jjoergensen··on CockroachDB: A Scalable, Geo-Replicated, Transactional Datastore
It reminds me of a female programmer that I once worked with. By mistake she had originally named one of our busiest databases "ClickCuntDB"

It was a database for counting the clicks on our website :-)

jjoergensen··on CShell: A simple, yet powerful, C# scripting IDE
It probably should have been named CSShell :-)
jjoergensen··on Show HN: Cool 3D RTS game (up to 8-players) running in the browser

jjoergensen··on Varnish in Five Acts
I must have scanned the blog post too quickly. Thanks for the clarification.
jjoergensen··on Varnish in Five Acts
I do not think that he should overwrite vcl_hash. By default Varnish caches by the request host and not the backend host?

Here is the default:

sub vcl_hash { hash_data(req.url); if (req.http.host) { hash_data(req.http.host); } else { hash_data(server.ip); } return (hash); }

jjoergensen··on Fallback from CDN to local jQuery

jjoergensen··on BitTorrent’s Secure Dropbox Alternative Goes Public
Does anyone have experience with http://www.symform.com?
jjoergensen··on BitTorrent’s Secure Dropbox Alternative Goes Public
A solution could be to give each of your machines their own folder. In this folder they are the source and the only machine allowed to make changes. Other machines can read, but not update.
jjoergensen··on Collaborative chat done right
Is it really okay to make an identification copy, if one of them is open source and the other is commercial software?

I do not think it is. Try and be a little original.

jjoergensen··on Rethinking Cookies: originOnly
Ok i wasn't talking about security problems. Just the problem in general of cookies. And so I don't think it is true that "Cookies provide a function for their origin web site, every other use is generally not good for the consumer."

Besides, some people have the illusion that changing the cookies will give them privacy. Well, there are many other ways of following them around although a little less accurate.

jjoergensen··on Rethinking Cookies: originOnly
I don't really see the problem with cookies. They make things easier to implement, they enable a ton of new businesses and they make things easier for the consumers.
jjoergensen··on Open Letter to Skype from Internet Activists, Journalists and Academics
The governments in many countries are monitoring everything that you are doing. It is no longer a fictitious idea about what could be done. They collect and correlate sets of data and they use it for monitoring for abnormal behaviour and find potential threats.

There is nothing that you can do about it. Your only safety is that you are completely irrelevant for them and they keep their mouth shut unless they have a very good reason not to do so.

jjoergensen··on RabbitMQ Highly Available Queues and Clustering using Amazon EC2
Do not forget about the netsplit scenarios. In the case you have two datacenters, and one has network problems, you will end up in a split-brain scenario. Both datacenters may believe they are available or down. A way to solve this, could be to use more boxes and majority voting, with something like apache zookeeper. But none of this comes out of the box.
jjoergensen··on Ask HN: Who Is Hiring? (September 2012)

jjoergensen··on Ask HN: I'm desperate to stay in Denmark. Anyone need a great web/ios dev?
Hi, try and give me a call if you like +45 31 36 97 05 or write me here jmj@dagensbedste.dk. I cannot make any promises though.

Today we do development in Barcelona and with some externals, but our main office is in Denmark and I could use someone locally who can work independently. We are making a very successful daily deals site in Denmark and 7 other countries.

Best of luck

jjoergensen··on Citrix Acquires Podio
Podio is actually quite cool... But where is Citrix going? Are they still relevant as a company?
jjoergensen··on EU wants to criminalize "Hacking Tools"
EU internet laws has no effect. Look at the cookie legislation that made it impossible to set cookies on peoples machines without explicit consent. What is dangerous is that one day they may be put into use. But for now they are just largely ignored.
jjoergensen··on Live video of House SOPA hearing
Why should we obey physical boundaries? Internet should be for people across national borders. If anything, we should establish our own government for the Internet that actually knows and understands what they're talking about.
