jki275··on Claude Sonnet will ship in Xcode
Claude is bad at embedded. Not sure why, it just is what it is for now.
jki275··on Reverse Engineering All the Raspberry Pis
Also there are usb devices that can run gpio/spi/i2c/uart for a few bucks.
jki275··on How deepfake vishing attacks work, and why they can be hard to detect
It's still not a word.
jki275··on I want everything local – Building my offline AI workspace
That was true until Apple released the M series laptops.
jki275··on How deepfake vishing attacks work, and why they can be hard to detect
"vishing" is not a fucking word no matter how much comptia wants it to be.
jki275··on GPT-4o is gone and I feel like I lost my soulmate
lot of mental health issues. I use LLMs for technical things, but these people using them for therapists, I'm not sure that's healthy.
jki275··on MLX-GUI v1.2.4 Private AI API for Apple Silicon (Chat,Audio,Embeddings,Vision)
LM Studio does automatic model loading and unloading fyi.
jki275··on Neil Armstrong's customs form for moon rocks (2016)
Wikipedia at least says you're right -- he was a Naval Aviator and test pilot, but must have left the service when he went to NASA.
jki275··on Why Do Victims of Massacres Go to Their Deaths?
They are also notorious for drugging them.
jki275··on Neil Armstrong's customs form for moon rocks (2016)
The US government does issue life insurance for all military personnel. It's a nominal cost (20 bucks a month IIRC) for something like 400k of coverage. It's been around since 1914[1].

As far as I know all of the astronauts were military at that time, so they probably would have been covered by this program. There could be any number of nuances I'm not aware of though.

jki275··on Neil Armstrong's customs form for moon rocks (2016)
If we make port calls anywhere outside the US we definitely go through customs on return.
jki275··on MLX-GUI v1.2.4 Private AI API for Apple Silicon (Chat,Audio,Embeddings,Vision)
It looks pretty cool. How is it different or better than LM Studio?
jki275··on Proton joins suit against Apple for practices that harm developers and consumers
Windows Mobile? iOS absolutely existed alongside BBM as well.

Apple didn't integrate with RCS because RCS was a fragmented pile of garbage. It still is, but it's I suppose less fragmented now.

None of that "harmed" friendships, certainly not any real ones.

jki275··on US Army Appoints Palantir, Meta, OpenAI Execs as Lt. Colonels
They're O5s. But in the reserves, so they won't be getting paid much unless they're activated.
jki275··on US Army Appoints Palantir, Meta, OpenAI Execs as Lt. Colonels
decision making on contracts and acquisitions is a very complex thing the DOD, and they won't be allowed anywhere near it in the areas where they have civilian conflicts of interest.
jki275··on Claude Code feels like magic because it is iterative
FYI -- Windsurf, Cline, Cursor will all do this also, using Claude models if you set them up that way.
jki275··on The Rise of the Japanese Toilet
Seriously. Nobody said "buy a new house".

Adding an outlet is a few minutes worth of work. It's not "buy a new house", that's about as ridiculous a straw man as I have ever heard of.

jki275··on The Rise of the Japanese Toilet
That statement is so broad as to be impossible to even debate.

There are thousands of new houses going up where I live. Maybe there aren't where you are. Who cares?

jki275··on The Rise of the Japanese Toilet
I haven't seen a relatively modern house that didn't have an outlet within a few feet of the toilet area in a while.
jki275··on The Rise of the Japanese Toilet
As already posted, GFCIs are required, they cost ten bucks and take about five minutes to install.
jki275··on The ‘white-collar bloodbath’ is all part of the AI hype machine
That's about to get repealed it looks like.
jki275··on Did You Shoot Somebody in Self-Defense? There's an Insurance Policy for That
There are generally a lot of conditions on this kind of insurance. I doubt any would cover one's defense if one were to shoot a law enforcement officer.
jki275··on Whistleblower details how DOGE may have taken sensitive NLRB data
You're making broad blanket statements that have no basis in anything other than media BS.

There is no "forcing access". It simply doesn't work that way.

If the President clears them, they are cleared. That's perfectly legal. The President is the federal government's OCA.

jki275··on Whistleblower details how DOGE may have taken sensitive NLRB data
what do you mean by "clearances"?

If they're accessing data that requires clearances, they have the required clearances. That's mandatory, and no one is going to show them anything without them.

My guess, based on the fact you use terms like "protected government data" is that you don't even know enough about this topic to make up words about it.

jki275··on US Ends Support For Ukrainian F-16s
Yes, but also no.

Some of the capabilities, sure -- you're never going to be able to use them if you don't have the things it needs to talk to.

The lack of those things don't turn it into a brick. It's still a highly capable fifth gen LO fighter/bomber without them.

jki275··on US Ends Support For Ukrainian F-16s
Iran is still flying F14s.
jki275··on FFmpeg School of Assembly Language
Oh I definitely agree that in the vast majority of cases the compiler will probably win.

But I suspect there are cases where the super experts exist who can do things better.

jki275··on FFmpeg School of Assembly Language
Probably some very niche things. I know I can't write ASM that's 10x better than C, but I wouldn't assume no one can.
jki275··on Apple Debuts iPhone 16e
Also patents. Everything in the cell modem world is horribly encumbered by patents -- many of which I believe Qualcomm owns.
jki275··on You're not a senior engineer until you've worked on a legacy project (2023)
haha damn it I didn't see that typo.
