ios is apple. Google has other games.
2. Google doesn't make most androids. China would have to ban any company from making hardware designed to run android, not just ban Google from operating in the country, which would affect a bunch of non-google (even non-us) companies at least as much as it would affect Google itself.
Not sure what the harm is?

edit: Not that I necessarily agree with the article even in light of there being an outage, cloudflare has been pretty good for us. Just thought it was interesting.
