jimmychoozyx··on The downfall of National Geographic
> nothing has really filled their niche

Traditional media has become replaced by Social media.

A good Youtube Adventure film, such as a tour of a beach town or historic town, a safari documentary, or a foodie tour, scratches my adventure itch quite well-- along the same vein as a magazine article, yet a film feels more sensory-immersive.

jimmychoozyx··on Hipólito Mora, vigilante crusader against Mexico’s cartels, killed in ambush
Yep.

Miguel Felix Gallardo was a Federal Police officer in Mexico

...as well as the godfather of the son of the (1963 to 1968) Governor of the Mexican state of Sinaloa.

He is considered one of if not the original cartel drug lord of Mexican cartels, as a/the founder of the Sinaloa cartel.

jimmychoozyx··on Plastics are poisoning us
"The word 'Plastic' needs to die." ... "its terrible to stereotype them all into one category."

I disagree, because, that's like me telling you "The word 'Cancer' needs to die." etc.

That would imply you'd be required to tell me the specific cancer you refer to when you say "you aren't going to get cancer from PLA or Teflon" etc.

General terms exist for a reason.

jimmychoozyx··on Why doesn't TypeScript properly type Object.keys?
That actually makes the most sense, of any reasons for using Typescript, that I've heard. Good point.
jimmychoozyx··on Tell HN: Interview take home assessments without feedback are frustrating
"these companies aren't really hiring unless you are young and cheap"

Nah, I think there are more factors at work (Also, cheap is relative, therefore dependent on other factors, and therefore somewhat vague)-- its a multivariate situation where you, and the many factors you bring, flow into a process and the many factors it brings. If enough of those factors line up enough-- you get hired.

If it takes 18 months to get hired, I'd analyze the factors you bring. Such as: Web portfolio & Online presence. Network. Resume posted on multiple sites. Appearance & Demeanor during interviews. Skills/Years Exp/Qualifications relative to the role's stated requirements. Etc.

jimmychoozyx··on Why doesn't TypeScript properly type Object.keys?
I agree-- in terms of it being almost exclusively overhead.

Personally, I hate typescript. So much redundancy. It's not insanely awful, but just awful and unnecessary enough (except large corporate projects with significant developer churn) that it's a pet peeve of mine.

"Hey, let's just write the same thing 4 times so you know it's a string! Because quotation marks aren't clear enough! Yay!!" "I must redundantly ensure you know this number is a number! Even though you can easily convert it to one if you need to, and move on! Yay"

I'm bummed that it is becoming so common and popular in the industry.
