Ran into a blog post by Rainforest's CEO [1] that really resonated with me on why the status quo in testing is broken (it's all about misalignment of incentives).
My team did a bake off and Rainforest was the clear winner. What Rainforest has built is a big technical achievement and they make it look so easy! We're just getting started with them but we have high hopes that we can better balance velocity and quality.
I want to acknowledge how incredibly difficult it can be to give up smoking and express my support to all of you who are trying. I hope you find your path.
Isn't psilocybin already extremely safe? This seems to be more about capitalizing on psychedelics by tweaking a natural substance to make it patentable.
What would be interesting is the psychedelic equivalent of Narcan.

I hope we see more govts adopting bake-offs for buying IT.
* If your community has few essential workers, stay at home white collar workers will keep your infection rate down (see East Palo Alto vs SF)
* Having world-class public health universities is a big advantage (Stanford vs UCSF)
* Control outbreaks in vulnerable locations like Skilled Nursing Facilities
* Having an educated mask wearing public is helpful but not a big driver
The flip side is that the US has traditionally attracted the best talent in the world. This class has gone on to win the most Nobel prizes and create the most valuable companies in the world. Focusing on a real negative externality (labor arbitrage) fails to recognize the immense benefits skilled immigrants bring to this country.
I’m a son if one of them. My dad came this country in the 60s to get his masters in math at BYU. Probably the only South Asian in the entire class. He overcame extreme poverty,(half of his siblings died in childhood), disabilities to go on and achieve so much. I benefit from his achievements and being a US citizen.
That being said, we’re losing our preeminence due to growing xenophobia and a strident “might is right” worldview. But it doesn’t have to be this way - we can embrace our shared humanity while still competing on the global stage for talent.
My mute preference in videoconference tools:
Universal keyboard shortcut > app focused keyboard shortcut > no keyboard shortcut
A big part of the potency of recreational drugs is due to its illegality forcing suppliers to pack as much of a punch in the smallest package. Another contributing factor is Western culture - you don’t see a huge demand for low potency cannabis. People like their drugs strong.
