jmb12686··on Fighting persistent Lyme disease symptoms
Growing up in Indiana, I definitely had my fair share of pruning ticks off my body, but I have never seen as many ticks as in that video.
jmb12686··on EC2 Instance Connect
Fair enough, I agree Enterprise workloads are better off relying on Enterprise class products.

Google Compute Engine has had this functionality for years (at least the browser based SSH). Furthermore, Google's free Cloud Shell feature is fantastic.

Over the years, AWS has put their focus entirely on "Enterprise" customer functionality as opposed to "developer friendly" capabilities.

jmb12686··on How Discount Brokerages Make Money
Having worked in the industry (at a defunct brokerage with well known commercials featuring the owner/CEO in a purple helicopter), I would say this is a fairly accurate description of the industry's economics. Just like most topics in the financial world, the general public is left in the dark regarding the specifics...articles like this help shed a small light.

jmb12686··on The Future of Docker Desktop for Windows
This is great news. No more CIFS bind mounts required for volume sharing with Windows drives. This is a particular issue with on corporate / Enterprise windows boxes.
jmb12686··on There Is Too Much Stuff
As a homeowner, I completely relate to this. Every single task around the house requires "stuff" that you may or may not ever use again. That is of course unless you pay $100+ an hour for a contractor, and that's IF (and big if) they are even willing to show up for a small simplistic job. Many contractors worth their salt are only interested in larger jobs that are more profitable. Good luck finding someone to do handyman work.
jmb12686··on A Decade of Remote Work
I completely sympathize with your struggle. I have 3 children <= age of 3.

Prior to having children of toddler age (as in, children able to physically bang on my locked office door), working from home was the only time I was able to maintain deep focus and accomplish difficult tasks.

My wife does an amazing job keeping my 3 children happy and occupied, but the noise and distraction level at times creates an atmosphere worse than being in the office. I have come to the realization that this is just a temporary phase that will pass. In a few years, once the kids are in school M-F 8~3, WFH glory will one day return. In the meantime, I've discovered quiet places in the office to hide out and perform deep thinking / heads down work. If I was paid more $$, I suppose I'd probably rent a temporary or shared space to periodically work from.

jmb12686··on Poopmail – include an expiry date in your email address
Maybe it’s the chronic sleep deprivation or a coincidence that I just performed a poopy diaper of my twin infant daughters just now, but i could not stop laughing after reading thru this project’s README. Well done, this is hilarious.
jmb12686··on Otonomo, with nearly $55M in funding, is cloning our product
Where I grew up (borderline Midwest, generally associated with the South), it is common to ask “What kind of Coke would you like?” And an acceptable answer to said question could be “Mountain Dew”, “Dr Pepper”, or any competing soda brand. After I moved away from my hometown (though still in the general midwestern region) I found it fascinating how hyper local the nomenclature for soda can be (or rather “pop” or “coke” depending on where you live).
