jerrre··on YouTube tells foreign creators they will soon be charged American tax
I think YT's discovery and reach is - and will be for some time - unparalleled for a lot of types of content?
jerrre··on Popular YouTubers who are building their own sites
I would assume it's a net win for those people to have those thumbnails.
jerrre··on Firefox replaces Google Analytics with fake no-op in strict tracking protection
Perhaps I'm old fashioned but I would not expect a restaurant owner to track where I come from, my demographics etc?
jerrre··on Daft Punk Break Up
Or maybe not living geographically and/or culturally close? Or does that fall under sheltered lifestyle.
jerrre··on Do Adults Really Not Remember School Sucked?
I remember (West Europa, not US), from middle school already feeling no motivation to move ahead in the material, because I was forced to keep following the lessons anyway. No skipping of classes/tests. Of course I don't really know how that could've worked if you take into account the social function of school.
jerrre··on Null
Not everyone feels it's their moral right to be as productive/effective as possible.
jerrre··on Ask HN: How do I get people to find my pre-launch landing page?
This story was 2 years ago but I just made a simple 1 page landing page for a product idea with just the first things that came to mind for describing the problem and solution. I have no SEO or copywriting expertise at all.

After making Google Index it it just got traffic in a couple of months, now still having 2-3k views/mo.

jerrre··on A half-hour to learn Rust
I've been staring at this for a minute, but please help me seeing a toilet in this? Is it a top down view perhaps?
jerrre··on I asked GPT-3 for the question to “42”
meaning "42" is the answer to "what is the question"?

curious to hear what would be the answer to "42?"

jerrre··on Show HN: Live map of “good morning/night” tweets
ah I thought it was just down, but it was FF (on macOS) related, Chrome works
jerrre··on 2+1=4, by quinoa
assuming the volume of flour changes with humidity because it contains more moisture, wouldn't it also increase the weight?

Not an expert by any means though, so correct me if I'm wrong

jerrre··on On the Folly of Rewarding A, While Hoping for B (1975) [pdf]
Is there an article somewhere describing the last point (YC crowd sourcing)? Sounds like an interesting read, but can't find any thing with just these terms.
jerrre··on Prowords
Do you have a link to this communication?
jerrre··on Known anomalies in Unicode character names (2017)
Not a great example if it's not a platform for only Korean people. If you have a field for middle name, there will probably be some-one with the language set to Korean still be interested in reading or writing that field (ie expats learning the language, or perhaps people with mixed heritage?). I think assuming because Korean (people) have no middle names you don't need to translate it is more careless than the other way around.
jerrre··on Show HN: Twitch Roulette – Find and chat with streamers who are streaming alone
I thought about both being able to include and exclude games (and non game stuff like IRL, music etc)
jerrre··on 68 Bits of Unsolicited Advice
Where I live cheaper houses are more likely to be old (ie 80+ years) and badly insulated, costing more to heat and to maintain....
jerrre··on 68 Bits of Unsolicited Advice
>> When you die you take absolutely nothing with you except your reputation.

>Is this saying that your reputation dies with you? I don't get this, surely people will remember how you acted when you were alive. I'm probably taking it too literally.

I interpret this the other way around: nothing you gain in life matters/retains value/sticks (to you?) after you die except your reputation

jerrre··on Show HN: A basketball hoop to maximize shots that go in [video]
your [0] link is missing

edit: pasted the first yt result here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHTizZ_XcUM

jerrre··on CNN-generated images are surprisingly easy to spot for now
That really depends on the reader...
jerrre··on Nobody Cares (2011)
I think this depends if you view a game or league purely as a compition (per definition if one team wins, another one has to lose), or as a "brand": very exciting games can increase the popularity of a league/sport, increasing revenue/attention even for the losing team.

I think most sports fans only look at the first part.

jerrre··on Why Kids Love Garbage Trucks
I think there are companies offering controlling-excavators-as-an-attraction (or the always creative team-building), maybe there is also a market for this?
jerrre··on MacBook Pro 16" 2019 Teardown
do you have a source?
jerrre··on Facebook to Exempt Opinion and Satire from Fact-Checking
I'm already looking forward to serious articles that are going to be ironically labeled as satire (obviously again misunderstood by some percentage of the population)
jerrre··on Apple has copied some of the most popular apps in the App Store
I've built something very similar, but in C++, my email address is in my hn profile page...
jerrre··on California bill could force Uber and Lyft to reclassify drivers as employees
How can owning a car be more expensive than having someone else own a car and paying them for it, while also paying them to drive it, while also the app gets a share? Is the base cost of owning a car so high? Do the apps subsidize so much?
jerrre··on Time anxiety: is it too late?
Great list! Creation, especially in the physical world is somehow easily overlooked

I'd also add social/multiplayer stuff (although many of these things might be improved by sharing) like team sports, a band, board games.

jerrre··on Ask HN: Who Are the Hong Kong Protesters?
Thanks,

>Battles on social media?

just to be clear: I meant that social media was where _I_ encountered the battles that are _fought_ in the streets.

>So the answer to your question is that they are people who hope that their freedom doesn't have to be backed by violence.

I think my question is more practical (maybe too naive?): are these a fixed group of people that do this full-time: how do they eat, pay for housing in the meantime, get their gear?

jerrre··on Survival of the Richest (2018)
Do you have any good sources on the existance of the latter group? Also that could be seen as a subset of the former, I'd say people wanting fewer children have a combination of reasons for that, possibly including financial.
jerrre··on This guy started working on his startup by “scratching his own itch”
Cool! I'm not aware what else is available in this space, what I think would be useful would be to add links to the organizations where I should apply, what's the process etc.

Also I could imagine a visualization of a map for countries of a specific country as to where they can travel with/without visa etc.

jerrre··on Ask HN: How do you scale salary for part-time work?
Who says they will rest in the downtime?
